      Do not make a mistake of thinking an erudite and a learned person is morally upright. The very reason our constitution did not keep any educational qualification bar for people to be elected as people's representatives.
      If he wants to be someone at top he has to work for it, and in Tharoor's case I feel he is happy with what he has.

But you dont need to be an Oxford graduate to be the leader of a country. Academic excellence doesn't imply moral righteousness.

I vehemently supported Modi in 2014, and supported him in 2019, and will support him in the next election too. If Amit shah succeeds Sri Modi, then I will support Amit Shah. I am not a Hindu either, but unlike YOU mr P MASTER, I am not a POLITICAL SLAVE, and I can see the things through. India is slowly getting in to the right track, which had drifted and been drifting since last 60 years. I am from Kerala state, the only state in India where BJP is continuously failing even to win a single seat.

      Mathew Scaria- you are too innocent. I believe you are from Kerala, where I am from too. This guy Sasi is just an avid reader, and nothing more. He is neither intelligent nor an efficient. You know why he won in Kerala, he knew the psychology of Indians, especially Keralite's . Somebody speak English is revered and respected like some supreme person in Kerala. He got looks, English fluency, fair colour. He effectively sold these trivial things to Kerala, and the gullible like you bought his pseudo products. He is an MP in Trivandrum since last 10 years, and what has he done there? How many days he has lived in there? He is in his constituency at the time of election, and during these 10 years he has written 10 books. Yes, that is his achievement.

    The sharpest repartee by an Indian politician was by Krishna Menon (Defense Minister) during his speech to the UN during the Indo-Pak conflict. The permanent representative of Canada, Lester Pearson, interrupted Menon & mockingly tried to correct his English amidst giggles & suppressed laughter from some of the British & other English speaking delegates. Menon without missing a beat shot back, "I Sir learnt English, you picked it up." there was absolute silence in the security council & without any further interruptions from these wiseacres.

      I seem to recall this repartee was actually a response to a compliment (albeit a condescending one - surprise at the high quality of Mr. Menon's English), and not a retort to an insult. But yes, an excellent response to a patronising comment on his English.

Mr. Tharoor is one such person.He is nothing nothing nothing compared to Christopher Hitchens in terms of knowledge and argumentation, and yet he is not worshipped in the UK/US the way Mr. Tharoor is worshipped in India. It is not given this consideration that I welcome clowns and buffoons (which is what Mr. Tharoor is) under the umbrella slogan "Yes.. finally.. no longer just politicians from the Hindi belt in national politics". While I'm glad that our national leaders are diversifying, this does not mean we embrace types which happen to be radically 'different'. You always need tough leaders who first demand respect from and INSTILL fear inside others, that is other leaders inside the country and, especially, abroad. It is the effete urban types who love reading novels "from the Subcontinent" as well as young weak males who take to Mr. Tharoor.

      Sashi Tharoor is most respected of the MPs. His debates and lectures are highly educative. He wrote about 20.books, out of which the one on British rule in India is outstanding. He is an unique MP who knows how the opposition parliamentarians should behave, for these views he is not liked by his Congress leadership. How lovely our democracy would be if a large percentage of our MPs are like him.
