  • Here's the second part of the PolySix demonstration where I go through the motions with the filter in self oscillation, on board effects and arpeggiator.
I apologise that there is again a lot of talking, but it's mainly for the sake of letting you know how I'm getting the various sounds.
Next up I might just jam on it and record that. Hope you all enjoy this addition anyway. :)

Thanks for posting this! Very nice demo! At 3:30 onwards you mention that the Juno-6/60 doesn't have a mono feature, but it actually does. It's a bit more cumbersome to access but for those who may be interested here's how: Make sure the Arpeggio mode switch is set to "UP" and then turn on the Juno while holding down the Key Transpose button. This assigns all 6 voices to the last key pressed. ;-)

Thank you for a very fine demo. I particularly appreciate you demonstrating the effects section so thoroughly.

I meant for a typical "mono synth" sound.
The unison is a mono mode but it's a bit too bombastic for some applications. If you just want a smooth 1 oscillator per voice lead sound you can either play it in poly mode and try not to let notes overlap or you can use the "chord memory" function to force the PolySix to only play the last note.
In short I was demonstrating how to get a non-unison mono sound.

No problem, glad you found it informative!

One of the better demos on youtube by a long shot.
    Nice job.
Have any other early 80s synths to demo?

Just use the sawtooth waveform with appropriate settings on the filter envelope and you can get some great synth brass sounds.

So there is a MONO mode on the polysix. The POLY mode assigns one oscillator to each of the first 6 keys that are played at any one time. The MONO mode assigns ALL 6 oscillators to just the first key that is pressed.

At 2:55 to 3:30 or so this narrator is slightly incorrect with "NO MONO" feature. It does have MONO in the UNISON button (which is in between the CHORD MEMORY button and the POLY button). The poly feature plays 6 voices (which means when you press 6 keys or more at one time, the instrument will automatically play only the first 6 keys that are pressed. In UNISON mode, all 6 oscillators will play only the FIRST key that is pressed but ALL 6 oscillators will play that one note.

This feature is for those who want to create a fat solo sound when playing only one note at a time (like the synth solo during "JUMP" by Van Halen [which was recorded on an Oberheim OB-X?????])

No plans to at the moment I am afraid, although I do now own a HD camcorder so never say never!

Thanks so much for this video. I've played a PolySix for 17 years now and it's great for string sounds, as you say. I've never been able to set up a decent brass sound on the PolySix though, any ideas ?

Tell me about it! Not bad for a budget polysynth.
Check out my Logan String Melody video for some more stringer action. :)

Just to say that I came here to reply to a few comments and accidentally deleted them.
Sorry guys, they really should make CZcams more idiot-proof! :(
