    Thanks for a great Definitive Review, Dustin. I have both the Sigma 28-70 and now this G2 version. After comparing them, I can safely say that everything is better on the G2. The only real strength I can see for the Sigma is if you demand the absolute smallest. Sigma 28-70 will now be sold of. Congratulations Tamron!

    For those who think this lens does not go wide enough (first, think again but globally, then) the 17-28 f/2.8 will be the best complement. Resulting in a 17 to 75 mm focal range at f/2.8 all the way... for 1800 USD/Euro (or so).
    How about it ? Anyone fancy traveling back in time, when zoom lenses barely were "birthday lenses" with bottle bottoms as glass elements ? No, really ? OK, so let's be happy we have such exceptional pieces of gear !

    Hey Dustin - Another great video! Thanks for your review on this! I was waiting for this one. I had a question. As far as sharpness, detail and overall resolving power, how does this lens fair on the Sony A1. I noticed when I upgraded to the A1 and used the Tamron 28-75 v1, I found that my images especially in 75mm was noticeably less sharp than my g-master lenses. I’m curious did you see improvments overall when mounted to the Sony A1 and how does it compare to g-master lenses when you take into consideration sharpness, contrast, and resolution?

    Very good review! It looks like it's improved in several areas. I can see how people who are okay with 28mm- would spring for it, especially if the bokeh is a little better overall. I don't know what it is in euros but here in Sweden it is 290USD more expensive than the G1 version (I suspect the gap will be even wider this friday) (edit. the Black Friday, not this upcoming friday :) ). Some of the more high-end Tamrons have not been priced sympathetically here compared to elsewhere like the US while the lower end have been rather competitive. I don't know what to make of it. Well, good thoughtful review as always : )

    For Canon EOS R - Landscape photography on a tripod at 24mm. Does it make sense to buy RF 24-70 or RF 24-105 L F4? I know that RF 24-70 is sharper at the corners. Does it have better contrast and color rendition? Does it make sense to spend so much more money on RF 24-70 over RF 24-105 L F4 for landscape at 24mm at F8? Basically, my question is - how big is the difference at 24mm at F8? Will I be able to tell the difference on a processed landscape RAW file on 55 inch LG CX OLED? Thank you.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

      Hmmm, for your application I'd probably just go with the 24-105. I don't see the sense of buying an F2.8 lens (and spending the premium) if you don't actually have the need for the wider aperture.

Unfortunately, Capture One Pro have not released the lens profiles yet. They have only released profiles for the original RF lenses from 2018. I will wait until the summer (my next scuba diving vacation) and I was thinking of buying an Ikelite housing for Canon EOS R and getting the RF 14-35. However, those housings are huge and expensive. Hi Dustin, do you notice any noise coming from the lens when it is on your camera?
    I noticed some after attaching it to my a7R III. It's fairly mild, although I hear it when I'm up to the EVF. Focusing doesn't actually seem to make a difference really. It sounds like mild high pitched electronic noise, it seems to be less noticable in video which makes me think it is probably within spec. Just want to confirm there is nothing wrong with my copy. I'm a bit worried it might get picked up by internal or external microphones when recording, and besides that it just feels a lot less premium than I was expecting. I never heard any reviewers mention this before buying it.

    Which lens would you recommend for street photography and traveling, this Tamron or the Sigma 24-70? Price difference is only 90€. I guess that the Sigma has better build quality, but it`s 300g heavier... How do corner sharpness and esp. autofocus speed compare? Sure, the main difference is 24 vs 28mm, but that`s not very important for me.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 2 lety +3

      I'm not sure the Sigma actually has better build quality than the G2; it's quite nice and thoroughly weather sealed. The Tamron has the faster AF speed, though the Sigma is still very good. Less distortion on the G2 at 28mm vs 24mm on the Sigma, though if you zoom into 28mm the Sigma would be closer. I personally prefer the Tamron, but if you don't have another wide angle option, the Sigma might be the better choice due to that extra 4mm of width (which DOES make a difference)

    In Poland price difference is 378 USD. I have G1 and want to have more pleasant bokeh and faster / more accurate AF during quick action (4 years old child on f2.8). Dustin, do you think Sigma 28-70 can meet this requirement or rather should go with G2 (here it's over 2x more expensive than used G1).

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 2 lety +1

      I definitely like the G2 better than the Sigma, but my biggest reason for recommending it might be the focus speed because of what you have described. I don't think the Sigma would be any faster than your G1, but the G2 is definitely faster.

      What I would really point out (due to personal experience with other lenses) is the focus ring. This one is right on point. It's smooth, while giving you enough resistance for precise control. Definitely a lot better than, for example, Sony's 24-105 G which is very smooth but doesn't have any resistance to it.
      Being able to program linear/non-linear focus pulling is very nice, too.
      Once again a step in the right direction by Tamron.

    I'd like to ask you for some advice if possible. I recently bought a Sony A7 III for 1480€ brand new on a local store here in Spain, and I was thinking at first to buy the first version of this lenses as I found it for around 569€ (second handed). On the other hand, I found the G2 for 804€ (new).
