  • Review of Dewalt 4.5 gal 225 psi D55146 air compressor running a Husky 1/2 inch 800 ft/lbs impact wrench H4480. Although the impact wrench box recommends a 20 gal tank this 4.5 gal compressor was able to keep up with no issues.

    Tanks that can keep up with 1/2 inch impact wrenches achieve this either by being 20+ gallons in size with moderate pressure of 150-175 psi, or by using a small tank like this one with extremely high pressure 225 psi, which allows the tank to store more air in a small space. There are pros and cons of course.

      PTA Weston thanks. I’m going to look at adding an expansion tank. Hopefully that will give me the pros of a mobile compressor with some of the benefits of a larger tank.

      I now have an expansion tank. I’ve paint sprayed with my Dewalt compressor using it and it works well.

    I see many people use these but at the same time I see a lot in the garbage. Framers especially use this compressor but I have a Rolair wheelbarrow compressor.
    Not really a long life compressor when running on job sites.

    Is it quiet? Can it be used while in the verticle position?

      Pretty loud. I ended up buying a quiet small makita compressor to run things like nail guns, etc. No it needs to be flat when running. You can store it vertically.

      It’s worked well. I haven’t had any issues, but my usage has been relatively limited.

      @Giovanni_Litterini Před 3 lety +1

      yes open drain valve and run for 30min with open the basically the break-in for any compressor
