  • The Last Waltz, Europe '72, Folsom Prison, Allman Brothers at Fillmore East. Just a few of the many iconic live albums that quickly come to mind. But you won't find those on my list - as I tried to think a bit "outside the box" when I searched my collection for some fantastic live albums that sound amazing on vinyl.

The UFO double live album, Strangers In The Night is a fantastic live album. I bought this when it came out in 1979 and it still gets regular trips to the turntable. I'm not even that much of a fan of UFO but the performance has so much energy and it does include Doctor Doctor and Only You Can Rock Me in the track listing which are worth the price of admission on their own.

Oh, forgot Frampton Comes Alive. I was at those shows at Winterland when I was attending Cal Berkeley in the early 70s.

Ike an Tina's "what you hear is what you get.. live at Carnegie hall" is an amazing live album. Great energy and so many great tunes, including a few covers.

    Nice list
Live at the Greek is unreal. Similar to you we had tickets for a show that got canceled. I remember they premiered it on the radio the weekend before the official release.

Have to thank you for this one GI. I love live albums and am always looking to add them to my collection. I'd never heard of the Jimmy Page and Black Crowes collab before watching this a couple days ago. Stopped in the record shop today and there was Live at the Greek front and center in the new used bin! Mint. I snagged it and just finished all six sides straight through. Absolutely killer! Thank you! 🙌

Thanks for the heads up on that Hendrix in Maui. Most of my Hendrix vinyl sounds like crap but this one is great sounding and perhaps my best sounding live album in my collection now. You can tell a lot of love went into this. It even comes with premium record sleeves which are stored in individual cardboard sleeves for each record.

Yes! It’s a fantastic set. I don’t even own a blu-Ray player, but I borrowed one just to watch the included documentary. Really fun watch! Amazing they got any sound at all from that show considering how windy it was on the side of that volcano in Maui

There are SO many live albums that should have been on your list; Frampton Comes Alive; Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East; Skinards Album One More From the Road; Kansas Two for the Show Bob Segers Live Bullet Tom Petty Live Album. Sorry but I can’t believe you didn’t mention any of these. These are just a few off the top of my head. I know that peoples taste varies but to not include ANY of these is like saying my top ten guitar players of all time and leaving off Carlos Santana or Joe Walsh.

It’s been a while since I filmed this one, but I believe I mention up front that I was purposely avoiding very obvious iconic live albums (pretty sure I named Fillmore East, The Last Waltz, and Frampton Comes Alive as examples)
All those you named are fantastic of course! Own em all. I was just trying to chose some that some people may have never heard.
Either way thanks for the feedback and for watching!

I absolutely enjoy your channel and it’s obvious you put a lot of time and effort in to the videos. I think it was the title that was maybe a little unintentionally misleading maybe you should have said here are 10
live albums that might have flown under the radar when they were released but I think you might want to consider listening too. Look forward to future videos stay safe

Where the Light Is, pretty good pressing for sure! In terms of U2 Elevation I don't think it is worth the hassle to buy the box set just to get that LP. I listened to quite a bit of recordings from that tour and found there were way better performances than the Boston one. At least when they released the Slane Castle performance later on that year it was much better.

Scorpions -Tokyo Tapes 1978. They didn't have any "hits" back then, but listen to "all night long" and " kojo no tsuki / Robot Man". Worldwide Live is good, but Tokyo Tapes makes it look bad in comparison

    • @NTXVinyl

They can be hit or miss quality wise. But sometimes nice to fill a hole in your collection if a legit copy is impossible to find, too expensive, or simply has never been pressed
