TODAY's FEATURED ARTIST is 14 year-old Anna Shirin, a talented young lady from Berlin, Germany. She attended an English-German bilingual school and her interests are acting, singing and dancing. She has been involved in movie and TV work since she was a little kid. She plays a bit of ukulele and guitar and composes songs. This is one of them!
THE SONG - "Heroes" is not only one of Anna's original compositions, it was used in the movie 'Invisible Sue'. Anna had a major co-starring role as the "nerdy" girl Kaya 'App' Wells in the movie. She auditioned for the part in 2016 going through four or five rigorous audition rounds before landing it.'Invisible Sue' was on the festival circuit in many countries and is due for theatrical release in Germany this month and eventually international release so keep an eye out for it.
Rosanna did her usual thing and got in touch with Anna, Sina and Mike. This is what Anna told her about "Heroes" - "I had the first idea for this song back in 2017 but finished it in the beginning of 2018. I sent [two songs] to the director and asked if maybe one of them could be included in the movie. He liked the idea and said, that he wanted to have "Heroes“. We then looked for someone to produce the song. We knew a music producer called "Sash - The Deltahorse“, because I did the backing vocals for one of his songs "Balcony TV“ when I was around 10 years-old. His version of "Heroes“ is more electro beat and is played during the credits of the movie "Invisible Sue“. The film version is officially called "Heroes - Deltahorse Remix“.
"I didn’t like the sax, the computer drums and some other stuff of the film version so We turned to Sina and Mike for help and they replaced the programed drums with Sina‘s, removed some electronic stuff and added the hard classic guitar parts. The final result is officially named "Heroes - Classic Remix“, but we call it just "Heroes“, because the film version will never be used outside the film."
What we are watching here is the "Sina channel version". Mike told Rosanna, "This mix is more aggressive than the mix for the official release. Guitars are a lot louder, vocals a little lower. So it sounds a bit more 'Rock'. I removed 95% of the original movie version's sounds and replaced with real drums and the Rock guitars you hear. I did all the guitars and the regular bass guitar. I also came up with the guitar riff which is a counterpart melody to the vocals in the chorus (heroes of a new generation). That's not in the original."
Rosanna asked Sina how she approached the more aggressive rock drum part - "I took some elements of the original techno-style programmed version and added parts that a real drummer would do. We tried to make it sound more like rock and the guitar riffs certainly helped there! Before I recorded my drum part, my dad and I were sitting in our studio and thought about what might fit this song. For example, I think the double bass drum part suits the 'runaway' vocals pretty well. Then we recorded what we'd decided."

Thanks, Juliet and Ro -- this answers some of the questions I raised in my Patreon comment. Do you know if there has been any discussion of releasing this song on the streaming services, and if so, which version? It sounds like there are at least three possibilities, but you said the movie version would not be distributed beyond the movie itself. That would leave this version and the one on Anna's channel, right? Of course I haven't heard that one yet but I'm hoping it's Sina's mix that goes viral :-)

Not sure what direction your drumming will ever take you but I do know this for sure. You could easily be a session drummer anywhere in the World! Rocking beat with some sweet double kicks Sina! I've wondered about this myself for sometime. Others have said some people hit thumbs down by accident, others say trolls, some say jealous drummers, and there are some people who hate anything different from the original. I would like to add playback quality. Last night I played this song to a couple of barely preteens on my TV at low volume and they made faces. I later cranked up the Bose and they loved it. I have to admit that in sounded pretty bad thru tv speakers.

Haven't heard the original song so I can only comment on this one, I think sina is a drumming genius..the drums put so much depth and emotion to this ,simply amazing what sina did to bring that out ..
Mike Wasko This is the original song. The only difference from the movie version is, that Sina and Mike replaced the synthetic drum and guitar, which makes the song sound SO MUCH better!
