With no rehearsal or sheet music, this girl plays wipeout for a school concert with only two weeks notice and no rehearsals, save one with a few orchestra members.
Being a professional drummer(20 years, numerous performances) I loved this video. I remember my early gigs, it all starts somewhere. Keep it up kids, your on the right track.
As she gets older & her confidence grows she will crush that kit into ablivion. Cant wait for future videos of her covering bands or on her own doing originals! Nice work kid!
She played that tom better than many I have seen and a lot nearer to the original recording. There are not many that gets it right and she nailed it, well done.
…Look. NOT to take ANYTHING AWAY from her..BUT, I think your commenet about “playing it like the original recording” or close to that, is a HUGE stretch. She has a START at “possibly” being a drummer..someday. Just being REAL. And yes, I’m a drummer..or was til I injured my back (Now our daughter has my Tama kit)
I am 71. I could never as a teen get the beat of wipeout done correctly. She was amazing. As far as the school band goes, give them a break, they did a good job also. It hard at that young age to sit in front of a crowd and play music that they have not rehearsed.
Man, that concert sounded like the Hooterville band on "Green Aches" until that, little girl, started to smash those drums. Gal, you go, you got the beat! You did GREAT!!!
Not sure i have ever seen anyone so scared to death and actually pull off what they were asked to do. Pretty remarkable. Easily one of the most amazing feats of all time. And I am not $%^ when I say this.
Having to sit through years of band and strings you find there are some truly talented individuals in this world. This girl my dear is one of them! Cheers Terry
how could anybody ever give this Video a thumbs down ? People don't realize how important music is in young peoples lives . Or how hard it is or the amount of practice it takes to play ANY instrument well .
My thumbs down is for that awful music teacher who basically tears his own students apart . He should be empowering them- not making fun of their ability. Then he sets the tempo at half drunk. What a dipshit! Kudos to the kids! I’m sorry they have To Put up with that passive/ aggressive abuse from their own teacher. !
The experience of group performance has many lessons. Sometimes the result is skilled, sometimes a demonstration of persistence. Good on the music teacher for letting them try a complicated piece in place of Jingle Bells.
Awesome! I remember going to concerts when my daughter started playing her clarinet. EVERY performance was ART in my heart 😊❤️oh how i miss those days, her clarinet is still locked in its case in bedroom closet. Shes 31 now. Lol. Im proud of these kids. And the parents and especially the music teachers. 😊🥁🎼🎹🎷🎻🎺🎸
This was posted 10 years ago. That would make her a Sophomore in college now? Would you be able to post an update? I’d love to see if she is still playing. Her time and groove were solid, and the accents on the tom solos were spot on! Would love to see what she’s up to now!! Hopefully still rocking!! 😀
I did this in 4th grade also. Wow she has 6.7 million views too. I'm 43 years old now. Gotta love youtube. I hope she keeps playing & nobody steals her dreams. She has the talent already to move on. The sky is the limit & I hope she keeps reaching!!!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Way to go girl! Brought a smile to my face. Didn't overplay and followed the conductor. Back in the day any drummer worth their salt played 'Wipeout'. Great piece to learn playing accented sixteenth notes. Good job!
This will be a moment not only for her but her parents as well to look back on one day and its a treasure look back on..sometimes we have to look back to see where we are going and i see that if she keeps going with this talent then she is right where she needs to be..Good job young lady and stay with it you sounded great
Bless her. She is so nervous. I remember when I had to play in front of my high school when the band Blaze hired me on a Wednesday and we played my homecoming dance the following Saturday nightwhen I was a junior in high school. I was scared to death the first 2 songs but I was better at playing guitar than I was a dancer so it turned out great. She needs to play a set to get over the stag freight and she will have a great time. She was very brave for doing this. I had an awesome band to blend in with and she was in the spot light. Kudos to the little angel!
Who was the brain-dead moron who thought brass was a suitable accompimant to Wipeout. She's good, the band was nothing but bloody painful! Give her time and practice, she'll be great.
Ronnie Baker ** i did not see stage fright. What i saw was "" lets get this going"" Also its very odd to start out with out the drums first because its the drums that set the pace. This is the most unrecognizable rendition of Wipeout that I have ever heard, bar none !!! I would be humiliatedly ashame to have recorded this and put on CZcams for the world to see and hear.
Bravo. Young lady was absolutely precious. I hope her star shines bright. I remember those days of my kids playing their first recitals. Daughter on drums and son on guitar played Johnny B. Goode. Nobody wanted to play 16th century dead people music after.
she kept it together with a flailing concert band.I can tell she was ready to bust loose and kill it but the rest of the band just faded on their job.still..she held it together.thats called being a pro
I've been to MANY of these school programs! My parents sat through many as well. It can be very hard to listen to the ear splitting high pitched "squeeks" when adults in the communities support the children of the community by showing up, taking time to sit and be there, it encourages, lifts up, and let's the children know that their community supports them. It's one of the best uses of positive reinforcement there can be!
My kids’ music teacher in primary school had every kid playing something. The concerts were a mix of talent and persistence. Mrs Martin encouraged the kids by performing interesting pieces, with whatever instrument she was learning. Competed at Grade 3 level in cello at a national eisteddfod. Her occasional squeaks let the kids know that performance doesn’t have to be flawless to be meaningful.
So awesome to hear friends and family cheer her on that's what children need for God sakes let children be children. You did a fantastic job on Wipeout that is a difficult song on the drums. Not many people get it right you nailed it. God bless you your family and the rest of the musicians in the band music is a great great investment in your life.
cutest thing ive seen in a while! she's petrified but does a great job on an old standard for drummers. the world needs more girl drummers in my opinion
Look at her face at 1:50. The count is "One, two, three, four, GO." She's wondering what he did with the down beat. What a sweetie. I would have been rolling my eyes at that age. She'll go far in this world.
Geddy and Alex may have an extra drum kit somewhere for this young lady. I'm sure they know a retired drummer who might give her some tips. Great video!
she did really well. Just the fact that she played that solo and did not speed up was very impressive. natural tendency would be to speed up because the song was such a slow pace.
She's got it. I hope that she gets a lot of support and encouragement from her family and friends and continues drumming. When I was a lad back in grade school in the 1960's, my buddies and I thought Wipeout was the coolest tune ever and we would play it with out hands on our book cases we had to carry to and from school.

Dang do you usually only talk about you?
Go back to school flunky.
@@alpachino7663 do you like to make comments just to feel better bout yourself?
I agree, they showed up and did the hard thing, and the drummer kicked them all up a notch with her solo.
@@christiandavis2916 the drummer sucked! They all sucked!!🤮
She certainly looked held back and the look on her face was a definite sign she wanted to rip into it at normal pace. Bravo.
But she didn't know how
@@richardbertrand3217 She knew how but she didn't want to show up the band.
10 years later, I hope she kept at it and is in a band of her own. She is top drawer.
Any kid who takes on an instrument is a Class Act and deserves all the appreciation for contributing to the live music experience ❤️
I'm old enough to remember Wipeout......and she is just a doll. On her way to being a great drummer.
That's not quite how I remember it, but they are youngsters. I'll cut some slack. They need to play it faster! Maybe next year.
I remember Wipe Out to good old surf music
The next Maureen Tucker, or Honey Lantree!

hope she gets positive reinforcement and does not get led into BAD Habits when she gets older
Who got this recommended to them in December 2019?!
YUP ....
I know like wtf
And The fact that I watched the whole thing just makes me question my own sanity...
Yo
She looks similar to greta thunberg.
She played that tom better than many I have seen and a lot nearer to the original recording. There are not many that gets it right and she nailed it, well done.
Indeed... if I'd heard nothing else but the tom-tom I'd have recognised Wipeout ... she nailed it 🙂

Right
I hope she sees this video and updates us on what she's doing now. I sure hope she's still playing the drums!
I love how influential this song is that young kids still learn it on the drums, make me so happy 😊 🎸🥁🎶🏄
She sounds so good that she almost makes me forget how bad the “orchestra” sounds! It’s a shame she doesn’t have better accompaniment. She’s great.
Yeah, but they were beginner band students, most likely, so we shouldn't expect a world-class performance from them just yet.
They are fourth graders! What are you expecting, the Boston Symphony orchestra?
She's definitely better than average.Keep playing kid and you'll get where you want to be.
I don't think that anyone is hating on the kids. I know that I couldn't do better myself.
@@robertdees2150 she said it's a shame the drummer didn't have better accompaniment. Sounds kind of hateful to me. I mean they are fourth graders.

I'm convinced this little girl's biggest challenge was playing "Wipeout" at such a slow speed. She should be praised and honored for not yawning.

You are right but It's hard to be aggressive when you're having to play the song at half the tempo to accommodate the orchestra. She'll do fine.
