Another example is when Guts didn't have his sword during the war, Zodd himself throws his own sword to front of Guts to save his life that he will later be sacrificed in eclipse. Zodd is all about the thrill of the battle and show of strength, what I would like to imagine happening is that a God Hand emerges and surrounds himself with a bunch of apostles…this just denies him any thrill of battle, war is just TOO easy now for them. In his own way Zodd is still stuck on Guts, a mortal, a human with (as far as we know) no destiny chosen from the GH besides to be a worthy sacrifice gave him one of the best battles he’s has in his life. Since then he’s saved his life when something like bad luck cracked his sword finally (he gave him a fair chance, Guts still could’ve died even when a sword but he won) then to survive the Eclipse and continue to fight on. Killing multiple apostles and then giving him another fight at HOS where, to be honest…no winner was deducted, it was a draw until Griffith touched Casca. Then to top it all off, Guts climbed on his back, held his sword to his throat and they destroyed an insanely powerful being together.
You look at his warrior mentality and take into account that Griffith is using his strength for narcissism and political control, that the wars they fight are barely even warm ups for them, and that ontop of that Griffith has a vulnerability that makes him a child unable to fend for himself once a month.
I won’t be surprised if Zodd says peace and goes to join Guts even if it’s just to help a struggler and experience the best and most important battle of fate

  • @PabloHF
    @PabloHF Před rokem +371

I think Zodd will help Casca escape and sacrifice himself for Guts.
He seems to always had valued strength and decided to serve Griffith not because he liked him or his ideas, but because Griffith was stronger than him. But I feel like Zodd is conflicted with his definition of strength and whether Griffith is actually worthy of being considered strong because Guts is still human and is kicking the ass of everything along the way, even Zodd's and other super strong apostles - and that should be impossible for a human. So I feel like Zodd thinks Griffith "cheated", in the sense that he's only powerful because he became an Apostle, not because he is/was inherently strong like Guts is. And I believe there's a chapter where Sonia claims that Zodd is divided in his allegiance.

I would love to see it, Guts and Zodd have a certain respect for eachother as true warriors do as we also saw in their awesome teamup against Ganishka. Since the battle of Doldrey and their first fight he always spectated Guts being a warrior. He even threw him a sword when Guts was in danger and he was also amazed by the capabilities Guts had, which made Zodd in his final apostle form. Throughout the story he saw what Guts went through, but Guts always fought his way through and I feel like the legendary swordsman Zodd himself would help Guts because of the level of respect they have as warriors. Also, we still don't know how Zodd became an apostle, a legendary warrior with hundreds of years of killing of endlessly killing- it seems like Zodd is similar to what Guts would've become if he'd be overwhelmed by his rage.

I think her lacking an inner monologue is completely intentional. She isn’t thinking much of ANYTHING. However, she does FEEL things. That is the point. She is back into a coma esc state. This time however it is forcefully induced. When she is reminded of Elfhelm due to the water in the bath for instance, she suddenly “awakens” mentally, and that is when we get some dialogue out of her. The spell partially breaks a bit and either Irvine or Griffith has to place her back into the bed and coma-esc state.
That or it is a bit of both and a happy accident for the writers if this was Miuras intention.
Also the manner in which themes are continuing to repeat, i.e. the ripples, causality, etc, but with slight differences, makes me confident in the story and that Miuras vision is indeed coming full circle.

@@DrakusLuthos There's a scene from the Gulliver's Travels movie (not sure if it's also in the book) where Gulliver is staying in some guy's palace. Every day is set up exactly the same and his memory is sort of reset every morning. He starts to get suspicious that this is happening, so he starts making small cuts on his hand each day to track the time. Eventually, the cuts accumulate enough that he fully realizes what's happening and breaks out of the cycle. That's what Casca's situation reminds me of. I obviously don't know how similar her situation is, but the way she keeps waking up in her bed without clearly remembering recent events gives me that feeling.

Then again, I don't remember her bleeding while Griffith was carrying her. Maybe he has the power to suppress her curse in some way. It would be very interested to see how Casca will interact with Griffith while she's fully lucid. It's hard to know how much of the eclipse she's been able to remember and overcome. That one final "mind break" moment she had on the island could have final broken her through her problem where she freaks out seeing things that remind her of the eclipse. Who knows.
Now that she's seen the moonlight boy transform into Griffith, I'm wondering how she'll feel the next time she sees him. If she's lucid, it could cause her a lot of conflicting emotions. I wonder if the way to defeat Griffith will involve driving his presence out of the moonlight boy, since he's basically possessing him. Or, maybe the moonlight boy will take over fully somehow.

I love the idea of this complicated relation between Casca and Griffith being handled both exactly and yet unlike how one would expect knowing the story like you mentioned.
Like Griffith very easily could have locked her away with nothing and barely kept her alive, but the route he took instead of keeping her well taken care of suggests either he himself has a weakness for her still or the Moonlight boy is privy to overpowering him psychologically now that he has his mother close by.
I also like what you mentioned about how Griffith very easily could've used and abused Casca for his own sick gain since we didn't know why the hell he was interested in kidnapping her, but there's also his relationship to his queen to be in Charlotte, which reinforces this idea that having his own kingdom still matter above all else for him. Keeping up appearances, even with the privacy he has is fundamental to him.

I think it would be pretty poetic if Sonia and Casca teamed up. After all, Sonia's role right now is pretty similar to Casca's in the Golden Age. She's a young powerful woman who worships Griffith like a god, yet is blind to how she's being manipulated. I wonder, depending on how deep Sonia looks into Casca's memories, if she'll pick up on this similarity too. If she'll see how Casca used to be, the most loyal person to Griffith, and be shocked that it was this loyal follower who Griffith betrayed and violated. Maybe Sonia will realize that, if Griffith could do that to Casca, then what's to stop him from betraying Sonia.

I'll have an hype attack if, when we see Schierke arriving or exploring Falconia, we see Sonia, accompanied by Luca with her girls, Mule, Jerome, Jill and Theresia (It's about time we get to see those last 3 characters being reintroduced in the story) executing the same kind of plan Guts, Casca, Judeau and Pippin had in Golden Age, infiltrating an highly safe place to rescue someone on a hellish condition, but in the Golden Age's case, It would be Griffith being tortured at the Tower of Rebirth, while now it would be Casca in her induced coma on the part of Falconia she's being kept, which I think it'll lead to Sonia accidentally removing Casca's Anathema and making her and all of Falconia receiving the memories of the Eclipse, therefore, taking out permanently the mind-wapping energy that Griffith and the GodHand put in the nation!
P.S: Or maybe I'm being too hopeful because everything alludes to Sonia doing the brainwashing on Casca's mind!

Griffith has always been known as the hawk/falcon, and I remember Sonia referring to herself and other characters as different types of birds when she was telling her story to Schierke, (I think Sonia was a duck or a goose, and Schierke was an owl?), so it seems like birds are often used in a symbolic way throughout the story. Using a code name like "the bird" for Casca once she is in Falconia feels like a subtle way to show how she is now under Griffith's domain, she's being integrated into his kingdom, his plans, etc. It also makes sense in terms of her being a prisoner, aka a bird in a cage.

Really love the idea of the Sonia betrayal seed your sewing here, perfect scenario for her to have the veil lifted on Griffiths' true nature and a great way to facilitate her delving into Cascas mind, not by choice, but by order of Griffith to keep her numb/ subservient, therein creating a true sense of moral dilemma to her own person and then questioning the motives behind the imprisonment of Casca and her true connection to Griffith .
Also intrigued by the purposeful panelling showing Zodd off to the side. Often in the past, we have seen Zodd off to the side/ on his own in deep thought. Perhaps it could be something as simple as Zodd cares not for military planning/ tactics that Griffith is scheming and rather only presents himself when needed. But then why show him in this pannel at all? Clearly this is intentional. On the rare occasion when he does appear with dialogue in his human form its saved for the lead up to significant events. Prime example of tying Sonia and Zodd in together is the harkening back to when she approached Zodd and told him he will have to make a choice to align himself with and work together with Guts in order to take down Ganishghas' cloud form in the battle at the docks of Virtannis.
Griffiths vile act from the eclipse, I believe will be the hinge pin to his ultimate weakness and downfall in having ties to the child. And in doing so in order to maintain control over that turn away the falcons two greatest assets in Zodd and Sonia.
Perhaps we could see another team up for a greater foe.

    Casca being imprisoned by Griffith to act as security for his weakness, the moonlight boy, makes me wonder how it will tie into and/or impact the issue of her thorned heart from the corridor of dreams;
Because her last memory fragment before awakening from being Elaine was the demon child many fans theorised that what would heal her broken psyche is the presence of a child and the expression of maternal love.
Casca has always been maternal - keeping Guts warm by sharing body heat, fiercely protecting her loved ones, clashing with those that put them in danger, being strong but not unbelievably or unreasonably so, and carrying the responsibility of others when there's a lack of leadership or patriarchy (during Guts pilgrimage of strength and Griffiths torture), to name a few corresponding aspects of her personality.
Yet these are all things ripped away from her by Griffith, so for her to imprisoned to take care of the moonlight boy raises the question of what her reaction will be to both this new and imposed caretaking she has been forced into. Will she shut down like when seeing Guts? Will she reject it and face consequences from Griffith or within her own mind? Will she accept this new life? Will she contend and struggle against this forced destiny like Guts?
What I do know is that Casca is undergoing a completely different form of abuse than she usually does (R), and it is one that is much more complex and nuanced; rather than being an act of violence and exploitation, it is the unintended repercussions of such acts. So, seeing how she reacts, copes, and rehabilitates will be incredibly interesting for both her character and the entirety of Berserks story.
I always thought that Isidro would be the one to help heal the curse of her thorned heart; he's stubborn and strong willed like Guts, and like Casca is quick-tempered but is reliable under the right circumstances, to name a few similarities. I theorised he would act as a bridge between Casca and Guts (as she can't look at or listen to him) and help in hers as well as Guts struggle with trauma and loss.
This new twist will give us a lot more insight into present Casca and Griffith, so in any way I can barely contain my excitement for the new direction the story is going in and can't wait to see how Mori will take us on this journey!

I think your predictions on Caska are pretty spot on, I would add that this may also have the unintended consequence of helping Caska heal from her trauma. Having her memories of the Eclipse come in a slow drip, rather than a torrent, may allow her to come to terms with what happened to her, and allow her to finally be with Guts.
I don't think this is Griffith's intention, he's just doing it to maintain control, but I do think this will be the result.

Berserk is back!!! Cover art was fantastic. Great chapter overall. So happy to see Casca again but also so upset that she's trapped in Falconia physically, mentally, and emotionally. However, she has glimpses of Guts and our squad so I'm hopeful for her. She knows she needs to get back to Guts asap but I don't know how that'll happen.
I'm just so appreciative for every chapter we get no matter the wait. Thank you Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga.

I was curious whether or not Sonia or Charlotte would show up in this chapter, but perhaps their awaited encounter is too soon. Some speculate that Sonia could be the one manipulating Casca's memories, but we may see the answer next chapter. Since Griffith is going east, perhaps that could be the day Casca breaks free from her trance and escape. Luca is in Falconia, I would love to see the two reunite. I only hope she won't be a damsel in distress again or assaulted by Griffith.

I wouldn't be surprised If the anathema on Casca's heart was there from preventing her on turning into an pseudo-apostle, and also, If she gets back into action, Casca might ends up becoming an spitting image of Guts during the Apostle Hunt Season days, inhuman, unpredictable, savage, very dangerous and out of control due to the traumas of the Eclipse and her time as Elaine!

Casca's predicament symbolizes both Guts' and Griffith's wills inside her. Notice....and I could be waaaaay off.......but look at the panel where she attacks the soldiers. Notice her hair around her eye in the top left. Looks similar to the Beast of Darkness' teeth when Guts envisioned them biting down or closing upon the image of Griffith.....

To the east is Silat’s ‘indomitable’ home land, where Rickert’s new group were headed.

  • @ghostoftheoldworld5104

I thought it was pretty funny that the bed was in the middle of the room. The whole chapter felt like a dream. Also, Irvine and Zodd chilling in the background. The art is getting better, I understand that the dialogue is the most difficult thing. I think "the east" refers to the rest of the continent at the moment.
