He, almost singlehandedly, saved country music from the rock bottom, in the mid 80s. He started the rebuilding, then guys like Clint Black and Garth Brooks jumped in and enhanced the comeback. You've got a lot of listening to get the whole feel of Randy Travis. He, unfortunately, suffered a bad stroke, and was almost to the point of shutting off the life-support system, when he started to recover. As far as understanding what's going on around him, and understanding other people's speech, he has total grasp of. But, he isn't able to speak very well, so he doesn't speak in public very much. His wife is always by his side, to speak for him. Here is a quick, off-top-of-my-head list of songs:
-Forever and Ever, Amen - 1st hit
    -Deeper Than The Holler
    -Diggin' Up Bones
    -1982
    -A Better Class of Losers
    -Three Wooden Crosses - Grammy
    -No Hands
-If I Didn't Have You - My favorite

Great selection! Randy was at the top of the charts pretty much constantly back then. In those days you couldn't go into a bar or pub anywhere in North America without hearing (and dancing to) "Forever and Ever Amen". He even delved into acting and was pretty good at that as well. Thank you!

"Forever and Ever, Amen" is my all-time favorite of his---wait 'til you hear how low his voice can go, with this one!
Another really great one of his, is "Three Wooden Crosses"---it's such a great story; you gotta pay attention, though, cuz it's a little tricky!

Randy and George Strait SAVED country music from going down the toilet, by bringing back the classic country sound. He is ROYALTY in country music. Such a sweet, gentle man. We were all, and still are, heartbroken over the stroke that took his voice from him

  • @rowaineboyd1536
    @rowaineboyd1536 Před 2 lety +13

Absolutely LOVE this man! And this song is one of my favorites of his - he did it as a duet with Carrie Underwood a few years ago that's just as good. You'll be listening to hundreds of suggestions, but honestly, you just can't go wrong with any of his music. Three Wooden Crosses is one of the biggies, and I do encourage you to listen to it, but bring hankies! Forever and Ever, Amen is heart-warming. A Better Class of Losers is funny as hell IMO. With this superstar (and George Strait, Garth Brooks, and Brooks and Dunn), you could close your eyes and throw a dart to pick a song and *never* be disappointed. Great reaction, hun, loving your C&W journey! Oh, almost missed my second favorite -- He Walked on Water -- a tribute to his grandfather. Amazing voice and songwriting, the best of both worlds!

Randy Travis is a National Treasure and such a genuinely nice, polite man. He’s had his demons, but haven’t we all?
For his 25th Anniversary CD & TV special he did a song w Don Henley called ‘More Time’. Only a few mths after performing it, he had the debilitating stroke. While it guts me every time, such a beautiful and important song.
And yup… sometimes I chase my husband around the house playing it😉😆
You really should check that one out and then his vocals on Its Just A Matter of Time are RIDICULOUS!!!
    Stay safe & love much💖

Listen to him singing “ three wooden crosses” it’s amazing!! He sang this with Carrie Underwood as a duet! He’s had a lot of hits and it’s an amazing gospel singer! Nice Reaction!!

Great choice with Randy Travis! So many great songs to go down the rabbit hole with... Forever And Ever Amen, He Walked On Water, Deeper Than the Holler, Diggin Up Bones, On The Other Hand, etc.

Love, love Randy. So many favorites from him but maybe the most moving for me is “Raise Him Up”. I love when I’m surprised by the lyrics in a song.

After tackling his drinking, he had a massive stroke. His idol was George Jones.
