    Another great review. Good comparison of the PD to other discs. I find the Anax much easier to throw than PDs.

      Yeah, I had never thrown an Anax before! I think there are all kinds of Anax's out there, I have heard of people that have them that flip, and on the other hand there are ones that are like a PD for Paul and can handle his power!

    I remember someone saying online that the Invictus is really just a PD. I have them both and they look significantly different from each other, and don't feel the same, so I suspect they fly differently, too. I can't throw them at the speed and distance to test that, but I'm glad you made this video to test that out (among the other discs, too). I have one in Star plastic, and one in Gstar that's supposed to be less stable. I think that's probably the one to get if you want distance with the Invictus, but the PD looks and feels like it'll be more stable. I say that because it's got a flatter top (S-Line PD vs Invictus Star) and the Gstar Invictus has an even more curved dome that pushes the parting line down even further. Not only that but the PD has a sharper edge, and more curved upper _and_ lower rim profile. Even their wing length (rim thickness) is different. The Invictus is noticeably faster, as you note.

    • @ApolloDiscGolf
      @ApolloDiscGolf  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, I would agree! I think there are some pretty overstable invictus’s out there, I just didn’t get one of them! And this was the only one I have ever thrown

  • @TeaParty4Thugs

      Yeah, I was surprised! I was totally expecting to get a beef cake!

  • @TMRaven
    @TMRaven Před 2 lety +5

    The Anax actually has an ever so slightly smaller rim than the Thunderbird. I averaged the rim measurements of both an ESP and BigZ Anax and got 18.87mm, then I took the average of a Champion and Champion Color Glow Thunderbird and got 19.13mm.
    The Anax's nose is slightly sharper than the Thunderbird though, which means it should be a little more aerodynamic with less sharp hookup at the end of its, while the Thunderbird should have a sharper hookup at the end of its flight. I prefer the slightly more blunted nose of the Thunderbird, as it feels a little more comfortable in my hand, and I'm not looking for distance driver qualities to my OS control driver.
    I've come across Anaxes that flip very easily into a headwind, and some Thunderbirds that are nearly as OS as Firebirds, so yeah I do agree that runs/plastic are inconsistent with those discs.

    • @BryceRogers_
      @BryceRogers_ Před 2 lety

      I have this rainbow champion thunderbird, and I swear it’s the most overstable disc I own besides the Axiom Fireball

    • @ApolloDiscGolf
      @ApolloDiscGolf  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, the Anax is a very interesting disc! Like it has OS characteristics to the shape while also having US characteristics... I had never thrown one before this! definitely holds its speed and is faster than the Thunderbird, but I agree, you can find some beefy Thunderbirds!

    • @ApolloDiscGolf

    • @ApolloDiscGolf
      @ApolloDiscGolf  Před 2 lety

      @@parpalsdiscgolf96 This is true... If you are wanting something like your Invictus, then yes, a PD won't really compare... You are better off grabbing another Invictus that was similar. But if you are wanting something that is more overstable than an Invictus and want to try something new to put in that slot, then the PD is worth a try!

    • @ApolloDiscGolf
      @ApolloDiscGolf  Před rokem +1

      It’s been a long time since I have thrown a star fire! I think those are just a little less stable on average than the PD! I think the original PD was a Firebird bottom with a star fire top though! I could be wrong, but I thought it was something like that!

  • @ForehandDiscReviews
    @ForehandDiscReviews Před 2 lety

    Just wondering is it worth having a raptor and an Anax in my bag if I only forehand? I seem to just get a better release from the raptor. My Anax is a pretty flat BigZ and I can see maybe if I want it to go straighter a little further and not dump as hard but I think as shown in this video the Anax being wider I seem less consistent with it vs my raptor.

    • @ApolloDiscGolf
      @ApolloDiscGolf  Před 2 lety +1

      I think they are different enough to bag them both! the Raptor would be shorter with a harder finish, and the Anax would be better to shape shots with and go a bit further than the Raptor! But yeah, the larger diameter might throw you off until you get use to it!

    • @ForehandDiscReviews
      @ForehandDiscReviews Před 2 lety

      @@ApolloDiscGolf thanks for the reply I was at first thinking like I can use my Anax over my force but then I just seem to throw my force better and further so I kinda go from raptor to force instead of having that third option of raptor, Anax, force

    • @ApolloDiscGolf
      @ApolloDiscGolf  Před 2 lety +1

      @@ForehandDiscReviews Yeah I can see that. The Force is definitely a longer Raptor. The Anax might be better for straighter shots that the Raptor and Force both hook up a little too much. especially when the Anax beats in a little more. But then again, you don't HAVE to bag the Anax if you don't feel like you need it! There is nothing saying you have to have the Anax in the bag if you can shred without it! I'm all about minimizing the bag!

    I have both Anax and new PD in the bag right now. I keep telling myself they are different enough in flight to justify it. But I might be living a lie. Think I should lose one of them?

    • @ApolloDiscGolf
      @ApolloDiscGolf  Před 2 lety

      It's up to you! Personally I think they just cover the same shot but the Anax I had was slightly less overstable than the PD. You could always keep them both in the bag then once the PD breaks in a bit you can drop the Anax then grab another PD and bag two of those, one beefy and one broken in... But there is no rule that says you can't bag both!
      Disc golf is a big mental game! So if it makes you feel better to have both in the bag then do it! lol
