Lightening (or removing dye) with Vitamin C and Shampoo

- Please do not leave this product on your hair for more than an hour (actually, I'd go so far to say to not leave it on for more than 45 minutes). I've noticed over the few times that I've used this method to lighten my hair that it works best with removing dyed hair and will only lift your natural hair by maybe half a level. I've also noticed that after the 45 minute mark that the Vitamin C no longer lifts/lightens your hair color. Do understand that Vitamin C can make your hair feel straw-like if you leave it on for too long, as well as make you feel sick, and even burn your scalp. Always err on the side of caution!!! If your scalp is burning at all during this process, WASH IT OUT. Thank you, all, for your love and support.
Vitamin C and Shampoo Recipe
Ingredients:
50-60 pills of 1000mg Vitamin C, mashed into powder.
9ish Tablespoons of clear shampoo (I used Prell but it's probably best to use a shampoo without dyes in it)
Mixing bowl
A spray bottle, filled with water
A plastic cap, or bag
Instructions:
Mix vitamin C and shampoo
If you feel the mixture is too thick, add another tablespoon of shampoo.
Apply to damp hair.
If mixture isn't spreading easily and/or you've run out of mixture, spray more water onto hair and continue to lather in.
Once hair is saturated with the mixture, cover with a plastic cap (or bag) and leave for 30-60 minutes.
Rinse out, wash with shampoo, and deep condition as this will make your hair dry.

Wonder if anyone has tried this with conditioner
I would like to know too! I'll pin it.
Yes, another video! Lol. I’ll look out for it.
It doesn't work, I just tried :(
Javiera Díaz thanks javiera but try the shampoo. It totally worked. I used a plain shampoo and the results were shocking.
yes i did!
Omg IT WORKEEEDDDD THANK YOUUUU!!!!!! I used head & shoulders mint and the red is completely gone I'm left with a gorgeous honey blonde I can't believe iiittt🤩
Yaaaaaay! That's great!
I wonder if it would work for mine nothing is taking this red out
May I ask what your natural colour was?
@@nazzzzz95 It's light brown!
@@YiotaTs Thank you for such a quick response! I am thinking about boing this but my natural hair is black and I am dying them red (without bleaching it) so I really don't know what the result is going to be!
This video helped me so much!! My hairdresser messed up and coloured my platinum blond hair dark purple because i said i want it more grayish and she missunderstood and dyied it so dark, there was no sign of blonde anymore and i came home and cried for hours, then i started searching in youtube what to do, at one point i wanted to bleach it, then after this video i decided to try this and IT TOTALLY WORKS! I used lemon, baking soda and clear shampoo, left it for about 70 minutes and it took out almost everything and now i am back to blonde and never been more happier about having blonde hair! Thanks for this helpful video 💇🏼
YAAAAYYYY! I'm so glad this helped you! I totally know the feels of having hair gone wrong, especially at the hands of a professional. What a relief to know that this works and so well!
Hey girl! I can not believe in what similar situation we are.. I was also very very blonde and I wanted it more ash toned and more dimension in it as well.. My hairdresser put in some low lights that would be very subtle and ash toned. When she started blow drying my hair the color came out very very wrong. The low lights are so dark (almost black) and the tone of it just doesn't look healthy and natural at all. It looked so chemical and almost metal like. It just wasn't right. I am trying these methods out as well. You just gave me so much hope that my hair is gonna be fine haha! I cried as well and I just felt so stupid that I was crying over a bunch of hair, but still it is MY hair and I just couldn't believe someone just messed it up like that.. I am so happy to hear that you could fix it! It gives me hope!
instead of lemon could I use lime?
P S how much lemon?
Romy S I
The color you ended up with is perfect for you and your skin tone! I could never get away with it. I hope you kept it.
Equate knockoff brand of Head and Shoulders mixed with vitamin C worked like a charm and lifted ALL the color in just 30 minutes, and I had INTENSE blue hair dye to remove.
Good to know! Thank you!
How much of the vitamin C did you mix?
Did you also damped your hair? Can I do this with dry hair?
@@sallybarraza1107 I did this same thing to get rid of my blue, it came out completely with doing this 3 times (my hair was dark navy blue demi permanent) after 3 times its completely out of my hair and back to blonde. And yes damp your hair! Make sure to condition well afterwards because it kinda drys your hair out
@@Shayranae thanks! I did it and it works! I only had to do it once, my hair was kind of blue/purple because I used an accent thinking it would work as a toner and it was crazy blue in 2 min, got in the shower like for an hour and I was getting very frustrated.. thanks for the help, I couldnt believe how amazing this is, I only had to applied it once and it was back to blonde, a little bit yellow but not blue 🤯 thanks!
this method is truly more effective than expensive hair colour removers!!
Thank you thank you @Ladee from your newest UK fan. I have been box dying my hair black for more years than I dare to remember, like many during lockdown I decided to give my hair a well earned rest and take the opportunity to grow the dye out as much as possible. 1 year later I am almost totally grey on top with black growing out. I tried your method today for the 1st time not expecting much. But wow! A lot of the black is now dark brown and I am going to do it a couple more times over the next week . I used my usual Tresemme shampoo about 6 big table spoons with 50 crushed vit c tablets and there was plenty left over - my hair is about your length - left on for 45 mins and can't believe the difference! Thanks again!
Thanks for this video. It has made me confident to try and remove the too dark dye from my hair. If it lifts to shade like it di for you, I will be ecstatic!
Thanks for this video! I touched up my ginger roots with a shade that was much too red. I made a diluted version of this recipe, about 6 vitamin c tabs blended up, mixed with a little hot water and about a half cup of clear shampoo. Let that sit on my head for around 35 minutes. It lifted most of the too red tones out of my hair. My hair isn't perfect now (although a LOT better!) but I didn't want to over-do it.
Your resulting color is Gorgeous! I'm thinking of trying this on my gray hair to try to 'brighten'. Thanks for the video tutorial!
Thanks, so much!!
If you try it, let us know! Comment so others can read if it works!
Thank you so much for making this video! I searched and searched on how to remove red hair dye gone wrong and yours was the most helpful. It worked!! Now my shade looks 100% better than what it was. :-)
YAY!! This makes me soooo happy to hear! It's best to get as much concentrated Vitamin C and a good stripping shampoo to make this work. Did you use Prell as well, or a different shampoo? One theory I was told was that the possible reason my hair lightened so well was because of the Prell.
The shampoo I used was Neutrogena Anti-Residue as I don't think they sell Prell shampoo in Canada. (At least I've not seen it in Walmart, Shoppers, etc.) Regardless, it still worked! I was very happy! :-)
Awesome! I'm glad it worked so well! It seems like it doesn't matter the shampoo as much as the concentration of Vitamin C!
I love it your hair came out so beautiful! Rock that color... looks so nice on you❤️... Thank you so much... so excited I'm definitely going to try this
This is awesome i so tryed it yesterday after watching this. I had black purple in my hair and it took it all out in 30 mins. Now i can go back to the auburn red i love . ⚘
Wahoo!! That's great!
I wanna go violet i have burgundy now. .
Mizz, my hairdresser misunderstood me and rather than matching my natural brown roots to the warm orange/gold tones auburn I had, put ashy brown on my entire head and now my hair is a super dark brown with purple! Did this help bring the orange and gold out in your hair or just make it like a lighter purple!?? :(
im doing this now, ill post how it went:) UPDATE: OMGGGGGG IM IN LOVE, I CANT BELIEVE IT WORKKED, I cried soo much over my over dark orange/red hair, and this made me strawberry blonde, and Im sooo happy! Its even so I dont even need to redye my hair! People say its dries ur hair out but mine didnt, i left condition in for 10 min, bedhead condinior, and everything worked out perfectly fine!
Yay! 👏 Yay! 👏 Yay! 👏
I'm so happy to hear! 🎊
Thank you for letting us know!
@@thetypewoman How do you guys crush the tablets hahahaha
@@marahava4043 I used my nutribullet 👍
Omfg I cannot explain how wild this is, I’m a natural copper ginger then three days ago I dyed it a darker redder ginger exactly like yours and now here I am trying to fade it to the exact color you have. Literally a blueprint for me thank you!!
I did the exact same thing and now I’m missing my natural ginger hair. How did this work for you?
Smokin hot, love the after color! Im debating trying this on my dreads, just a little worried about getting it all out of my hair; oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained.
I love the color. I have been doing this for years. I use equal amount of vitamin c crushed tablets and shampoo. I have long hair so normally I use about 150 tablets. I leave the paste in my hair for 3 hours.
Does it take out all of the hair color in those three hours?
Thank you for posting this. Made a simple measuring mistake and came out with darker hair (almost black) than intended. I found your vid, followed it exactly, only left on for 25 min, used Head & Shoulders...last 5 min, I poured enuf water to make a lather, then finished waiting...washed it. Conditioned it 2x, came out the PERFECT shade...thanks again. Also, just fyi...instead of buying a big bottle of shampoo that you may not use again...check on the trial/travel aisle if the local drugstore. Saves $ since not using that much. 😉
Southern Gal did it make your hair brassy at all
@@juliedickau491 I think the brassiness will depend on what type of hair dye you have used on your hair in the past. Not just your last dye job- but a culmination of all the dye you've ever applied to your current hair. Just my guess, I'm not a hair stylist!!
even with shampoo/c concoction all over your hair, piled on top of your head, you are truly beautiful! 🤗
Awwwwwwww! You're too kind! Thank you!
I was looking up on Google how to remove dye and your video came up. It's nice to see a friends videos just pop up like that. Hope you're having a wonderful holiday with your kids.
I love this strawberry blonde color. Medium vibrancy and looking so natural and beautiful. And I think it looks fabulous on you. Also love the lighter ends.
Im gonna go home and try this! ty soooo much! just came from coloring my hair and i HATE it! And im going on a holiday in 5 days so it NEEDS to look good!
Your're a life saver!
Good luck! Watch your hair closely and wash it out the moment it lightens to the color you need. Do not leave in longer than 40 minutes. Wash out if it burns too!
@@thetypewoman ty will do!
Youre the reason why ive had ny hair red/ginger for over a year. You inspire me girl.
Thank you! Happy to be an inspiration! 🤗
I know what you mean, @BillieBinks! I'm now wanting to dye my hair red. I've had very dark ginger before, via mistakes made by my hair colorist. Now I'm ready to REALLY take the plunge for red. Thanks, @Ladee!!
WOW! Unbelievable result!! ..and you are such a natural beauty!
Aww shucks! Thank you! 🤗
Thank you girl, I am going to try it , this seems to work better than alot of other products , tbanks !!
OMG!!! I'M TOTALLY TRYING THIS OUT!!! YOU'RE A LIFE SAVER!!!
+Tiffany Smith Awesome! Let me know how it turns out! I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Ladee Lyon It didn't work with the first round & I did it for an hour & a half so I'm doing another round...
Okay! I mixed in some ash blonde hair dye & it worked a little bit better but it still didn't look as good as yours...but I'm happy with it...I just wish I could get it a little bit lighter.
I'm glad you're happy with it! Sorry it didn't turn out how you expected though.
I just did a 1st stripping of my hair today. It worked pretty well! Unfortunately, I go grey mostly on top and have my natural colour through the sides and back ao the majority of my hair dye is on top and a bit darker than my natural colour. But this process brought my natural colour back, in the back and it did lighten the colour on top. So tomorrow I'm going to go ahead and strip just the top where the hair dye remains. Super glad I found these videos!
Thank you for that❤️ and that’s a beautiful finished color on you!
This worked amazing!! So glad I found your video, thank you!
I’m trying this. The color you ended up with was my goal color, but the dye became too dark and colored my hair to a dark reddish Auburn color which I cried over for hours. I hope mine will come out similar to yours
UPDATE:
It worked!! Wow! My hair is so close to what I originally wanted, so if you fuck up; I would totally use this video to help you lighten your color treated hair! I am so happy omg
I'm so glad it worked!! Yay! Clapping my hands over here!
Does your hair go red cause my hair is like dark blonde and I died it dark brown but it turned black so so you think my hair would turn red?
I know this was 4 years ago but the exact same thing happened to me. I hope this works for me 😮
Using vitamin C allows my hair to turn red after 40 minutes of leaving vitamin C and conditioner with a plastic bag over it. So easy to do and cheaper than dying
WOW! Thank you for posting this! I had what I will call a salon FUBAR done yesterday by my hairdresser who misunderstood that when I said I wanted to go back to my ginger “roots” after being a highlighted blonde for 10 years..I figured letting my ginger hair just be free but rather than transition slowly, I wanted her to dye it ginger reddish..what happened was she put too dark of a “copper” and told me that it would lighten up after the initial shock of seeing a burgundy fake looking redhead staring back at me in the mirror...
Went home to my 2young sons who both ran away from me giggling and play hiding on me:( although they were just playing I thought that was my initial reaction when I looked at that awful fake looking red! I found your video right off the bat and had vitamin c and my kiddos shampoo and immediately followed your steps and application and got the ginger hair I have been wanting! Thank you so much for your video!
I've used this method for years with great results always leaving my hair infused with vitamins and feeling soft. Used to bleach and dye my hair almost every week or two for a few years! 1 Tablespoon of crushed vitamin C tablet powder one table spoon of Johnson baby shampoo and one table spoon of L'Oreal conditioner. Leave on your hair for about 30 minutes then use your bleach if you want to get it an lighter tone because the vitamin C method doesn't totally strip out the color but it is important to do before you bleach since it will infuse your hair with the vitamins and you will be left with very soft and healthy hair with minimal risk of your hair ever falling out when going to bleach it to lighten your hair enough for other dyes👍🏻
I just wanted to stop by and say thank you soooo much for this! I spent all weekend depressed because the black box dye I used made my hair look synthetic and fake. I did what you said and I came out with a nice dark brown and idk if it was my crappy application or what but it even came out with some nice light brown highlights haha.
Did you have naturally brown hair to begin with and was it permanent? :)
@@zoe6485 My hair is naturally brown but I had dyed it a lighter brown. Though it looked more orange than brown lol. And it was permanent dye.
I use this method quite often. I do it a few days before I plan to bleach my regrowth and want to get the demi dye out, or if I plan to tone my hair a different color. I use 20-30 tablets and 1/4 cup cheap shampoo. I accidentally found a new method that strips hair color pretty good as well. I use 2 cups of epsom salt, fill the tub with the warm water, and soak for 30-60 mins. I don’t even have to be completely submerged for it to work. I just re-wet my hair by dunking my entire scalp under the water once every 5-10 mins then sit back up. This will remove hair dye that even had ammonia in it (which drives color deeper into the hair shaft). I colored my hair with medium brown L’Oréal hair dye and hated it. Well I took a bath in the way I mentioned above and actually got my hair wet this time, and it faded dramatically. It is a slower process (I say 5 baths equal the same results as 1 vitamin c remover session), but it does work if you’re just trying to remove a little bit of pigment at a time. It’s great if you overall like your new color, but just want it a tad bit lighter. I always wash my hair with my regular shampoo & conditioner then rinse with fresh water afterwards. It is far less drying than the vitamin c method if severe hair dryness is an issue anyone is dealing with.
Thanks so much for making this video. You did a great job!
I have dark brunette hair naturally and wanted to lighten it for the summer, so I tried a honey/oil/cinnamon DIY treatment followed by two days of Sun Bum and sitting in the sunshine for an hour or two. My hair has natural red undertones and turned a bright golden-reddish orange and not the desired carmel/copper highlights I was hoping for. So I dyed over it with semi-permanent light brown dye, hoping it would still be lighter but without the orange-ness. However, since it was a lighter color dye than I normally use, I was afraid it wouldn't do anything if I didn't leave it in for a long time, so I left it in for twice as long as it called for on the box. The result was a very dark brown/auburn. I felt so defeated. So, I came across this video in desperation to help my situation, and IT WORKED!!! I am so so happy with the results! It not only lifted the dark color out of my hair, but my hair also stayed a nice golden-brown with natural-appearing golden/copper highlights. No orange or red hues. It was perfect.
Thank you so much for this video! I used your recipe exactly except I couldn't find the crushable Vitamin C tablets in 1000mg, only 500mg. So I used a few more, I think like 80 tablets. And I used Head and Shoulders shampoo and left it in for 40 minutes. After rinsing it all out (it made my hair very dry!), I used the Head and Shoulders shampoo one more time, and then a deep argan oil conditioner. I put a deep moisturizing hair mask on my hair and left it in for 1 hour, then used leave-in conditioner spray after rinsing out the mask. My hair was the perfect color and felt soft, hydrated, and healthy after all of that.
Thank you again for your video!!
I'm trying to get rid of as much red as possible, so I'm going to give this a try! Thankfully I'm not doing roots so no burning scalp issues that some people complain about.
Did it work? Wonder how bleaching after this would work
You might have to try it a few times. I have done it twice back to back today and extremely lightened it but hasn't gotten all the red out .... I am do it again later today....
This method works really well! I should've done a better job of crushing the tablets, and I only ended up leaving it on for 35-40 minutes because the mixture was stinging my scalp, but it still lifted the color 1-2 shades (I mixed it with a peppermint and tea tree oil clarifying shampoo, which I had a sample bottle of). I used a deep conditioning mask afterward, which I highly recommend.
Vitamin C and Mint are a potent mix and will irritate your skin more easily than just using Vitamin C and Johnson baby shampoo with L'Oreal conditioner 👍🏻
Awwww I loved the end of this video... coming with your new hair colour and make up on, I think this colour suits perfect and love the outcome well done
Why thank you! 🤗
The hair colour looked great before AND fabulous after the treatmrnt, Very pretty,
I've been using this method for over a year to remove temporary colors and it works so well (I'm currently removing a temporary dark purple and blue) but I only use 10-15 tablets in one sitting. I noticed that helps make it a more gentle process. I could see why that many tablets would dry your hair out.
Good to know! Thank you!
Savannah Teater
Can I know how many times in a week can we do this method for removing hair color, please? My hair is a mess with stripes horizontally as the junior Stylists f*^# it up as she didn’t listen to her senior again..
😭😭😭😭 please help..
I love it! I’m going red so glad I found your channel
Thank you! And welcome! 🤗
Looks amazing.. I did it on my hair with the puritans pride brand vitamin c tablets and it seems to be working so far!
Thank you so much. I'm going to try it...to get rid of black color....and yes...I think the color you got after looks good on you..Thanks again...😍😍
OMG ... so happy I found this video. On advice from a beauty supply store person I brought a dye that should have been Light Strawberry Blond. Ended up with a DARK red!! After watching this I was able to lighten my hair back to a Strawberry Blonde. Can't thank you enough.
Yaaaaaay! You're most welcome! I'm happy everything turned out well!
Had hot pink hair once when it wasn’t cool. Used straight green Prell on dry hair. Left it for a while, rinse and repeat shampoo. I think the Prell is the thing that works. YES it dries your hair! But a good five minute conditioner left on for ten or 15 pretty well takes care.
Wow thank you for this very excellent helpful video!!! I take this as an inexpensive, safe and effective way of getting rid of unwanted yucky colour😃...thanks in a million! Lots of ❤️ from me😘😊
I tried this tip last night and holy cow ...i cant believe it works so well ....did a 45 minute treatment on a stage 3/4 dark brown and it brought me to a stage 5 1/2 ..maybe even a 6 ...looking to do another treatment on my length to lighten it more in prep of a new color I want to try ...didnt dry out my hair too much ..but a hask argan oil hair mask took care of that right away . this is a genius tip and so helpful.
I love to hear when it works! Thank you for letting us all know! Good luck on your hair adventures!
WOW! this is amazing!...just tried it and i am 100% happy with the results- my dark brown hair is mostly gray and although i love the gray and g-d blessed me with a nice head of hair... i started adding blonde to it about a year ago, had it done by a professional and it set me back 200.00 so after a few months i said - "dude try it yourself!' 8.99 loreal preference and had great results, felt 15 years younger... yesterday i went to get color and thought dude its winter i can go a shade darker than the color i hade been using- natural blonde...so duh...tried champagne blond, thinking it would be a grayish blonde ~ hello it was a pink blonde i was freaking out last night and i was sure i was going to have to bleach it ASAP... not sure i wanted to torture my hair so soon after adding color... i hesitated and caught your video and was amazed at how great your hair looked after trying this really simple process... i went an bought vitamin C tabs... seriously at the dollar store- since i was not 100% sure if this would work ~ i already had the head and shoulders 2 in one shampoo and conditioner, and as a back up i bought the box 'natural blonde' in case i needed it... followed your steps- piece of cake, but i used a mortar and pestle to break up the 500mg tabs they did not have 1000 mgs at the dollar store... so i used 20 tabs and left it on for 40 mins... and it took 85% of that weird pink tint and brought me back to a golden blonde- this is amazing i wish i had known about it years ago... i will live with my golden blonde for a few weeks before i try to lighten it up again... i have the MOST AMAZING Keratin conditioner it is called KASHMIR i dated a hairdresser and he turned me on to this brand now i buy it on eBay its from Isreal and it will turn straw into silk in one use... they make an entire line i bought the Deep conditioner which i use every few days if i feel i am super dry... and they also have a leave in damp serum that is what sold me on the brand years ago- it smells awesome and makes my wavy hair lay smooth and shiny like i had it done at a salon and that i use when i want to look like a natural blonde since it gives you shine and hair that looks like a million dollars- the line is not cheap but you use such a small amount each time i can easily get it to last a year... with my hair length to my shirt collar- obvioulsy women will use more with longer hair but its worth every penny!..turned my 2 daughters on to it years ago as well and they are always asking me to buy them more.... THANK YOU for your excellent video- and i agree anxiousness and hair go together if you are a hair person you don't like messing with it ~ if you are unsure of the results..this was the best CZcams video i have seen in a while- YOU SAVED THE DAY....
Wow! Thank you so much! And thank you for sharing your story! 🤗 I'm glad this worked for you!
I had brown color for 3months now
And I'm really not impressed with it so I'm gonna do this tomorrow thank you so much
Actually I was confused about a lot of videos I watched about this problem
So thank you again you was so helpful big hello from morroco
Hello!! I'm glad I could be of help!
Ladee Lyon I will inchaallah dear thank you
How did it turn out? I have a dark color that’s been on my hair for about 3 months and I’m regretting it.
Your hair turned out great. Thanks for the tips. I'm planning on trying this very soon to try to break loose some Demi color that has gotten stuck in the back of my hair for months now. I'm trying to transition to natural gray, and been using Demi for the grow out process, but lol now it's stuck in there and so far nothing has worked to remove it. I come back and update after I try it.
Don't be nervous, you did a great job, very articulate. I have to try this, i have to get a dark red henna out, first i used oil now will try this.
I have tried this with olive oil and conditioner (and vitamin c of course :) No damage, lots of lift!
How much of each did you use and when in the process?
Did it !!!! Ok I tryed this BECAUSE. ..I'm going grey with yes permanent hair color now I used vitamin c with a clear shampoo because. ..my grey hair is 5 month in transition so....It does work I think I would do this maybe once a week for those who are growing out their grey hair . It was mostly at the ends but it lifted off the color a bit....So thank you for this idea :) one more thing I only left it in for about 30 minutes cuz I didn't want to mess up my new grey hair coming in.
That's great! Thank you for letting me know! I'm glad it worked for you!
JR. Pacer Thank you for posting this. I'm also transitioning to grey and was wondering if I could put it on the part of my hair that still has colour in it. Definitely going to give it a try.☺
Stephanie c how did it go? I'm thinking about letting the 30% of grey I have grow out and ditch the dye. I am a brunette and last few times dyed it dark brown
So smart to use the blender. I saw some videos where the tablets are hand crushed. Very tedious. So much easier. Thanks for the video!
Thank you!
This did a great job! I would caution using gloves otherwise the dye coming out can color your hands (I"m sure it cautioned you in the video). It really got the build up of red out of my hair and now I feel when I recolor it - it will be more the shade I prefer. Without using a damaging bleach or peroxide process to fix it. I wish I could add my before and after pics of my hair so you would believe me! lol
It worked! I was very skeptical, but after reading the comments, decided to give it a go. Turned my too-dark blood black hair lighter by at least 2 levels! I used 100 500ml. crushed Vit C and Palmolive dishsoap. Lots of deep conditioner after. Totally recommend!
Samantha Lueck hey I have a question. Does this lighten the dye or does it help you come nearer to your natural colour? I have naturally dark brown hair and I dyed it red. If I use this method, will it just make my hair lighter or help me get back my dark brown hair?
i would be cautious and wait to do any more lightening or coloring. bleaching over the green could go terribly wrong. maybe just do the ends again with the Vit C mix but use a Clear shampoo? should be able to get some at any Dollar General type store, then let your hair rest and do some deep conditioning treatments. wait as long as you can to recolor and lighten. these are just suggestions tho based on how i feel about my hair, id be afraid to do to much to it, but you of course have different tolerances than i do. i dyed my hair last summer with Feria Intense copper and haven't touched it since! LOL
Good idea! I may relighten with the Vit C and a dye-free shampoo. I think at this moment I feel more comfortable with that than use bleach.
Thank you!
Ok I really like that color... I’m going to try this... I dyed it to dark/bright for my liking...
Wow looks amazing love that color
Omfg it looks amazing I wanna use this to do my hair it is currently black with blonde balayage I want it red
I meant to dye my hair red (like ginger) and I’ve dyed it the same colour multiple times but this time I used a different brand. I dye it, dry it, and it’s a dark brown-red. And on the box it has what colour it’ll turn out depending on your current hair colour. And I look at it and I’m like “cool okay it should turn out ginger enough that I’ll be satisfied with it until I get another colour” and I cry my hair and stuff and it’s so fucking dark it’s ridiculous. I’ve dyed my hair black in the past and told myself I’d never go dark again.
I tried this to remove purple color from my hair but I had to do it twice to see better result. It worked pretty well but not that well like in the video. However, it was definitely better method than bleaching.
Thank you for your video. Your hair looks great!
Amazing
I needed that recipe badly
Thanks a lot it saved my hair
The reason I used Prell is because it's a really good, tried and true stripping shampoo. I washed my hair again today and did another deep condition on my ends and the green-ish cast on my ends are gone.
Ladee Lyon hi i have a question if u did it a couple times how long did u wait before doing it again
Hi sis can i use pantene shampoo plz reply me
I saw some people here on youtube do it three to four times in one day. I think it depends on your hair and how much it can take, as well as your discernment. I waited several weeks before doing it again. :)
I used Pantene clear shampoo in my most recent Vitamin C wash. It worked great!
Hi Ladee Lyon,
Please tell me about the vitamin c you have used, I went to buy some today and they had 2 types, as I wasn't sure I didn't get any, they had with and without acid, which one is that one you used?

I love the colour that turned out and this video does help me feel better because your hair was very dark like mine is
Okay so i only used 8 tablets and way to much shampoo it lightened it just barely but thats okah because I can try it again next week and not have to really worry about it being damaging to much
Omg how beautiful I used effervescent vitamin c and for some reason my hair started to burn x did make it lighter though Michelle x
Michelle Jones did it work?
You can buy shea butter. Apply it to dry hair. Rub it in your palms to warm first. I do it before bed. It's amazing. Sometimes I blend mine with coconut oil. I also use shea butter as a moisturizer for the skin. It's a little greasy as most butters are so you only need a tiny bit. It has an earthy smell so I use it before bed then shower in the morning.
Thank you!
I do this with about 50 non chewable vitamin c mixed with head and shoulders original shampoo. It seems to work better than clarifying shampoos for me. I've stripped blue black hair dye from my hair with that mixture multiple times because I'm indecisive and think hey I miss my dark hair and then I dye it again and regret it a week later 🙄.
LOL! I understand the struggle! Thank you, sweetie!
will the vitamin c change ur hair back to the right colour?
Did it dry or damage your hair
Same lmao
Ashlee Major typically it goes to a red brown color for me but my natural color is a dark brown. It’ll probably depend on how light your natural color is.
Don’t be nervous!! Your gorgeous either way ❤️❤️🌹🌹
Thank you! 🤗
I absolutely love that color on you.
I love the after. Red color on you. That’s the color I been trying to get. And I’m so mad cuz no salon wants to do my hair because I color my hair myself.
2:06 1000mg vitamin C 50-60 tablets with shampoo
Ladee, I love your videos! I have become a subscriber and hope to dye my hair conservative red at some stage. (It has to be conservative for work). Some things I found when trying this:
I did this 3 times and love the way my hair lightened, bringing it to a dark ginger brown from way too dark box dye (John Frieda 5N, which is what I thought my natural color was). I have fine hair, and I know that. My stylist always says I have a lot of it, even though it is fine. I used about 50 500mg tablets of vitamin C in Head and Shoulders shampoo. #1. My ponytail used to be the size of a quarter in diameter and now it is the size of a dime in diameter. When I touch the top of my head it feels like there is hardly any hair there anymore. #2. I can see via my part lines how wide they are and weren't that way before. #3. The baby hair in my 'high temple' area has now gone away or snapped off about 1" from the roots. #4. I got irritated skin to the point of scabbing on the top of my ear as well as behind my ear. My glasses hurt to wear for the first day or so after I finished. #5. The mixture was paste-y when I put it on. I left it on for an hour the first time I did it and washed it out in the sink. When I applied a conditioner to it the conditioner would start to foam up like it was shampoo. I thought I grabbed shampoo by mistake. :) I rinsed that and used another conditioner. Same thing. It took 5-6 attempts of conditioning/rinsing before the conditioner stopped lathering. That really surprised me! I guess my hair held the shampoo even though the first time I rinsed it was for 5 minutes. #6. The last time I did this, I added about a teaspoonful of conditioner, hoping it wasn't so drying. That did help.
I am thrilled with the color I now have. I am surprised at the amount of hair loss. Ladee, I notice how thick your hair is. Maybe mine was just too fine to use this technique to lighten my hair?
I'm not really one to ever write YT comments, but for this I had to. Yesterday I had my blonde hair dyed with this weird semi-permanent (possibly a toner?) lilac color which made it look mousey and darkened it overall. I really hated it. And I was so bummed because I was worried just washing it alone wouldn't take it out and my hair is already damaged from bleaching it in the past so I knew that wasn't an option. So I came on here and started researching different methods to lifting out color without bleach and came across this and I am SO glad I did. I tried this today once and it really got that color out at least 95%! I think there are some tiny pieces that probably didn't get saturated enough, but overall, I'm blonde again and so happy. It does make me upset though that I hadn't known about this trick earlier in the past when I've done damaging bleach washes to get hair color out lol. This method is a bit drying, but still beats bleaching by a long shot.
Also, the only difference in my mixture was that I added the juice from half of a lemon, but who knows if that actually boosted anything. I think the Vitamin C alone with the shampoo is enough. Thanks so much for posting this video!
WAHOOOOOO! I'm glad it helped! 🤗
PSA: clarifying shampoos make your hair feel dry and stringy. It’s gently stripping your hair to clean bc when you condition you hair gets replenished!
You should always use shampoo for stripping.... of course it will get dry and tatty but you can use a replenishing conditioner after to soothe
Your hair is a really pretty color! Your ends are most likely that "greenish" color because of the color of your shampoo. Also, if you do this technique again, it's important that you REALLY lather up your the shampoo...I think that's why the Head & Shoulders works SO well. It's white & it lathers up easily & fast!!😃👍
The color is gorgeous!
Thank you!
I just used your recipe!! 60 vitamin C tables and clarifying shampoo. WOW!! you saved my life! I colored my hair dark brown and I hate it!. I will try to go back slowly to my original dark blond. Thanks! :)
I'm glad it worked so well for you!
What color was your hair after using this method?
OMG... Very very pretty after wards. Stunning.
Your facial structure look like Julia Roberts and your personality is similar as well!!:)
I dis mine today. Was very Impressed with results
Wow! That worked quite well! I think you look great with that lighter copper.
Thank you, so much!
This is asmr for me
So i had a blonde ombre, dyed it Auburn came out absolutely gorgeous, then i went and got another box dye to "freshen" it up and to my HORROR it turned out pretty much black!! I wanted to cry so bad!! I tried everything! And this is the only thing to work!!!! I just wish i didn't do the baking soda thing i saw other people do made my hair feel horrible!!! Thank you for this video!!!!
I'm glad it helped!
Ugh I did the baking soda thing too and my hair feels awful 😭
Finally something that works🤩🥰
I’ve done it! Had red hair and now lovely naturally looking warm copper. I may keep it for a while before I strip it off.
Jo Smith hey I have a question. Does this lighten the dye or does it help you come nearer to your natural colour? I have naturally dark brown hair and I dyed it red. If I use this method, will it just make my hair lighter or help me get back my dark brown hair?
shumiam zehra hiya! My hair was a rusty dark copper and after this process it went lighter so I think it will lighten up the colour.
Jo Smith what’s ur natural hair colour and was it bleached?
ive dyed my hair a lot and had a ginger color similar to ur end result and I got tired if it so went dark brown.. I got black... I wanted a caramel honey brown color but got nearly black. I washed it a bunch and I think it lightened a teeny bit in sone spots butni kinda regret dyed it. I will try this!
I would personally leave it to be and put coconut oil or a hair mask for at least a week as much as posible because it will get dry if you dye it right afterwards
Oh! And yes. It is safe to bleach and dye your directly after washing the solution out, with the method I posted below.👍🏻
This saved my life . Thank you .
I'm so glad!
She reminds of Hillary Swank
wow that really did the job! I wonder why it never worked for me.
any ways, Id say wait until next friday before dying it again. your hairs been threw ALLOT! lately this week.
Thank you! Yeah if my hair could talk, I wonder what it would say. Maybe I don't want to know... Hahaaa!
Ohhh, that could be it (not dampening your hair). One gal I watched did it without dampening her hair and I wondered why her hair didn't lighten like the others. It could have been that.
You didn't give an exact recipe but I liked that you didn't because it just proves it can work and you don't need to stress about being exact to get results so thank you for that and for talking about it. In reading the comments you see variations on recipes - the reason that people use the dandruff shampoo is because it kind of scrubs your hair and that scrubbing helps lift the color out of the pores of your hair. Clarifying shampoo strips conditioner and hair product build-up to clear out access to the pores - similar means to an end - but as other have said it's not necessary, honestly a little bit of shampoo just helps the mixture to release when you wash it out so the vitamins doesn't stay deposited in the hair follicles and keep lighting or damaging.
The dandruff shampoo by itself always screws up the texture of my hair horribly so I don't use it UNLESS and I am prepping my hair for color or trying to get some excess vivid/fresh dye to release and stop staining my towels. Otherwise I only wash my hair every few days and just coconut oil the scalp if I think its feeling a little flaky. Waiting a day or week between processes is always a good idea just to get the natural oils of your scalp distributed and to stabilize the hair, (also good as a "cooling off" period so you don't get nuts experimenting and pushing limits) but yes, deep conditioning is also always advisable between any treatments and well worth the price of a good protein conditioner if you are screwing around with dyes and just basically experimenting. I have also tried some shine treatments after a dye job that seems to help with the texture.
Thanks again!
Thank you! Great insight!
Thank you for the advice!!! ♥
I know this is an older video but I thought I’d take a shot.
How long after doing this should I wait to do it again?
I dyed my hair too dark on Tuesday, washed it with clarifying shampoo Wednesday and then added the vitamin c Thursday (today) I was scared and only left it in for about 40mins. It only lifted about 1/2 a shade to a shade and I’d like it lighter still.
I appreciate any advice 😊
Oh no! I've had stylists do the same to my friends! Many times too. I guess that's another reason why I do my own hair...the only person I can blame for it turning out awful is myself! But when you spend so much money with a validating expectation due to how much spent, I understand you being very, very upset. Please let me know if this helped at all. I hope it does. Watch your hair closely though and rinse it out immediately if you think the lifting process isn't going right. Good luck, babe!
Love the outcome color!
