Ladee- You are right to question other peoples advice of vitamin C method. Most vitamin C supplements have ascorbic acid, which will be slightly neutralized by the baking soda which is sodium bicarbonate (an alkaline or basic chemical). Ascorbic acid has a pH close to vinegar. Together, with the mixture of water, they create sodium ascorbate, which has a pH of 8 - which is slightly alkaline. Putting them together at the same time doesn't make sense if you want to have the full effect of Vitamin C, unless you are afraid it's strength will damage already compromised hair, which in that case, you should only add a very small amount of baking soda. It makes more sense to neutralize its strength after you strip the hair, then deep condition with oils and hair masks.
Wow, thank you for this information!
If i use only absorbic acid. Powder. Will that be usefull?
I know I am very late but I have done all my lab work with ascorbic acid lol. Ascorbic acid, vitamin C, rapidly oxidizes with the increase of pH. As you said, it wouldn't make sense to neutralize it because it would lose its power. However, it is soluble in water so it would all wash off with water plus it also oxidizes to dehydroascorbic acid with exposure to air. Therefore, I do not see the point in mixing baking soda, during or afterward.
Ive done the vitamin c with clear shampoo alone, works fine, second time I did vitamin c, a table spoon of blue dawn, and any shampoo, I think I used head and shoulders or pantene, it wasn't clear, I know that, worked way better. I also only use about only 20 caplets. I've also done the color remover. I've only used it once and it lightened it considerably, so now I just use vitamin c and get it back to that blondeish yellow then adding pigment.
I'm just confused as to why you rinse with cold water? The point of stripping is to pull color from the follicles.. Cold water closes those follicles and warm water opens them. (this is why you ALWAYS wash with cold water when you have fashion colors you don't want fading)
Idk if the cold water in this situation really works better or not. But if try it with warm water. Should pull more color.
I think she is trying to be less damaging by using the cold rinse finish and in gradual stages of lighting the hair, a hairdresser had commented saying that this vitamin c treatment to hair can be very damaging and leave the hair open at the cuticle meaning any colour applied will be sucked up easily and hair result can be very dark after application, but dark/damaged isn't the desired result, so maybe just being mindful of keeping the cuticle not as open but still trying to fade/lighten her hair? I could be completely wrong here. Just seemed like a possible reason.
But completely right the heat opens up the hair, cold water helps 'lock in' colour longer x
I think she was talking about when she rinsed out the conditioner.
This absolutely works on “fashion” colours like blues, pinks and greens. I use this to remove my “fashion” colours instead of bleaching. Takes a couple more applications but it leaves my hair a heck of a lot less damaged.
Thank you!
Sammi Booger I use this method too I'm normally peacock blue but changed to pearly pink vitamin c some dish soap an shampoo a couple of times an ta dah
but does it lighten your natural color?
I use a couple tablespoons of citric acid in shampoo, leave in only 10 to 15 minutes then condition. Do several times to remove all my henna.

Head & shoulders with vitamin c works like magic
I'm on a journey to strip the henna from my hair and I've watched a lot of videos, and I wanted to say that I appreciate your honesty and thoroughness in this! It's super helpful!
I happened upon your comment. I did henna only on my hair for 14 years and also worked as a hairdresser during some of that period. I wanted to let you know henna binds to the hair in a completely different way than dye. The color can be faded but the henna itself will still be attached to the hair... meaning a perm is likely not to take and many normal dyes won't make any real difference in this hair. It can be bleached assuming it is BAQ henna (that is super important! If there's doubt of it being pure henna don't bleach) and you can color your hair successfully with hilift haircolors. I used the loreal hicolor last year when I decided I wanted a vibrant red and it worked beautifully.
So you can work with it and work around it but even in the salon we never found a way to "strip" henna the way you can strip a color. The mechanism of adhesion to the hair is just very unique and lasting.
Since the treatment is acidic and it helps open the cudical, after you do the vitamin c wash, you need to use a ph balancing shampoo i like using @biolage (please check them out) . it bring you hair back down 8-6 ph. It helps close down the cuticle you can also use cold water but you want something to help make your hair softer again and to look shiny and not as rough after doing color/chemical treatments to your hair. You know how sometimes your hair becomes damaged and fragile, sometime after the color treament. It also helps with with that. Plus a deep condtioner. 🙏
the shampoo is kind of water based but the lathering properties make it capable of micellar formation which basically means that bubbles can form that allow oil to become incorporating (this is why you use shampoo in the first place, the micellar properties allow an avenue for oils in your hair to leave by rinsing it with water) there is a chance that the oil would make it harder to penetrate the hair shaft allowing dye molecules to be released, so it may not work as well for that reason.
The shade you stripped your haircolour to is the exact one I want! Hahaha
Today I tried this on my dyed hair. I had my dyed hair coffee bean, then I applied a dark brown that looked deep black and I didn't like it. Then I applied reddish brown but it only colored my roots. Imagine the disaster of hair I had. So I tried this, but I didn't used those crazy 50 pills. I used 3 emergency vitamin c and down dish soap with a little bit of conditioner like 1 spoon. And it worked so good. My hair is coffee bean again and the hair color is beautiful. I applied deep conditioning and hair mask cause my hair felt too dry. I'm happy with the results, but I don't think I would do this again. Just in an emergency. Way better and cheaper than bleaching or applying another color. Just keep in mind to massage with a little bit of water your hair so the product doesn't dry.
I literally did the Exact same thing you did, I hope mine goes well!
My roots are lighter than my ends🙄
@@Mel-yv1gq does it strip colour build from decades too?
My roots are grey (pretty much > 70% of my entire scalp) & been wanting to go natural grey but with 2 washes of ascorbic acid powder with H&S shampoo the demarcation of grey & dyed hair still remains.
Wonder where I’m going wrong.
Kept it for over an hour before washing with hot water🥵
Hi Ladee. First, I want to thank you. You are amazing! My husband tried the vitamin C and clear Pantene Shampoo mixture on me as with my Chronic Lyme Disease I cant do it myself. So I am very grateful to you Ladee and to my husband. I ha e a dark brown that I’m trying to get rid of. As I had red underneath that. Ladee: Can you please answer? I greatly thank you in advance as you are my trusted favorite go to source for 👩🦰 redheads and tips
1). Would you say a third vitamin C wash would help lighten? (we use 60 tablets crushed in nutribullet mixed with Pantene clear like you)
2). How many times do you have to do the Vitamin C wash to get your desired effect?
3). How long should I wait to recolor boxed color to Red Penny?
(big mistake Olía 6.43 Lightest Auburn TURNED my red hair 👩🦰 into a dark BROWN and no bleeding to lighten it). I am an inner redhead 👩🦰 abd sorry hurts joints bc of my disease to type. I look forward to hearing back from you. I pray you are safe, healthy and well. Hugs 🤗
Love watching your vids. Love the eye makeup!
I love watching all your hair videos ❤️
How often were you doing these treatments? You can definitely watch the lightening progression over time. I am wanting to get my hair free of the dye build up before I decide what to do with it, but I am sure that I will need multiple treatments. I do not want to do them too often and harm my hair more than is needed.
I found this video after my vit. c trial didn't work. . I was trying the vit. c on my bangs to see what would happen and nothing happened because I did not wet them first and did not massage it. It did dry up and I added water 20 minutes in... I guess it was done by that point. I conditioned and left in for five minutes to just finish what I started. Later I will start over making sure to follow your tips.
i have never heard of a vitamin c treatment. this was really interesting! wow it lightens your hair? this is interesting!
Yes it works
Do you tint your brows and do you have an eyebrow tutorial? Love them! ❤️
Confession: I don't have enough eyebrows to tint. LOL!
I don't have a tutorial but I do have a video (check my playlists) of what products I use. :)
Thank you!
Agreed!! I was thinking the same 🙏🏻
I just use the head and shoulders it did a little better on my hair it was real black so it softened the black down but I’m afraid to even try this vitamin C I feel I’m going bold so much washing and rinsing 😩
I got best result with head n shoulders shampoo & vitamin c.
I once used dish soap, another shampoo, and vitamin c mix, and it was VERY damaging. I wouldn't use that mix again 😅
Good to know! Note to self: say no to dish soap! LOL.
I dyed my terracotta but got dark. How many tablets of vitamin c do I have to consume? Also go effervescent tablets
I’ll have to try this now that I have more detailed information. Im worried it won’t work bc my dye has been in my hair for over a month. :(
If you try it, good luck! 🙏 And please comment how it turns out as there are many who have the same concern as to whether a dye that's been in the hair a while can be removed.
@@thetypewoman you got it :)
@@thetypewoman I just realized I got the non-acidic tablets *facepalm*
Mine has been in for a few months and the vitamin c had lightened it quite a bit after two goes!
I have done it about 2 months ago as i had a dye fail where it turned dark red instead of bright red....they have discontinued my dye 😢😢😭😭...but i only left it on for 15mins as got scared..so may leave it on for longer as have decided to try a new dye i really dont think i can not dye my hair having not seen its natural colour which is light auburn for about 6 years 😁😁
Thank you ...love your video's and your last hair colour was amazing!!
It's the pits when your dye is discontinued! They did that to Feria Power Copper, but brought out Feria Intense Copper and I'm hearing it's the same...but I'm still sad they removed it to begin with!
I hope everything works out for you!
What is your favorite red color hair dye
Boxed dye is Feria Power (or Intense) Copper. It's also called Copper Crave. Second would be Feria Deep Copper.
Professional dye is Wella Color Tango Paprika BUT, since I've just dyed my hair with Wella Color Tango in Cherry and am loving it, depending on how this fades, this may win for first. :)
This profile picture looks very similar to my hair but not the color right now lol, my hair is actually purple violet right now , but I'm going to dye my hair that color in 2 weeks in a half once the color is out on the top of my head area towards bottom but not all the way. I'm currently sitting with the vitamin c treatment with dawn dishsoap and a shower cap.Ill let u know if it works. The longer u let it sit the better your results that much ik and the longer u massage before u put the shower cap on also gives you better results. But if u dont use hot water it definitely will not work, also I have done this treatment with other colors in the past, bright red hair, rose gold, black red, dark black blue hair , brown hair, strawberry hair .
Thank you for the tip! Yes please let me know the results! 🤗
@@thetypewoman I did it , and it does work but I will say that it's not completely damage free with darker colors such as purple . But its alot more easy going , and it throughly gets the job done versus bleach just burning it all off , or even having terrible splotches, and stringy hair instead with bleach etc. I hope this helped!🤗
What is your natural colour as i want to try and lighten and leave dye off for a while but not sure i can hack orange which im sure it will turn out.
My natural color is a neutral medium brown (level 5, maybe 6). If you give it a try, please let me know how it turns out! :) And good luck!
I glad I found your video because today I put Ion Color Brilliance Medium Light Brown and mixed it with a Light Copper Brown, well it came out black :-( My first thought was to run to the store and find a lighter color, then I thought, I don't want to put on any more chemicals on my hair. I started searching on CZcams and yours was the first one that popped up. I glad I had Vitamin C crystals already in my cabinet :-) and the shampoo. Thanks for explaining every step Ladee!!!
Did you put the vitamin C on your roots? I noticed they are still the same color.
Hello! Great question! I did put it on my roots but this doesn't work as well at lightening your hair on virgin hair. It works best on previously dyed hair.
Do this make bad to your hair like blonddye?? 🤔🤔 or is this better way remove colour
Vit c wash ur doing wont make ur hair absorbd vit. C but just intense washing of oil in ur hair and scalp. Thats what baking soda or citric acid do in any wash. Plain and simple but diffrent goals and effects depends on how u do it with diffrent hair types color. still intense washing. Healthy once 2x a month
Can I use vitamin c tablets with rose hips? They're not white though. They're more like tan. Will it still work or do they have to be white? ?
That's a good question but unfortunately, I don't know the answer. I'm sorry I can't be of better help.
@@thetypewoman thanks for replying and it's okay. Thank you anyway. 😊
Priscila Rodriguez hey!! did the vitamin C treatment today with tan tablets, it worked fine. :)
Really?? Thank you for letting me know. I appreciate it.
Priscila Rodriguez no problem :)
Does this work with permanent hair coloring. Like Loreal.?
Yes
The bun thing is called BANTU KNOT OUT. But i feel you on that!
I'm trying vitamin C treatment right now with. Purple champoo this is all I have hopefully that's work
how did the purple shampoo work with the orange-ness of the vit-c tabs? curious... probably looked like a shade of brown. Was the lightening tinted with blue?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH BEST VIDEO
Can you do the treatment more than one time in a day?
I died my hair black, i tried this treatment 5-6 times, my hair is patchy now, im slowly noticing a difference but i now wash my hair once a week with a stronger shampoo which helps more than anti dandruff shampoo. Think mine was just too dark to come out or fade as quick as yours
Sian Vlog does it damage hair tho?
My hair color is exactly like your hair in old picture i wannntttt toooo changeee itttt
What color is this?
I’m still currently watching the video but if it isn’t mentioned ..does anyone know if it will work on my hair I last dyed it black few months ago and it’s like faded already but I would like to strip it out and go light ..
Did you try it?
I have black hair and I was thinking about this.
marija ristic sorry 😐 noo I was doing a little more research and seems like it’s only hair that’s been recently colored
I died my hair black, it takes ages to wash out, use a stronger shampoo like tail and mane once a week. with any other shampoo i got to about 5-6 tries with anti dandruff shampoo and it still left it patchy :(
You remind me of Julia Roberts mixed with Alanis Morrissette.
You dye your hair after this or just leave it like that?
Hi, I was wondering if you have had any experience with henna or if you know anyone who managed to strip henna with vitamin c. I tried once and it worked pretty well, but I suppose I’m gonna need at least 3 applications because henna never fades 😭
I am fading henna with oil, but i need something else to alternate
for some reason i’ve tried to do this treatment like twice and i see little to no change.. 🥺
Nicky Grace if you’re trying to lighten your natural hair it won’t work. this only works for people who have dyed their hair recently, unless you’ve done a step wrong.
i actually ended up having to bleach my hair.. it wasn’t my natural hair , my hair was a bright red and it didn’t work for me, i think i had too many coats of red dye in my hair
Nicky Grace maybe next time you try to attempt it leave it on longer or use more tablets, idk i’m going to try this soon
Does it damage ?
Are u going to do it twice or only ones
Just once. :)
did not work for me...must not work on professional dye
What color did dye your hair and what is the color of your hair underneath the dye?
@@thetypewoman I used chewable vitamin C. my hair underneath is a chestnut brown. it was dyed a deep auburn red which faded to a med red
ahh my hair was dry
That's it! Your hair needs to be wet! It won't work on dry.
My hair is very dark, and I have about a half inch regrowth. I want to try this just to get a level lighter, but don’t want my roots to be even lighter. I see you have an inch of regrowth. So did this lighten your natural hair color, or just what was colored?
Thank you for your information. However, I find, MOST CZcams videos just talk and talk without stopping or getting to the point, which makes one just quit...please use this for next segment.
Does this make your hair orange?
Hello! In some cases it may pull orange.
Its me again the know it all hairdresser . ... i don' t understand why you felt the need to strip your hair if you are going to use 7 rr......this colour is a base 7 with red obviously so it would go on top of your hair quite well with the base you had to start with , the vit c is not needed in your case ...@its very damaging to the hair shaft it opens the cuticle of the hair which can lead to oxidyation ...which means your hair will suck up anyrhing you put on it and in turn ive seen cases where it can turn really dark ...so thats my thoughts take it as you may xxx
Thank you for this information! Of course I never thought of it that way. LOL. Therefore, I appreciate your comments!
My thoughts in doing this was because when I put the 8RRV over my level 7 hair, it darkened to a level 6 (which I didn't mind). So I was worried the 7RR over my hair would turn it a level 5. I figured any lightening to my hair would help it from being that much less of a dark red when I apply the 7RR.
But if you've seen cases of it turning out really dark, yikes! I'm glad you mentioned that so I know what I may possibly be running into.
Ladee Lyon ...do a test piece !
I think I will and will do a video on it!
Are you relative to Chakira ?
are vitamins c treatments damaging?
They're very drying to your hair and can hurt your scalp if you're not careful. So to answer your question, yes. But not as bad as bleach in my opinion. But then again, I'm no expert and I'd love to hear from someone who would have a better answer for this! 🤗
Can you use chewable tablets 🤣
You can and I've watched as some people have. But I would advise against it.
Tried but not successful
Love watching your vids. Love the eye makeup!
Thanks, my dear!
