    Ladee- You are right to question other peoples advice of vitamin C method. Most vitamin C supplements have ascorbic acid, which will be slightly neutralized by the baking soda which is sodium bicarbonate (an alkaline or basic chemical). Ascorbic acid has a pH close to vinegar. Together, with the mixture of water, they create sodium ascorbate, which has a pH of 8 - which is slightly alkaline. Putting them together at the same time doesn't make sense if you want to have the full effect of Vitamin C, unless you are afraid it's strength will damage already compromised hair, which in that case, you should only add a very small amount of baking soda. It makes more sense to neutralize its strength after you strip the hair, then deep condition with oils and hair masks.

      I know I am very late but I have done all my lab work with ascorbic acid lol. Ascorbic acid, vitamin C, rapidly oxidizes with the increase of pH. As you said, it wouldn't make sense to neutralize it because it would lose its power. However, it is soluble in water so it would all wash off with water plus it also oxidizes to dehydroascorbic acid with exposure to air. Therefore, I do not see the point in mixing baking soda, during or afterward.

    Ive done the vitamin c with clear shampoo alone, works fine, second time I did vitamin c, a table spoon of blue dawn, and any shampoo, I think I used head and shoulders or pantene, it wasn't clear, I know that, worked way better. I also only use about only 20 caplets. I've also done the color remover. I've only used it once and it lightened it considerably, so now I just use vitamin c and get it back to that blondeish yellow then adding pigment.

    I'm just confused as to why you rinse with cold water? The point of stripping is to pull color from the follicles.. Cold water closes those follicles and warm water opens them. (this is why you ALWAYS wash with cold water when you have fashion colors you don't want fading)
    Idk if the cold water in this situation really works better or not. But if try it with warm water. Should pull more color.

    • @Leda98
      @Leda98 Před 4 lety +1

      I think she is trying to be less damaging by using the cold rinse finish and in gradual stages of lighting the hair, a hairdresser had commented saying that this vitamin c treatment to hair can be very damaging and leave the hair open at the cuticle meaning any colour applied will be sucked up easily and hair result can be very dark after application, but dark/damaged isn't the desired result, so maybe just being mindful of keeping the cuticle not as open but still trying to fade/lighten her hair? I could be completely wrong here. Just seemed like a possible reason.
      But completely right the heat opens up the hair, cold water helps 'lock in' colour longer x

    This absolutely works on “fashion” colours like blues, pinks and greens. I use this to remove my “fashion” colours instead of bleaching. Takes a couple more applications but it leaves my hair a heck of a lot less damaged.

    • @queenkoi
      @queenkoi Před 2 lety +1

      I happened upon your comment. I did henna only on my hair for 14 years and also worked as a hairdresser during some of that period. I wanted to let you know henna binds to the hair in a completely different way than dye. The color can be faded but the henna itself will still be attached to the hair... meaning a perm is likely not to take and many normal dyes won't make any real difference in this hair. It can be bleached assuming it is BAQ henna (that is super important! If there's doubt of it being pure henna don't bleach) and you can color your hair successfully with hilift haircolors. I used the loreal hicolor last year when I decided I wanted a vibrant red and it worked beautifully.
      So you can work with it and work around it but even in the salon we never found a way to "strip" henna the way you can strip a color. The mechanism of adhesion to the hair is just very unique and lasting.

    Since the treatment is acidic and it helps open the cudical, after you do the vitamin c wash, you need to use a ph balancing shampoo i like using @biolage (please check them out) . it bring you hair back down 8-6 ph. It helps close down the cuticle you can also use cold water but you want something to help make your hair softer again and to look shiny and not as rough after doing color/chemical treatments to your hair. You know how sometimes your hair becomes damaged and fragile, sometime after the color treament. It also helps with with that. Plus a deep condtioner. 🙏

  • @leanbean1996
    @leanbean1996 Před 4 lety

    the shampoo is kind of water based but the lathering properties make it capable of micellar formation which basically means that bubbles can form that allow oil to become incorporating (this is why you use shampoo in the first place, the micellar properties allow an avenue for oils in your hair to leave by rinsing it with water) there is a chance that the oil would make it harder to penetrate the hair shaft allowing dye molecules to be released, so it may not work as well for that reason.

    Today I tried this on my dyed hair. I had my dyed hair coffee bean, then I applied a dark brown that looked deep black and I didn't like it. Then I applied reddish brown but it only colored my roots. Imagine the disaster of hair I had. So I tried this, but I didn't used those crazy 50 pills. I used 3 emergency vitamin c and down dish soap with a little bit of conditioner like 1 spoon. And it worked so good. My hair is coffee bean again and the hair color is beautiful. I applied deep conditioning and hair mask cause my hair felt too dry. I'm happy with the results, but I don't think I would do this again. Just in an emergency. Way better and cheaper than bleaching or applying another color. Just keep in mind to massage with a little bit of water your hair so the product doesn't dry.

    Its me again the know it all hairdresser . ... i don' t understand why you felt the need to strip your hair if you are going to use 7 rr......this colour is a base 7 with red obviously so it would go on top of your hair quite well with the base you had to start with , the vit c is not needed in your case ...@its very damaging to the hair shaft it opens the cuticle of the hair which can lead to oxidyation ...which means your hair will suck up anyrhing you put on it and in turn ive seen cases where it can turn really dark ...so thats my thoughts take it as you may xxx

      Thank you for this information! Of course I never thought of it that way. LOL. Therefore, I appreciate your comments!
      My thoughts in doing this was because when I put the 8RRV over my level 7 hair, it darkened to a level 6 (which I didn't mind). So I was worried the 7RR over my hair would turn it a level 5. I figured any lightening to my hair would help it from being that much less of a dark red when I apply the 7RR.
      But if you've seen cases of it turning out really dark, yikes! I'm glad you mentioned that so I know what I may possibly be running into.

      They're very drying to your hair and can hurt your scalp if you're not careful. So to answer your question, yes. But not as bad as bleach in my opinion. But then again, I'm no expert and I'd love to hear from someone who would have a better answer for this! 🤗

      You can and I've watched as some people have. But I would advise against it.
