- I purchased a triple booster package from Wal-Mart and check out what surprise was inside!!!!!!!!! Has something like this ever happened to you? Let me know.

Spiritmonger was bananas back in the day. Removal in that standard environment was very color specific so him having the ability to change colors AND regenerate was absolutely insane.
If you're sick of opening cards you don't like, you could try buying the cards you actually want.
Yeah, that's what I have been doing for the past year now. I realize that I just have no luck when it comes to opening packs.
***** Not even a question of luck, it's economics. Most cards you want to open are actually worth less than the pack they're in, or vastly more but much harder to open. Boosters are sometimes great to gain inspiration from, for example discovering some card you never would have heard of, and for drafting, but if you're trying to get cards, do yourself a favor, save yourself both money and heartbreak and buy singles.
What I am saying is... I love the thrill of opening a booster pack and hoping to get lucky and hit a big money foil... and with as many booster packs that I have bought, you would have thought it woulda happened, but alas, it has not. I don't mind losing money on boosters because I enjoy the experience with the occasional pay off... but since that pay off just never came, I have greatly abandoned buying sealed product and just eBay hunt now.

Dude, yeah. I got one of these 3 packs from Target. There was an apocalypse pack in it, and my rare was vindicate. It was so awesome.
When Apocalypse was new Spiritmonger was the coolest thing possible to open.
Apocalypse is considered vintage? Damn I feel like an old fart! :D
Vintage is a format.
Every card ever printed can be played in vintage but it's also the most expensive format to get into competitively.

The Spiritmonger was the bomb with the vindicate and the pernicious deed. The tree were worth about 12-15dls back in the day. It saw a lot of play in the Rock deck, in block, type 2 and Extended formats.

how do you set up the camra for a pack opening?
My local Wal-Mart only sells Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon and Hockey cards. I've only seen MTG cards one time, and there were only one booster of Zendikar (RTR was the new set back then) in French language (I live in Quebec).
I pulled a french Marsh Flats. Lucky pack!

I used to pick up those 3 packs all the time, gotten a few Judgement thrown in, and a few others.
Spiritmonger was so unbelievably good in his hay day. Now he looks tame compared to the cards we have now.

My local Wal-Mart just got a bunch of these triple packs and dumped them right into a clearance bin at 50% off. I bought 10 of them and 3 had vintage packs. 1 Apocalypse and 2 Scourge packs.
Spiritmonger is a beast of a card that if your opponent blocks it, or if you block with it, it becomes bigger! Not to mention it's a 6/6 for 5 CMC in vintage with absolutely no drawback and a regenerate ability for 1 black mana. It's game over if you gave him trample, lol.
Back in Onslaught my brother and I bought a box together that the uncommons and rares were inverted. There was one uncommon and three rares in EACH pack, plus the random foils. I had one pack that had foil Visara, Flooded Strand, Exalted Angel and Mythic Proportions in the same pack. At the time, foil Visara was going for like $30 and Exalted Angel was like $25. I got most of my playset of fetches from that box... something like 28 of the 40.
I think my favourite bit in this video is 2:24 “Gosh, I just never have any luck with these packs!”

Yeah it's pretty cool when Wal-Mart has these triple packs. I actually bought 5 triple packs about 8-9 months ago or so knowing that there was an Apocalypse inside and out of my 5 packs I pulled 2 Vindicates, Caves of Kolios, Yavimaya Coast, and Prophetic Bolt. Ive also gotten pretty cool triple/double packs from Target and Shop-Ko. About 2 years ago I bought 6 double packs from Target that had Apocalypse and M12 and pulled 2 Pernicious Deed's from em' no joke.
Gotta go for the old vintage cards. That's where the good stuff is at! Nice find with the Apocalypse though.

It's funny, as soon as I saw this video I went to my local Wal-Mart (known to have some goodies, picked up a Fire and Lightning deck there last year) to get one and boom, Apocalypse in the middle. Seems to replace the Dark Ascension slot. No major cards in it but hey, I got to open a pack from back when I still was playing YGO!
Yes the triple packs come with a random sets and you can get them with old sets. If you go to Campaign, Illinois they are constantly selling these packs and the mercenary packs at target and walmart (as single booster packs, not just randomly in the three packs). If you are ever in the area go there and look for them.
Spirit Monger used to be super strong. My buddy used to wreck with it. Built an entire deck around it.

What was the band playing for the intro?
i've bought a few triple packs with judgement. These repackagings are from a third party distributor, so i believe they have a warehouse of extra packs, pre-cons and promos lying around and put together these things using these excess packs. I've even got a worldwake and guildpact in the past year from these triple packs, so you should always look on the side and if you can tell by the art on the side of the booster you can determine if its something neat (ive gotten good at this).
Dude that's awesome!! Our Walmart here sucks. All they have is the deck builders tool kit, core set boosters and gate crasher/ return to ravnica 2 player packs. My girlfriends Walmart is awesome because they have the booster boxes and fat packs. Good find my friend!
I just got into this game, and bought the Intro Set just to start (white and black one with Resolute Archangel), in the 2 boosters inside I pulled Nissa Worldwaker. I didn't even know what it was or its value until my friend freaked out and told me lol.
I love these blister packs - I had gotten the 2-packs and found ones with just Odyssey and Torment, been wanting to find more of these packs just for the old boosters in them, irrespective of the cards inside. :P
For the older cards... the rares actually were ment to be 80 percent awesomness

You sounded so disappointed in the last rare you pulled (trying not to spoil anything with my comment! lol)...but I remember back when that card was worth a bit and standard/extended legal...I pulled it from a box, and I was SHAKING cause I was so excited! :P
LOVED seeing it be pulled again just cause it flooded me with nostalgia! haha...and for what it's worth...I still think the card is a beast of a card! ;)
I remember pulling Feraligator, Typhlosian, and Recycle Energy out of three packs of Gold/Silver Pokemon packs when I was 12 or so. Not Magic, but similar situation! Always nice to get those nice surprises! ^_^

I just went to Target today 8/21/13 and saw the same thing as you, with 3 packs, middle one PURPLE for $12. The 3 packs were Avacyn Restored, APOCALYPSE and Gatecrash. There were only 2 more on the shelf but I might go back and get them tomorrow. Ironic... I opened a Spirit-monger too in my Apoc pack.
I got a Fallen Empires and a Saviors of Kamigawa in these before, they are pretty badass.
Evertime I buy these types of packs, I always get epic pulls.

I actually bought the same thing in your video at Target. I ended up getting a pack of Avacyn Restored, Guildpact and Odyssey, it confused the hell out of me cause I thought it was all from the Innistrad block.

One of triple packs i bought had an FNM lightning graves in it. Instead of the usual crappy terastadon, angel of glory's rise, or sunblast angel.

Anything that isn't in the Modern format is considered vintage. That's the accepted vernacular. But you can still play with just the vintage cards in the Legacy format.

No, it's not a high value card, but he is awesoem in EDH and those casual kitchen table games. One of those old school bombs that is still nice.
A long time ago, I got one of these that had a fifth dawn pack in it, pulled a Crucible of Worlds, and in my ignorance, traded it away like a bulk rare. I still regret it to this day.
Same thing happened to me as a kid, 11 years old and I bought a 7th edition pack, pulled a foiled birds of paradice... Little did I know the card was worth over 300 dollars at the time I traded it for about 10 bucks worth of Rares lol

So 3 friends and i did a super draft with return to ravnica, gatecrash, and dragons maze. Together we had 45 boosters and we got no mythics or planeswalkers...HOW!?

walmart buys large amounts of packs and randomly packs them together like that. probly old stock they still had at the packaging wearhouse. nice pull on the monger, it was my fave card of the block
that is not how that works at all lol. Walmart doesn't stock the magic cards for one, and they wouldn't bundle the packs like that either.
ya last year the target and walmart got shipments of double packs that were all packs from that time...it was awesome
The most interesting thing that has happened to me with these wal-mart packs was a rise of the eldrazi booster. It was quite surprising!
also they have triple packs in some stores you might get a vintage pack or a card that you didnt notice in it, i once got a chandra, it was just sitting in the middle of the packs i was like extra card? sweet bonus!

Apocalypse was my MTG hay-day, and Spiritmonger was as good as any rare to open - I think it was a $20+ car in that Type 2
I'm a big fan of (whenever I do blow money on opening packs, aka scratch tickets) getting packs from Walmart. They seem to have a different collation, especially in the 3-pack blister packs. I've ripped duplicate mythics back to back out of 4 or less packs several times. Not to mention those blister packs are made by walmart so there are probably mistakes everywhere.
This happened to me, forgot what the set was, but opened it up and the pack was in there. Nothing really exciting, but still cool.
Rats. I just checked the 12 3-pack blister packs I have, no oldies inside. You can definitely tell while still keeping them sealed, since old packs have gold/bronze tips for the most part. Still a no-brainer to pick them up though. 3 OOP packs + promo foil for $11? Plus the chance of getting something crazy like Saga or Mercadian or something.
that's not a packaging error, that can legitimately happen. The foil slot replaces a common and can be any rarity

They had Worldwake, New Phyrexia and M12.
Both of the New Phyrexia packs I opened had Karn in them. it was insane!!
Spiritmonger was the stone nuts back in the day. I think it still sees some play; it's worth $3.75 TCG Mid.

I opened a three pack with Innistrad, Worldwake, and Theros in it. I got a Past in Flames from the Innistrad pack, nothing interesting from the other two, and a foil Atarka.
can you get triple packs in the UK?
Back in the days when i baught Yu-gi-oh boosters and also Pokemon boosters, i wasnt that lucky either. But nowdays when i buy Mtg boosters , im more of that lucky dude. I baught 3 Conspiracy and 6 Theros i think it was , then i got 2 mythics including Dack Fayden, and that was the first Conspiracy boosters i ever baught. Also got a land card worth about 150 kronor wich is about 20 dollars and a few more.
