MSI Z790 Carbon WiFi DDR5 Motherboard Overview - 13700K Test Bench Upgrade

- Ever since review my RTX 4090 graphics card, I felt like my test bench was due for an upgrade because of the CPU limitations I was seeing from the 5800X. Therefore, with holiday deals on going for PC hardware I decided I might as well upgrade the test bench with a more competent CPU that will allow my 4090 to stretch its legs and also allow me to do more GPU tests without having to worry about my CPU hurting results. I decided to go for the i7-13700K from Intel, with its fast 8 p-cores it should definitely be a nice pairing with the likes of the RTX 4090. MSI was also kind enough to send over their Z790 Carbon Wifi motherboard, its feature packed and will allow me to comfortably overclock the CPU and memory.

Great video, but I do have a question. MSI MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi II Gaming Motherboard. if you use the top M.2 slot then the PCI express below it will run at half bandwidth. Is this true and would using the one below it work better? Thanks for the help.

That's an impressive motherboard you got there, Danny! Which power cables are you using for the 4090? I got the Corsair one and still waiting on Cablemod's right angled adapter for the Gaming X Trio to help manage the cables a bit better.
I'm using an adapter from fasgear, bought it from amazon for about $25 CAD. Its been rock solid since day 1, no issues, gives an audible click, and looks way better since the wires are individually sleeved.

hello, have you had any problems accessing the bios or the usb boot key because it is impossible for me on my z790 carbon, my pc starts up and arrives directly on the windows page, do you have a tip because I don't know what to do? it works 1 time out of 50

Hey I got a prebuilt from a company with this mobo, is there a way to check myself which slot they installed my m.2 into? Just wanted to make sure its not the slot right above the GPU like you were pointing out in the video!
So if you put a ssd in the gen 5 m.2 slot your gpu will be capped at x8 and if you put an ssd in one of the gen 4 slots the gpu can run at x16?
I have the exact same cpu and mobo, but when I place 2 sticks of ram it won’t boot, just with one do you know why?

I can see 6000mhz at the box memories but in the bios setup screen shows 6400mhz. Can you explain me how can I setup it?
if I recall you need to change the XMP in the bios to get the most out of your ram, I had to do it with mine
I have exact mobo downloaded all chipset/lan/WiFi/audio drivers still says missing BASE SYSTEM DEVICE DRIVERS
Did u download the drivers from the included USB device.
I hear that the cmos battery is hard to change as it’s buried under a heat shield.

I have the same motherboard and gpu as well. Usually only go Asus, but their prices keep going up and wanted to try something different. Hope you make a CPU tuning video as well. Want to overclock my 13900K properly.

Bluetooth should be 5.2 version, not 5.3...
Just to clarify it is Mega transfers not megahertz for RAM speeds. And 36CL is pretty slow for gaming ram at 6000 mega transfers.
Also, this board does NOT have Thunderbolt. It would need to be USB 4 to also be a thunderbolt port.
I own this board and it converted me from ASUS and Gigabyte.
It is one of the best if not the best Z790 board on the market.
