My favourite part of this video is when you said “When you come to Kiribati, you have to come with zero expectations. Zero expectations for luxury and for pampering. If you want any of that, Fiji is directly south.” And thats how it was when I went to visit my relatives in Kiribati earlier in February 2020. My relatives in Kiribati were worried because they thought I wouldnt want to stay with them because of the way they live but I was more than happy to be with them and experience their way of life. I was fortunate enough to make my way to North Tarawa to visit my other relatives which by surprise they built me my own buia for me to stay in during my stay in North Tarawa. But I see you are way luckier since you’ve been to the outer islands like Butaritari and Abaiang. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Kiribati and I hope to go back one day. I really enjoy watching your vlogs of Kiribati because it makes me miss my family and the memories I made in Kiribati 💙
Aloha/mauri good friend! This comment made my day for sure! I found I-Kiribati to be timid and of course hoping the best for I-matang even if everything is minimalistic. It's greatly admirable. And when you open your heart to what they offer, they are the absolute best and loving on a whole new level. You made it this year at a great time before the world shut down. Hope you're faring well and i'm really glad you enjoy my videos =D
That was beautiful man. I lived in Kiribati for 2 years and couldn’t agree more with everything you said. Keep it up my guy you’re amazing.
Thanks so much brother! 🤙🏽🌺 tekeroi
One the best travel videos I've watched by far. Finally one that highlights the positives and negatives, appreciates the culture and highlights the reality of development issues faced by the people.
Only here to enjoy the world but share what’s highly underrepresented, be it the people and culture and realities like these. Thank you so much for this wonderful feedback and support! I’m glad you enjoyed 💙
i love how you said this is one of your favorite destinations.. yet if you search for it, it says dont come here!(today that is) seems like something is going on here and "they" don't want us to go here.. which means I am going to work on going here.. sounds magical!
Wow amazing 😍😍i am still fall in luv with my beautiful home island 😘Kiribati😘...even thou I'm .....far away......thanks to u poster......👍👍
Really great video sharing your impressions of Kiribati. I’ve always wanted to go there. You’ve got a good attitude which is why you had such a good time. I’ve travelled through some of Fiji, the Cook Islands and French Polynesia but something calls me to Kiribati.
Happy Travels🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴
Yokwe, bro, I've learned a lot from your videos, and man you're bless to travel and explore these beautiful little countries, I'm very happy you're sharing you're travels, it's one thing to watch, but to experience in first hand? see, touch, and taste. It's a whole other level. God bless you on your travels ❤️ love from the USA.
Amen to everything you just said. I’m just glad I’m able to share these voyages 🥹🤙🏽 heads up for a Marshallese language project I’m working on. Looking good so far
I love everything about Kiribati 🇰🇮 ❤👑 People are the best like a beautiful Ocean❤ Thanks for the awesome video🙌
They are the best 💙😊 thank you for your comment 💙💙💙
Fantastic brother, thank you 👊🏾
Simply awesome bru! Very informative. I had penciled it in on my bucketlist, but after watching this, in spite of all the challenges to be anticipated, I'm now 100.01% sure I want to visit. All those little interesting facts/nuances are what MAKE THE ENTIRE TRIP for travellers! I am travellers😂🤣
Ay brother! That's .01 % closer to going for one hell of an adventure :D Exactly how you put it. I didn't just want to glorify all the beauties of going. There are realities to make note of but honestly makes the adventure. Kiribati is certainly the perfect place for that with the kindest people ever :D
amen to that!! i agree 100%!!
Thank you so fot sharing ! 🥰💗
Very insightful!
Always love your videos about Kiribati....have a great journey lol
Always love your love and feedback! :) No journey yet other than living in Hawai'i :)
Great Video. Thank You
Defintitely a favorite destination I have ever been to also. Tarawa and Butaritari. xoxo Ahh,"the bus",one of my favorite activities on Tarawa. When I was there they didn't yet have those larger vans so the bus was usually a Toyota family van. We kept a running tally of the most people we had been on one of those with - up to 20+ some days and a few shopping items or a bucket of fish here and there. "Tiaoka ikai." One thing youhave not mentioned is that the cost of getting to Kiribati has sky rocketed since 2010. I would love to get there on a sail boat one day.
Inspiring video thank you 🙏🏻🤍
Really terrific video, just aching to get back to that gorgeous part of the world....
same here my friend 😌😌
Awesome video mate. Thanks!
🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks Anthony. Great video.
🤙🏼 thanks for watching 😊
I’m sold!
Excellent presentation
Anthony, Great summation of your travels on Kiribati and your personal views of life and customs of the islands will be invaluable to anyone who would like to travel there or just gather info of that part of the world. All the best my friend.
As always big mahalos for your awesome feedback. If it not for someone with intentions of going, education and information is just as valuable :) Aloha hibiscus 🌺
That’s really cool! I’ve always wanted to travel to the less visited countries in the Pacific. Something about going to the overcrowded tourist hotspots seems so boring to me, I’ve always thought that’s there’s so many more beautiful places that people have never heard of
Great video Anthony! What an adventure and amazing trip to my small and beautiful island KIRIBATI! My Mom she's actually from Tarawa and also Marshall Island from her father, but we went to Tarawa (Kiribati) when I was 5 yrs old then raised and live there until now. I am very happy and really enjoy when I watched your video because I missed my whole family and my Island since I left Kiribati for almost 5 years now. Very interesting to hear about your documentations and observations as well regarding the Kiribati way of living, and with your experienced we apologized about some weird or negative facts about our Island, especially concerning the mistreatment of the Environment by dumping a lot of trash and garbage into the sea. That's very sad but we really hope that our Government will take more actions and raise more Awareness about the negative impacts to our Surrounding Environment, so that they might put a lot of Control and Restrictions on those improper situations. I'm sorry to hear about your medical issues as well when those dogs bites you. That's really bad but anyway, we hope that you are okay and getting a good recovery from your wounds after that time. If you are planning to visit Kiribati again in the future then my best advice is, always bring a stick when you walk through the villages on the Island, and I'm sure that you will scare them and chase them away if you pretend to raise your arms as well towards them. Christmas Island or Kiritimati Island is a wonderful place to visit as well because there's an abundant milk fish and bone fish there, and a lot more. I've been to Christmas Island and I lived in Ronton or London in English, usually the name was given by British soldiers when they lived on the Island before and carrying out Nuclear Weapon Tests during the 1950s. Anyway I look forward to watch your next videos again especially if you have time to visit Kiribati again in the future,....who knows? We'll praying that this Pandemic will be over soon so that everything will be resume back to their normal situations. I myself I am planning to go back to Kiribati too once I complete my study here and when these flights are uplifted back again as usual. Thank you very much for your video and I wish you all the Best on your future Adventures! Happy new year and stay safe always, God bless!
Mauri mauri Yan! I enjoyed reading this awesome comment and so glad I was able to virtually bring you home through my video(s). If I return to Kiribati, it would probably be the flight from Hawai’i to Christmas Island or some of the other islands of the Line Islands. Just like you, I pray and hope the pandemic comes to an end soon so we can get a chance to get back to travel! Sending aloha and Hawaiian sunshine to you my friend🤙🏼🙏🏼
@@aperezvoyages Mauri naba bro, (korarabwa) thanks for your response. And yeah thanks again for your video since when I saw some villages there on Tarawa and also some places on the other two islands - Abaiang and Butaritari that are also combined, they really brought back my memory when I was schooling in St. Joseph College (Tabwiroa) Abaiang, and also the main Catholic Parish at Koinawa in Abaiang as well. I also remember back the village of Antekana where the Airport, Council and the wharf were located, and that's during my last visit to Butaritari Island in the year 2013 because my Wife she's from there Makin and Butaritari islands. On Tarawa it's probably the same but I missed it a lot especially my village at Abarao, Eita since my house is still there behind my older sister's house and shops beside the main road. Anyways Kiritimati island is definitely a good place as well, but the only issue there is the weather, as it's very hot during the day but in the night it's okay as it's quite cool. Except on the other two islands - Tabuaeran (Fanning Is) and Teraina (Washington Is) where their weather is a bit different, because it slightly mild but experiencing a wet season and much cooler as since they're right next to, or close enough to the ITCZ Pattern. By the way I never been to these 2 islands but as far as I know, you can go to these islands by boat or by Air. So currently there is one Air Kiribati Y-12 Aircraft there that usually operating between these Line islands, which means Kiritimati (Christmas) would be the first place for the flight as it's link to International flights from outside countries just like Tarawa when you took the flight from Tuvalu to there. Sorry for a long story Anthony but anyway with the hope of our prayers, I look forward to watch your next videos again in the future when this pandemic is come to an end soon. Wish you all the Best on your Adventures bro and take care and God bless always!
Thank you for sharing your connection and family history to these islands. As for Tarawa, from what I’ve read and via photos, it has changed as far as infrastructure goes. But culturally, it’s still the same as the descriptions I’ve read. Interesting to note about Christmas Island. I wonder if it’s hotter there than the Gilbert’s or not. 😊 I wish you a happy new year my friend!
I wanna to raise my hand to say yes you can stay at my place...but when I Keep watching you. And melt my heart that you guys met my grammar Akineti Moataake and then they drop you guys to my a uncle at Bonriki.. for us ikiribati we a great fully to do this because we love share correct me if I'm wrong 🙃. God's Bless your journey 🙏 thank you
Well done. Thank you
Thanks man ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽
Great video, congratulation from Mexico. Kiribati is beautiful
Gracias amigo! Aloha from Hawai'i
@@aperezvoyages GOD bless you
7:05 I'm amazed that someone owns a BMW Z4 in kiribati
Good upload. Waste management should be emphasized on the island. Sensitizing people should be the focus of authorities. They should provide waste management services for the public. Glad to see solar power systems in use. Renewables are the future of power. Solar and wind power is going to be widely used across the globe in the future
You're right about renewables. It's a slow process but it's inevitable and what our planet is in dire need of. As far as waste management goes, it's a slow process. And although I saw one in my entire time. That's one more than zero and is a step ahead in contrast to the horrors I've seen. Hope you're well my friend and mahalo for watching! Aloha
bro you really sould've visit Nikunau. I'm living in Australia now but I was born and bred in the southern Kiribati, Nikunau. Over there, te iruwa (guest) is the most important human being than the president of Kiribati. I'm a little drunk now but, I am watching this and I really appreciate your honesty about Kirivbati.Overpopulation and pollution are the real core issues of my island home. It is really not for the tourist but the adventurers like you are the best I-matang foreigners who would have the best time there. If you happen to stop by Australia, let me know I'll buy you a beer mate. happy travels.
Got me laughing at the drunk part haha. Thank you for taking the time to comment your feedback and glad you enjoyed my videos. It was tough choosing islands especially on a limited budget. But still glad at where I went. I actually have a working holiday for Australia until next week when it expires . Had been trying to go but Aussie borders are closed from covid. Shame, but what can I do. Cheers mate and might catch up in Aussie when the time is right 🤙🏼
@@aperezvoyages true, too expensive to go to the southern Islands, part of the reason it have been long time for me to visit Nikunau. you might be really stuck there for covid, stay safe mate. and the bow down stone trick for dogs works 99% of the time, if riding the bike, just put yr legs right nxt to your hands or up on your shoulders :)
Since you travelled pacific islands / atolls, have you seen any activity of mangrove planting anywhere?
With sea levels rising and those islands only a few metres above water, mangroves can be a solution- also to reclaim land.
But I wonder if it’s being done.
I was there for 5 weeks and i loved it. I did get sick and the mosquitos almost killed me. But other than that it was awesome
Kiribati wasn’t so bad for me . I actually had the worse mosquito attacks in Fiji . 😎
@@aperezvoyages Iam curious to know what source of drinking water does Kiribati have?
Rain water that most people have or water from the well that they boil.
Korabva for your great video😊 Kiribati 🇰🇮
Teraoi my bro! Hope to see you soon when I return
Kiribati 😍😍😍🇰🇮🇰🇮🇰🇮
Ignorant me thought Tarawa was the only island of Kiribati. I learned so much from this video.
Haha. You’d be surprised what little people know about Kiribati. And the thing is, I give props to people who even actually heard of Kiribati. Most people have never heard of Kiribati! 😊
@@aperezvoyages I can name every mainland country. But when it comes to the islands, I have a lot to learn. I could pretty much tell you what's a country and what's not just by the name but as far as its geographical location, I'm terrible. I'm going to sound so smart next time I properly pronounce "Kiribati" but also hardly anyone knows what it is so it wont be that impressive. Lmao
Islands are far more complex, especially if you’re looking at specific islands. Or even territories and or autonomous places like Cook Islands and Niue for example. I have an advantage because I’ve lived in the pacific for 3 years. But even so, I’m just one big ass nerd when it comes to the world map. 😄
@@aperezvoyages haha yeah for sure. Well thanks for making this video. It was awesome. My favorite is the time zone line. I see that all the time when I'm browsing the map and never really thought about it. But now I'll always know it's Kiribati.
Hahaha yea man. I never knew that until before I visited Kiribati. Had me like 🤯
I learned about Kiribati from a travel writer named J Maarten Troost who lived on Tarawa for 2 years.
It was a Pretty interesting story to read 😅
What I learned from the locals in Tonga when vicious dogs approach you just bend down and pretend you're picking up a rock that will make the dogs flee.
True. I had a close dog experience in Tongatapu but i think were yelled at my some locals cleaning their property.
Two questions:
Any sign of land-reclaiming or protection activity through planting mangroves?
Can foreigner buy or build property there?
Thanks, its settled Im not going there..
My home is away from home,Kiribati is a place that I will rather be❤🎉🎉❤👌👍🏖
I love Kiribati and niue
Nearly made it to Niue! Wish I had went 🇳🇺
❤️
Well covered
Glad you mentioned the rubbish, poo on beaches.
On the bus - the noise, smell and sweat. Horrible experience
The locals have a certain odour about them
nice video
Thank you 🤠🙌🏽
have a good day
You too braddah! Aloooha
I want to travel in kirabass
Nice video .... Why don't you visit the last two islands at the southern tips of Kiribati .... I bet they will treated you far better than the rest 😍
I had to really really budget accordingly as I had not so much funds left for my trip. 😁
do you live there? can you tell me, are they named something specific other than kiribati? im very interested in traveling to this beautiful place, and it seems that there are some sources who are trying to deter this .. would love any inside knowledge
Even Tongans from Tonga we also raise our eyebrows replying yes without saying it! Interesting I never thought of this it's just the norms for us.
Tonga was my first island in a trip of 7 Pacific Islands. And honestly, I might have overlooked a habit that I started then and only realized it 2 months later when I arrived in Kiribati. hahaha I still do it also because it's common in Hawai'i which does indeed follow many norms of other Pacific Islands :)
Along the way I noticed it more and more but def remember Tonga and Fiji it was done. Just seemed more prevalent in Micronesian nations I guess 😊😅
@@aperezvoyages I don’t know if you noticed but Micronesians (like Melanesians in Papua) tend to point with their nose
Eaera ko nang kitaana kiribati ia uuki te border ?
I'm so proud of him for his correct pronunciation of the name of my country "Kiribati"
If I’m going to talk about a place, saying it’s name correctly is a must 🙇🏻
I spent a month in Kiribati circa 2002 (7 yrs old at the time) & cared for a pack of stray dogs when I was there. My family claims that they cried and looked for me the week I left & it still breaks my heart.
That’s so sad 🥺🥺🥺
Im proud to be an IKiribati
Ko rabwa tekeraoi gkoe❤
This would be great if you gave dimensions in American Standard measurements.
I did this vlog while I was in Kiribati so I used the metrics of Kiribati. 🇰🇮
Are there direct flights to all these Pacific islands from indonesia????
More than likely no. You will more than likely go through Fiji if it's not Australia or New Zealand.
@@aperezvoyages what about singapore???
Still more than likely connecting in aus or New Zealand
@@aperezvoyages so fiji could be a stopover to get to kiribati or solomon islands right??
3:06
We all just got flipped off
Nice video! Do they use dating apps on Tarawa?
I'm 100% sure they don't. Dating in Kiribati is what dating was over 100 years ago. In person through word of mouth or in community gatherings :)
@@aperezvoyages Sounds nice with some old fashioned dating!
My mother is I-Kiribati. They are also incompetent when it comes to paperwork. I don't have a nationality and mainly because of it. Talk about weird, my mother is the weirdest person I know, so different to western people
👌💯🇧🇪
Are bukina ko kapi n self defence hahahaha
When you walked in Tarawa you must bring or take a hard and long stick with you that stick will prevent you from dog bites that my solution
Yep’ what I had been told too 😃
It was probably the water that made you sick, not so much the food.
6:01 lower right. Looks like a dead dog. Well, it’s gotta go somewhere.
It’s sure is 😬
Dogs are not upset because "it's hot in the central Pacific" - they are hostile because humans treat them like shit.
This is very true!
We're bullshitters, but usually perceived as funny and humourous bullshitters
- A Proud Maianese (which is what my father whose from Maiana calls our people)
Hahaha love this
No curvature dude, do some deep homework, no spinning globe... Thanks for the wonderful video. True those children's are very socially healthy.
Not sure what you're trying to say in the beginning but yes, the horizon bends in the central Pacific and the globe spins. 🤷♂️
