As soon as the T50 that I had but now I dont arrives from Amazon I will be installing this dampener that I had ordered from Amazon. The tip of letting the part self tap then turning it around and screwing it in worked good.
Thanks for the video. I ordered the part from my local Ford dealer and scheduled the install for today. My Superduty got its first service today so I thought I would get the tailgate assist installed too. 3 1/2 hours later the service writer let me know that they couldn't do the install today because they didn't have a tech available today to do the work. Evidently "the rear bumper has to come off" to install the part. Looks like I'll do the install myself this weekend. A big thanks for all the videos and all the info you provide!
I installed this mod about a month ago. got mine off ebay for around 60. I made the thread the same way you did after i realized that spot was not treaded. As always Keep up the great work. So far my beast is at 16,200 miles
Got mine at a local dealer shortly after purchasing my 2018 F350, installed it myself and enjoyed it EVERY time I drop that gate! No more bangs, or dropped items due to that freewheeling gate.
Don't believe it's color matched, it's just that he has a black truck, and the part comes in black. That's why the instructions show a paint gun as needed tools, so you can paint it to match the truck. That particular part is actually installed on the bed before it's goes through the paint process.
Thank you for video! I did this mod last night ('22 Super Duty). TIP: When removing the right rear light....pull at an outward diagonal angle (back and to right), NOT straight back. The outer tabs for the light are angled out. If you pull straight back you could break these tabs. =( Thanks again for your videos!! Subscribed to your channel!!
Put this exact kit on my truck today. Wanted this over the electric assist. Fords electric one costs $$$$ to fix out of warranty. Great video, Thanks for the tips.
Did this on my 17 SD and my 22 SD. I lucked out on my 22 it already had threads cut for the bottom bolt. On my 22 i removed the bottom hinge bolt with the tailgate in the closed position then opened it leaving the cable hooked up lifted the tailgate out of the hinge and rested it on the bumper on a rag. Changed the hinge out and the put the strut on maybe 20min total
How did you get them to take the Ford points as payment? I have 50,000 points that will expire because the dealers around here said the points are only for shop repairs. Well, repairs are covered by warranty and by the time I am out of warranty the points will be expired.
@@INRIKingOfKings They are mistaken, do a fordpass rewards search online and it clearly states you can use your points for ford accessories to customize your vehicle. They're not playing nice.
@@bozerbrett7867 They are in control. It did not matter that I tried to show them the Ford website. They just said I was not interpreting it correctly.
Cuz, That was my first mod to my Super Duty. I did the same to the F150 that I had before. I just got this one at the dealership. It was like you said $ 50. -$60.
I assume this only assists with the tailgate drop. My brother-in-law just bought a used 2019 F-450 Limited and it feels like you need to be able to shoulder press 200 pounds to get his tailgate to go up. What would cause the extreme weight going up/closing the tailgate?
Are you happy with the DZ? Saw some crappy reviews and wasn't sure if it was user error or a problem with the product itself. Really would like to do it on my '11
@@michaeldede1383 for the most I am with Dz. In my case it was ok it slowed the tail gate down but not like the ford one. So I tried two and now it just slowly comes down. Had them in the truck for a year now and no problems with it.
1st mod I did on my 2020 250 was this damper/strut. 2nd mod was to get a tailgate with a step! Then had both hinges painted along with the tailgate, now it looks factory.
EXCELLENT video! Is that what the trucks equipped with power tailgate open come with from factory? I might do this cool mod to my truck. Any way to add power tailgate open to the trucks not equipped? That would make an excellent video.
I did this, had some install frustrations but nothing crazy. Mine doesn’t drop near that slow, it’s maybe 1sec slower than not having it. Yes it was a genuine Ford part, must be a bad shock or something
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I think the big problem with that is there is really no way to automatically unlatch it before it’s lowered, I don’t think there is enough room. I guess if you use a electro/hydraulic or maybe a screw drive type system you wouldn’t have to worry about unlatching because those two systems could actually keep the tailgate shut. I don’t know Arod, you figure it out…..you are the king of all things powerstroke
Does the shock go back or could it be a bad tension rod where it still feels like it slams down on my truck? I have a lariat that seems to have had the tailgate replace and it slams hard still even with the shock.
It does but I’m not sure if it’s broke or not connected properly to the end where it ties into the bracket. It’s not as smooth as what you see in your video. It slams hard at when it gets close to parallel. Do you know if there are different strength tension rods for the different option tailgates?
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I read them aka skimmed. I will look again. I guess there isn't a fomoco one? I saw the deezee one on Amazon if that's what you're referring to...

We just did the upgrade last weekend. Took no time at all. Wifey held the tailgate while I swapped parts. Went really fast and no more tailgate drop.

Easiest mod yet for my 2020.
