This was exactly what I wanted, watching the lads have their mind blown. A note on the technical implementation: the way the game is able to take a photo and turn it into a 3D environment is because the photo was a capture of the entire camera frustrum and all the geometry it contained. This is why when you step side to side, the sides of the world you put down look like diagonals. All the engine has to do is overlay that same geometry on top of the existing world. It's a very good execution of a simple idea.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who got to the little pixel-shaded medieval bit and thought "I would play a whole game that looked like this"
There's a Souls-like just like this! It's called The Last Hero of Nostalgaia (Gaia not gia)
Goofy game that plays like a souls game and has a Staley Parable like narrator and the world is a lot like that pixel section
Listening to Jeremy talk about this on the podcast convinced me to buy it and I'm loving it. The novelty of the switch between 2D and 3D when you place a photo never wears off, makes me smile every time.
It was such a fun game to play, some of the puzzles are awesome. The story feels like Myst where it really doesn't feel like it had any bearing on the puzzles, so don't expect Portal levels of greatness
I'm a simple man, I see a Noclip video, I like and comment
More of this guys. Brilliant!
Cool looking game, glad I’ve seen some gameplay. Just gonna wishlist it now and hopefully get around to it in the future 👌
Weird how that story beat didn’t trigger
Edit: oh, good that you got it to trigger in the end!
Also, if it continues doing new cool stuff throughout the 4 hours, I suppose I really need to get this game, and not watch any further of the playthroughs that I watched approximately until the point where you stopped (I saw a few more puzzles beyond the ones shown here but not many)
At 7:42, Jessie's line about the photos being back to normal plays - you rewinding when the glitching started apparently skipped that segment.
This seems really similar to F-Stop ( Cancelled Portal 2 prototype )
Been watching this game for awhile. Buying it on next paycheck for pc.
Wait, is there actually non-Euclidean geometry in this? Like, where space has a non-zero curvature? I would have thought that the photo stuff and some portals would have been enough. ... making the photo feature work where there is spatial curvature seems like it would be *very* difficult
The level entrances actually behave like portals in Portal or Prey.
@@orijimi I’m not familiar with the portals in Prey, but if they are like the ones in Portal, or like in superliminal,
well, I did say “the photo stuff and some portals would have been enough” in a way contrasting with those *along with* non-Euclidean geometry.
(Portal is not an example of non-Euclidean geometry in the sense I meant it. For that you need something like hyperrogue or hyperbolica.)
Frank just streamed this game and said it needed more hot babes and guns.
only 2 minutes in and put it on my steam wishlist
siiick
oko but the dialogue is so cringe marvel tier it puts me off
The dialogue is fine. The narrative is pretty pathetic, though.
