Didn't know this game needed a "Fall Guys but with cars"-mode, but it sure does look sick!
I'm actually baffled that the success of rocket league didn't spawn a whole trend of "existing thing except with cars".
Just got my key tonight and can confirm this feels GREAT to play. Honestly the physics are satisfying enough as it is that I could see myself losing a fair bit of time to just this early version once the option for bot races is added.

This is the first I'm seeing of this game, and boy does this mode look like a blast. It's really tapping into that demolition derby feeling of trying to avoid/survive an emergent sea of chaos, while preserving the core racing-game fantasy of trying to thread the needle. I think there's a metric ton of potential here, and the fact that it already has a track editor means that this could just be one of many zany remixes waiting to emerge from the sandbox you've built.
I hope this doesn't come across as diminishing any of the work already done, because I'm sure it's been a lot, but please take it as a compliment that with "just" cars, ramps, and boxes, this is already really working as a concept; with a few more thoughtful additions, I think this game really has wheels (pun intended).
It would be hilarious if y'all actually did have Dunkey publish this through Big Mode.
"Find the fun" is a crucial part of early game development! You may think you have a good idea for a game, but the real fun is often found only after you have a prototype running, and you get to actually feel how the different parts play together. You might find that your original idea isn't all that interesting, but after a few tweaks you can run into something far more exciting. This video is a beautiful demonstration of this.
Really love how emergent the gameplay gets with just some ai and physics! the obstacles just kind of create themselves by cars ahead of you colliding and swerving as they try to do their own thing and bump into each other
I've been missing the play tests for a month or two now but it's a great fun time with people. This mode looks hilarious and just my jam.
It would reduce the chaos a little with each lap (which may or may not be fun) but it would be interesting to kill/explode the bottom 33% of cars after the majority finish the lap. That would make it more of a true battle royale or elimination game and add to the panic of trying to finish each lap. Maybe you could even leave the wreckage of the eliminated cars around to continue being an obstacle.
But then again, thinking about it, if you finish the first lap in 66th place, the likelihood you're going to make up 33 more places before the top 33 finish the lap is probably pretty slim.
This just needs the original destruction derby graphics, with triangles flying off of cars when you hit them. Then I'd sell my soul to own it
The horde-like gameplay is hilarious. I'm just picturing streamers playing this on insane, fan created tracks.
This seems like the kind of game that Dunkey's new company should publish.

This looks SENSATIONAL
Any racing game or game mode with insane traffic is always great chaotic fun
This mode would be great with a Wario Stadium (64) style jump next to the finish line that could knock you back ½ a lap if you miss
From Destruction Derby to Wreckfest, there's just something amusing about seeing a bunch of cars smash into each other while attempting to race.
Wreckfest is such a great multiplayer game, the fact you'll have the most fun if you don't win a race, makes it so easy to come back to.
If Wreckfest released a 100 car battle royale, I'd be totally for it.
This looks like fun. Maybe this mode could work without the winner necessarily being who finishes first. You want to feed the madness, so maybe the winner trophy is awarded to the person who gains the most points. Points are awarded for going through checkpoints, jumping over ramps, punching through boxes, knocking other cars off the track and final race position. Maybe have a debuff, where your points dynamically drop per second or so if you're off the track or miss a checkpoint, or a battle royale style timer where if you don't get back on track or hit a checkpoint by a certain time interval, you get disqualified. You could remove the disqualified players from the track, or, they remain on the track and have to attain a certain amount of points over a time interval to requalify and become a part of the race again.
The leader flag should definitely be a taxi or pizza delivery sign. It might be maybe too much "flavour" depending on the aesthetic you go for (if the current one isn't the final iteration). You could also put a light (like one of those spinny cop car lights) on all the cars and light up only the leader/top 3 or whatever.
Alternatively, am I the only one who likes the tension that not knowing who it is creates? Every car you pass becomes an adrenaline rush and I think it feels way better this way. I can see how some people would think it's frustating but... then again, it's a physics-based chaos simulator, frustration should 100% be embraced lol
This looks really fun! Nothing better than having a fun prototype that you get to iterate on. My mind was racing with ideas watching this and I look forward to seeing where you take it!
You should make a “2012 mode” where you and fellow racers must blaze through the course avoiding a ton of falling, sky scraper-sized block buildings. Roads breaking underneath you. Destruction all around.

Reminds Me a tiny bit of the old 8 player mode in the Amiga game Skidmarks - but with physics. And real 3D.
Seeing cars fully stuck in the middle of the pack at the beginning, I realized this game could use a jump button, a la Speed Racer, to escape.
I feel like you need to pitch this as a sort of "golf (drive) with your friends" spinoff. Looks like some dumb fun that lots of people would pick up if you are able to sell it at a low price. Community courses, mods, obstacles, etc, would make it a fun tool for mucking around in and making silly scenarios to test out with mates.
Thanks so much, yea the original idea of the project was to make something small that we could sell for like 5-10 bucks. It's gotten a lot more features since then, but that's still the general feeling. To make it accessible and with loads of tools and let people make their own stuff. We often reference Counter Strike 1.6 / Source public servers as inspiration for the type of vibe we're hoping to land on.

This looks super rad ever time y'all show it off! This mode actually looks like how I play Wreckfest - full grid, max damage, swerving past non-stop debris and just finishing at all feels like a victory.
For backmarkers, have you considered giving them a recolor? I would say give them a transparent ghost effect, but that usually implies no physics, and I would never suggest that for this game~ But reserving a pitch black color for backmarkers would make it easy to distinguish who you're trying to overtake vs. who you just need to avoid. Or maybe give them something like yellow and black caution stripes? play into the idea that they're hazards more than competitors to you, plus then it's something unique from what any normal player would have.
Speaking of, any thoughts yet on trying to integrate workshop support? I have a low poly geo metro model I already made for Sky Rouge that I would love to import in here. Plus, always have fingers crossed for custom skins. Put Hatsune Miku on one of these blocky bastards~
A interesting mode could be an actual zombie hoard mode, have the player start 20 ft ahead of 100 cars and have their tracking set to target the player while the player has to try to complete 3 laps in X amount of time

This survival mode seems very similar to wreckfest, because they do small tracks with 48 cars and 25 laps and by the end all but one car DNFs.
Style very much reminds me of TABG (Totally Accurate Battle Grounds), but with a racing/car theme instead.

Watching the game take shape is so cool, I love this project ! Don't you think that it is actually more fun that N°1 doesn't have a flag on their heads ? The moment when you were trying to figure out who was the winner was so fun ! You could imagine strategies emerging with players actually faking being in first place amongst bots. That actually got me to think that if this mode is made into something, a mix of real players and a ton of bots is perfect to create the chaos that you need around the actual race between real players. The dials just need to be put to 11 if possible, more bots, more cubes, more ramps etc, but I guess that is what you guys are working on !

I'd say don't try to force what's not working. I like single player, but if an interesting single player mode is not coming together, just focus on multiplayer.

The leader marker could be optional and/or a text (like "Car XYZ is the leader" or something), not knowing who you have to pass to win was kinda fun (at least from watching lol)
It'd be fun if you got a speed boost upon landing after a jump to incentivize you to risk going for them.

Hear me out: This mode but the bots have an added behavior where they try to crash into the player, or cause the player to crash into them.

Not trying to be purposefully antagonistic, but how does this fit in to the discussion you were having about Big Mode? Are there ethical questions about journalists making a game and selling it the same as with dunkey producing games? I don't think either is necessarily a problem but the other video seemed to skew that that entanglement is problematic.
