    Chris is a lot older than Megadeth. He was born in '57 which makes him an old school jazz guy. Same as Gar. I was lucky to see them on the Peace Sells Tour and they were amazing. The best lineup of Deth. Chris is the greatest guitarist I've ever heard other than Alan Holdsworth. The man is clear out of this world. And he's a natural self taught musician which are usually the best.

    • @reprintranch
      @reprintranch Před 2 lety +13

      Yeah, I'll take the Killing/Peace Sells line-up over any subsequent one. Poland had a unique approach to phrasing with those crazy-ass bends and flurries of jazz-inflected notes. And Gar Samuelson was in a class by himself. Monstrous instrumental talent. Mustaine hit a freakin' grand slam with those guys, even if they weren't the most reliable people.

    • @rushshukla4636

      @@reprintranch Yeah it's a shame. He had to fire them coz they were stealing his gear to buy smack. Luckily Chris got himself clean but Gar succumbed to liver failure due to all the drink and drugs he'd done over the yrs. Smack played a massive part in Megadeth formative years. Chris was actually asked back in 1990 but refused coz they were still doing smack and he was off it by then.

      @@WhyTheHorseface what are you talking about? There's a reason Poland doesn't have that many leads on the Peace Sells album, and it's Dave doing most of the solo's. Dave had most of the songs written before Chris even joined the band. Megadeth was a 3 piece when Poland saw them, they were performing like that. They had Kerry King sit in on some gigs before Chris ever joined the band. Chris was basically there to play rhythm while Dave solo'd. Go look at all the songs and look who does the solo's. The only song where Chris has more solo's then Dave is on Peace Sells, every other song is Dave doing most of the solo's. Dave was still in his lead guitar mode on those first two albums. People you'd expect to be paid a lot because they are metal superstars are criminally underpaid. I think Gene Hoglan, one of the all-time greatest drummers ever, makes like 400$ a show with Testament. Figure 20 shows a month, for a 3-month tour leg. That's 60 shows. That's 24 000$. Apparently Gar and Chris were selling guitars(Dave’s) and gear before shows to get their fix leaving them to scramble before the gig to even make it happen. I even read they were so fucked up at their own album release party for Peace Sells…. that they all got into a brawl in the back of a limo and Dave is quoted as saying he “kicked Chris in the face multiple times”. They were all completely out of control and I’m going to go out on a limb and say I don’t think any of them were thinking about tomorrow or saving for the future. I loved that lineup. He was spending probably twice that amount per week on slamming his arm with Heroin as he was a hard Heroin addict for as long as he was in Megadeth . I mean on top of that the guy basically stole , and pawned Megadeth instruments and gear just to feed his Heroin habit . Chris has a lot of balls to even compare Megadeth with the Circle Jerks . Megadeth were only a few years old at that point so 1.) they were making less despite growing more popular, 2.) they were signed to a record contract (not just mustaine, but all of them) and had to pay back the label, and 3.) the most profits they'd make, if any, were from touring and since they still weren't headlining a ton during the Peace Sells tour, it was next to nothing. They probably own the van and trailer and drive it themselves. Renting a bus and a truck and paying people to drive them would be much more expensive. Circle Jerks probably set up their own gear instead of paying people to do it for them which would also save a lot of money. Playing clubs as the headliner as opposed to playing arenas opening for another band puts a bigger percentage of the money earned from the show in your pocket.

All three guys were good friends that valued their relationship just as much as their music, and all three contributed equally to the music-making and production process. None of the three traded their relationship for more fame, but fame came their way anyhow. This is quite rare. More often it is one or maybe two people in the band that become the songwriters and thus defacto leaders of the band.

      this is the most idiotic statement I've read in the comments so far. Megadeth was only a few years old by the time Peace Sells came out and they still owed a ton of money to the record label so 90% of it probably went to the label with some going to the studio, venues, etc. You realize that just because Mustaine is the band leader doesn't mean he controls everything, right? He was just as broke in 1986 and 1987 as he was in 1982 and 1983 playing with Metallica. Plus, Poland has writing credits on the album so Dave couldn't even legally keep more profits if he wanted to.

      Chris was talking about profits from touring, not song royalties or profits from album sales, so apparently you didn't even watch this short video. So basically everything you stated above was wrong. Gotta love clueless fools who act like they know it all when they actually know nothing.
