  • In today's adventure, we're exploring the Greenmount Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland. It was founded in 1838 as a response to the overcrowded burial grounds in the city. Originally several miles outside of the city, it has since been swallowed up by the city's expansion. It became the final resting place for numerous notable figures, including John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of President Abraham Lincoln. Greenmount is known for its beautiful landscape and historic significance, serving as a burial site for both prominent citizens and Civil War soldiers, among other famous and notable individuals.

It’s been said that is NOT the gravestone of John Wilkes Booth, but it’s the foot stone of his sister Asia Booth. John Wilkes supposedly is buried in an unmarked area near the back of the plot.

Saw this post when you first published this and just watched again total poetic justice that John Wilkes Booth is now surrounded by a total African American community he’s probably rolling in his grave LOL Think his dad and brother were both abolitionists go figure. BTW his old boarding school in Sparks is right down the street from my house now the Milton Inn restaurant love your work Ian anticipate them every month

Thanks so much for the continued support, Joe! Great observation too about JWB not being surrounded by an African American community. I’m sure he’s not thrilled haha. Had no idea about the old boarding school in Sparks. I used to work up that way a number of years ago. Great area.

I'm not defending Booth, but based on the current state of Baltimore, I'd say John Wilkes Booth is smirking and thinking "told ya" 😏

@@afridgetoofar1818that is due to drugs. Booth wanted slavery. So no.

25yr Md resident. A lot of those abandoned row homes you can buy for like $1 but nobody wants them because Baltimore is absolutely dangerous. I would not drive around the city if you’re from out of town looking to explore it’s really not worth it
