Looks like it was given a bath of salty water to dry up in the sun like you do for those sugar stick candy, then got a sharpie and added a bit of blue

I have the same thoughts. The outer parts are terribly corroded, but the inner parts are in surprisingly good shape
It goes from a new to non mess. Everything else is no issue really. It's a trivial bit of pleasant diversion.

When something is that badly corroded or oxidized and it’s best to use some type of penetrating oil to remove it is a easily
Oh and one more thing whenever you were tapping on the bolt to get It to come out always leave the nut on that way when you’re tapping you don’t cause the head of the bolt to mushroom

I'm concerned about the paint/enamel on these antiquities are they lead based, you might want to wear a mask when dealing with them if they're pre 1960..
