This is the best video on the E70 X5 on the entire internet. You can't convince me otherwise. Thank you for making this. Great video.
Thank you for this video! It was so informative! I just bought this exact x5! Ive always wanted the e70 so I did some research before purchase. The valve cover was recently replaced as I knew that was a big job, had regular maintenance service records. I’ve taken it to 4 places to have it checked out in the 10 days I’ve had it, the final being bmw dealership and I did not know or was made aware of the additional parts and fluids I should be replacing as preventative maintenance until I came across your video and I’m so glad I did! Thank you so much!
Very glad I could help. Enjoy your X5!

Great review. Thank you
Thank you for this thoroughly informative piece.
You're very welcome!
my 2013 x5 is at 191k miles and going strong😄
I'm thinking on getting an x5 ... I haven't paid a mechanic in 20 years. Maybe I can tackle this suv's engineering. Got my eye on a 110,000 mile 2013 model. We'll see a bit more research...
Excellent review helped alot. Thanks!
Same I’m thinking also/ did get one?
@@hashfreshtodeath ended getting a one owner stepside 94 gmc sierra z71 4x4 260,000 miles. I've already replaced all sensors, around the engine, fuel pump, fixed most gremlins. Put new calipers, wheel cylinders, slotted and drilled disc brakes, new rear drums with new retaining hardware, master cilynder was new, fixed steering wobble, new distributor, wires and plugs, Put new headlights, turn signal and corner markers, tailights, wiper motor circuit board, new speakers and an android touch screen with GPS. Up next are power mirrors (I have to retrofit), go through the AC system, fix upholstery make a center console with 8inch sub woofers, tint side windows and fix the paint. Good for another 260,000 miles. Did all this for about $2800. And several weekends. Almost all parts are oem. Rest are better than the cheapest. I get compliments driving down the road. It is my daily and I will get the Beemer but not now. I'm happy with my choice I can fix anything on this thing without a scan tool. Worst case I drop in an intake with a carburator and I can keep it going. Got the truck for $4000. These hold their value and I can always get my money back when I'm ready to let it go.

Another thing I wanted to ask you Chris, is that are you located in the GTA by any chance? I saw the ON plates.
Just wondering if you have any recommended BMW shops, or do you work on your own BMWs for the most part?
I went to Columbus in Mississauga for the PPI I did with that '12 X5, and it was pretty good overall
Cheers!
Hi, thanks for your response. For the most part the N55 engine is very good but must be maintained. Do a good inspection or have a shop do it. Look for oil stains under the car. If they are present do not worry , just use that to negotiate a lower price. The gaskets fail and need to be replaced. That can cost thousands. I do 95% of my own work so I avoid this high costs. I am in the Hamilton area so I cannot recommend a good shop. The dealerships will do good work but they charge massive amounts of money for everything. Do an internet search of your area and then interview any potential repair shops. Ask to talk to existing customers and if that goes well start them with something simple like oil changes or spark plug replacements.
The AC in my car is not blowing cool air? Have replaced the sensor, compressor, condenser and filled up with 6 Freon cans. Any suggestions…to what can be going wrong.
Hi, I need to start with the simple questions. It the temperature set to the lowest setting in the cabin? Secondly could the cabin temperature control or module be malfunctioning?
Best review A+
Appreciated
Hi Chris, thanks for a great video, I own X5 35i xdrive E70, 2013 (M) with 73k Km ( 45625 miles) I bought one year ago. I already change the oil valve cover gasket and the front brakes pads. Do I have to change the brake fluid or the coolant? , what do I have to do in the Inspection?, do you recommend change something else?. Regards
Hi Alex, If you do not have any documentation, from the previous owner, that the brake fluid and coolant have been changed in the last couple of years, I would then change them and then you know you are properly maintaining the X5.
Great review thinking of getting one
You should!
did u get it ? im also looking for bmw x5 2013 3.0d
@@edonramadani8017 same
all issues are correct, but time for replacement coolant pump , housing gasket and others takes only 1 hour and not 6 hours or more.
WOW!. Never heard of anyone replacing an X5 water pump in 1 hour. I know BMW mechanics that can do it in a minimum of 2 hours.
That’s a clean engine
Could be cleaner LOL
Hi Chris...Iam looking at a 2013 x5 3.0l diesel with 100.000miles. Is that too much miles? I plan to keep it as long as possible
I think it would be a good investment is it was taken care of. Inspect the vehicle and ask about maintenance. Diesel engines are very good and the emissions on the X5's is acceptable.
I really wanted to get an E70 X5 35i, almost pulled the trigger the other day on a 2012, but ended up getting scared with the potential running costs for the supposedly more reliable N55. I can afford the costs to keep it on the road, but I really didn't want to deal with the potential headache and the added costs.
I was so close to pulling the trigger tho, an 2012 35i with M-sport pkg, sport seats, HUD, 360 camera, cinnamon interior with dark grey exterior, with 80k miles, selling for $14k Canadian Dollar, but needed about $4k in work, including a leaking oil pan, a spring, an inner tail light.
What scares me a bit tho is that the seller wasn't really honest with me with the accident claim, and initially refused to let me take it to my mechanic. Also, the HPFP, water pump and valve cover has never been replaced, and will probably need to be replaced down the road.
I think I will have to make the more sensible decision and pick up a 2nd gen MDX for now. If I go for the facelift models, I can get some pretty nice tech as well including adaptive cruise, ventilated seats, etc. also it will have 3 row seating with the SH-AWD.
My friend has a Honda Pilot with 350k+ KMs with just regular maintenance.
It's unfortunate since I really did want an E70, but it's a shame BMW couldn't make the N55 a bit easier to service, and run a bit cooler so stuff like the valve cover, and oil gasket wouldn't be such a big issue with heat degradation of materials and seals etc, it's just not financially responsible for me atm
Excellent and thorough review tho! It would really help potential buyers of the E70 know what they are getting themselves into, both the positives and negatives of this great SUV!
Impressive the way he was quoting specs without reading it..also excellent review
i'm looking to buy 2011 BMW X5 i35 it has only 43k miles on it the car looks like new inside and outside is this a good choice lol because i'm having hard time to believe this person drove only 3k miles a year carfax says it's one owner vehicle and says milage is correct they are asking for $12.500 usd
Do not focus on the mileage. Focus on the condition of the car. Do a thorough inspection of the entire vehicle to look for potential problems. If you need to get a mechanic to inspect it. If maintenance like gaskets, etc. were not done yet. Confront the owner and negotiate that price down.
extended car warranty are good with these?
A properly maintained vehicle is more important. Ask the hard questions before you buy.
