29 SQUADRON PILOT LEADS THE WAY • RAF TYPHOON DISPLAY PILOT PRACTICES SEQUENCES WITH ZJ914 BLACKJACK

- On the 28th May 2021, Typhoon ZJ914 was revealed to the world with a new shakedown livery, famously known as Blackjack. Flt Lt James Sainty not only took Blackjack for the maiden flight, but took our Sqn Ldr Ted Coningsby on the maiden flight too! This is Blackjack's final year as she is an old airframe, a Tranche 1 and will be retired at the end of this year. This is Turbo's display from the 8th April 2024.
This year’s RAF Typhoon Display pilot is Flt Lt David ‘Turbo’ Turnbull. We normally expect to hear callsign ANARCHY1 when it comes to the RAF Typhoon display pilot, however, this year, the display pilot's callsign is "TURBO"! Well, if there was a callsign available that had your nickname, you’d surely take it. The callsign is actually from RAF LOSSIEMOUTH’S 6 Squadron and Turbo has borrowed it from them for the year which mean 6 Squadron are without this callsign.
Flight Lieutenant David "Turbo" Turnbull is this year's RAF Typhoon Display pilot and he has already produced a particular sequence that will wow the crowds. The slow aileron roll into the max alpha is a signature manoeuvre from Turbo! He is becoming one of the best Typhoon display pilots of all time. With a hard deck of 100ft, let's ride!

Incredible Turbo and we can proudly announce that Turbo has been awarded his Pilot PDA and he’s totally earned it. He can now wow the crowds at Airshows and festivals. It is always about inspiring and showing off the capabilities of the aircraft. This is the true reasons for airshows. It allows other countries to see what an aircraft can do (creates new work and employment when a country purchases aircraft) but also to inspire our future generations of pilots (young or old). Turbo, Sainty and others alike were once inspired to become a fighter pilot thanks to an airshow. How many will he inspire? This is what it’s all about. What inspired you to like aviation? Oh yes, Blackjack looking amazing against the grey skies and in control the Legend that is ''Turbo"!! bringing the screen too life. 😄 Almost learnt entire display now😀 sublime control shown at the hands of the now PDA! Approved and Certificated RAF display pilot. Your skill is evident every moment here.
