- Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which one has chronically elevated glucose in their blood.
Family history, poor diet, being obese and having a sedentary lifestyle put you at a higher risk of #diabetes
If you are #prediabetic ( someone with a high risk of type 2 Diabetes) or suffering from type 2 diabetes your primary goal is to increase insulin sensitivity.
Here are a few tips to increase insulin sensitivity and, therefore, effectively prevent/manage diabetes:
✅️Balanced meals : Make sure to add fiber and protein to your carbs and also make sure your meals are within range of your calorie budget .
✅Exercise: Training a muscle helps in increasing insulin sensitivity at the muscle site.
✅Reduce weight : You are not obese because you are insulin resistant, you are insulin resistant because you are obese .. reduce 10% of your body weight if you are overweight/obese
✅Manage Stress : Chronic stress increases insulin resistance. Therefore, look for ways that help you manage stress well like meditation, walks, playing sports, reading, journaling etc
✅Regular check ups : Effective management of diabetes is a team effort between the person with diabetes and their doctor .
