"Jumpin' Jive" (also known as "(Hep-Hep!) The Jumpin' Jive") is a famous jazz/swing composition, written by Cab Calloway, Frank Froeba, and Jack Palmer. Originally recorded on 17 July 1939.
#CabCalloway #NicholasBrothers #JumpinJive - Hudba
This is one of, if not *the* best dance scenes in film history. I never get tired of watching it.
Me neither, although I do wince at the splits in the steps every time!😂
Makes my eyes water!
I heartily concur !!
Done in 1 take!!.. The jumps at the end completely improvised, although in the interview I watched about this, admittedly one brother (I forget which) said, he was bruised a bit a few days after..Mind boggling, the Athleticism and talent of these two brothers
Not one take, there are seven breaks in the filming: But the dancers were so good that that they were able to go back and repeat the same moves so that they could be edited together and you can hardly see the breaks. Here's where they happen:
1:44-2:06; 2:06-2:30; 2:30-3:16; 3:16-3:30; 3:30-3:38; 3:38-4:00; 4:00-4:35.
Also, they must have been joking about the jumps being improvised, the entire set was built for that, plus the jumps corresponded exactly with the already-recorded music.
I normally don’t enjoy watching dancing but this goes beyond normal dance and I love it!
@@susankennedy5739 I believe it was 892 takes....the boys retired the following day!
Or went directly for hip replacements!@@habsom1406
Even if you don't notice the cuts, you can easily see that they are never out of breath -- even at the end.
Now this is what I'd like to see for my Superbowl half time show! Real talent.
Sorry, all you get is pretty faces with mediocre voices.
wow, you’re so cool and different for liking old things over modern things 😍😍😍😍😍
@@primroseprom thanks, that's exactly why I like old stuff, to get the approval of idiots on yt comments section.
@@tommytalks77 mf i would not be here if i didn't also like old shit. but y'all are the reason why mfs don't like people who prefer old shit. cause y'all act like you're so much better than everyone else because your favorite song is prehistoric.
cunts like the person i responded to, who make their entire personality based around the fact that they don't listen to any music past a certain decade, are some of the most insufferable bitches i've ever met.
they're the reason why normal people who just like old music have to make the distinction that they *also* like modern music or, if they don't, that they still consider modern music "real music." because 9/10 times, when you hear a bitch say, "oh i love old music so much!" the next sentence out of their mouth is sure to be them bashing modern shit.
Amen!
The picture quality of this number is so sharp. I feel like im in the moment with them.
This needs to be preserved forever.
Deep respect for these great artists, creating magic under absurdly challenging circumstances.
"Such concentration and great musicianship"!😊
They had undying admiration from every other dancer in Hollywood for their sheer genius and gravity defying moves! Even here in 2023 this stands as one helluva amazing routine!
Unbelievable real talent like this cannot be duplicated….no special effects, no fancy lights & , lasers, no CGI, just real authentic talent. I agree with other commenter we need to see people with skills like this, not only during halftime Super Bowls, but everywhere else! If there is any talent like this that exists on the planet, I want to move there 😁.
Forget it. No one does this today.
No stunt doubles either
I absolutely love this stuff! My mum recently called me an "80 year old lady trapped in a 34 year old woman's body"...I guess she's right. This clip just makes me wanna get up and shake a tailfeather! Long live Cab!
And now i believe you're a 92 year old lady trapped in a 46 year old womans body.
I’m dancing in the kitchen making eggs and coffee!
I imagine you've tracked down all the Nicholas Brothers videos.
They dance to a "Chattanooga Choo Choo" number that's out of this world.
This scene brings a smile to my face also.
@@gildedpeahen876eggs on the jersey side?!!:)
The greatest dance sequence in cinema history
Now this is REAL entertainment and this is REAL talent 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
OH YEAH!
Cab Calloway, his orchestra plus the incomparable Nicholas Brothers. Enough said!
Without question, THE greatest dancers in the history of entertainment!! And Cab Calloway/Cotton Club was the center of the universe for black entertainers. What a great period in music!!
There is more talent in this 5 minute clip than in all of the 21st century so far-
I doubt there's anyone today that could be the Equal of the Talent assembled for this Phenomenal One Take Shot! Cab Calloway is an ICON and The Nicholas Brothers were "Super Human" Dancer/Athletes!!! Oh yeah, I didn't forget that fantastic "Big Band."
Amen to that! LOL.....
"There is more talent in this 5 minute clip than in all of the 21st century so far-"
Hahahaha.....so true!
even as someone who tends to prefer older music, i dont think its kind or fair to diss all modern music when there is genuine talent, just in a different way than these guys
Basically what I'm trying to say is: you can enjoy older music without dissing ALL modern music
that being said yeah this is amazing
Named my son Nicholas after the amazing dancing brothers
CC is the coolest cat that ever lived!
AMAZING! We may never see this kind of talent again. Beautifully restored.
Exactly 80 (eighty) years ago, on JULY 21 ... 1943, a film "STORMY WEATHER" appeared on the cinema screens at that time.
There are many songs on the soundtrack of this film, the most famous being "Jumping Jive" performed by Cab Calloway (you can also see it in the famous film "The Blues Brothers" from 1980) and his "Cotton Club" orchestra. . . . there was on the time when the singer came to the filming with his own VOICE (NOT processed in the studio and recorded on tape), and the members of the orchestra knew their instruments perfectly (NOT processed electronically on the computer).
But this movie "Stormy Weather" remained forever in the history of cinema for the incomparable dance performed by "The Nicholas Brothers". . . . and the sequence with the dance of the NICHOLAS brothers being considered by many dancers and choreographers to be in the first 3 places in the entire history of films of this kind.
If you were impressed by the dance of the NICHOLAS brothers. . . give LIKE and then SHARE to other friends.
Twas Minnie the Moocher that Cab did in Blues Brothers, his most famous song And the first ever record by a black performer to top a million sold.
The whole or orchestra ,dancing , music ,and singing is great .thank you.
I first thought this may be partly computer generated...I now realize it is pure talent and I am still amazed! WOW!
OMG I've got a broken hip from just watching them doing the splits after jumping over each other coming down the stairs 😱 😂 and then they just slide back up 😱 incredible love them 🥰
Cab Calloway the Original King of COOL.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤
I've never seen this so sharply and clearly! Digital technology can do some amazing things.
These guys didn't squander their youth playing games on xbox or play-stations! Amazing stamina and discipline. Phew, I need an osteopath just watching!
And a truss
Holy Shit! I just can't get enough of Cab Calloway & Nicholas Brothers. They were something special! Just breathtaking! No matter how many times I have watched this number, it still blows my f&^%$#g mind!!
Entertainment
&
Inspiration the Good Right Way.
Cab, Harold and Fayard at the height of their powers!
I cant get over how totally amazingly talented those brothers were
Their talent and art never duplicated to this day!
100% PERFECT!!!! There will NEVER BE this PERFECTION AGAIN. PERIOD!
Could you imagine being extras in the cast for this? One of the most entertaining and talented cast of folks ever in one room; from the cinematographers, to Cab, the twins the band etc. Would have been phenomenal.
On an aside, that dude on the sax was really trying hard to not get blasted in the head lol
Not twins.
Not twins, and that sax player wasn't sweatin a thing. Those dancers coulda done black flips on nickles floating over hot lava.
Dancers today can only dream of that kind of talent. Michael Jackson got a lot of his material from these guys. BRAVO to Cab and the Nicholas Bros.
Do you think MJ knew who they were when he was starting out?
@@stuartperry8141 MJ was a student of theirs. So was Janet.
All listed are great. I would only pray and hope….of course, Mr. Jackson did know! Otherwise, he would not have been doing his own job/talent well! And he danced well, too. No one, though, can compete with these brothers. Truly, just remarkable, unforgettable performances. What does one say? I am honestly honored to see this famously known performance. I pray that our children see this. Just perfect. Great dancers, singers, musicians, actors, directors….Cheers! Wow! Really, great performances from all of these men. Thank you. Truly, all of whom were are named here (including, Mr.Jackson in the video, as I think his name was brought by discussion), are just remarkable in their talent and their performances. Wow!
I could not stand any of the personalities, though. Disgusting men in real life. They say to never meet your heroes’. I WILL Never forget how they treated their women. So disappointing. So very disappointed. Anyway….Desiree “Desi” O’Neill
@@stuartperry8141of course he did. I knew who Cab was in first grade and I wasn't in showbiz and had no mind to be.
This is just classic! The music and the AMAZING dancing is timeless! I am always blown away by this video! Such a gift that keeps giving! Bravo!
Look at these wonderful talented, handsome, well groomed and happy men of music !! What the heck happened ???
We forgot to dance, sometime -- maybe in the 1970s? -- and it shows.
Guys like Elijah Muhammad and E. B. Dubois convinced them that the way to improve race relations was to protest instead of developing their God given talents.
What happened? All of us fans, and potential fans got lucky when Cab Calloway came on the scene!
😮 white people
black culture happened
When I watch the Nicholas Brothers dance, I almost can't believe what I'm seeing. They're like Superman times 2!
For sure!
From a modern day Canadian: outstanding!! ✊🇨🇦
What amazing artists and athletes! The Nicholas Brothers were some of the best tap dancers who ever set foot on the stage. I loved watching these guys whenever they were on television. ✨💖✨
No one was cooler than Cab Calloway.
Unbelievable that it only has 457 thousand views, people are missing out.
These artists are truly GREAT! They are almost all perfect in this performance (only Jesus Christ was and is perfect). I mean, I am humbled and truly honored to be able to see this performance. Again, just so great! Thank you for posting this! Thank you. Thank you. Desiree “Desi” O’Neill
Those are some pretty dangerous stunts with them dancing on the tables with the band!
Amazing clean up of the original film. True performance!
Oh my! I log on to this every few weeks just to watch what must be, flat-out, the best dance routine ever. I cannot think of anything that comes close.
OMG!!❤ A total miracle that humans can fly & land like them!!❤ God bless their souls & memories!❤ The Nicholas Brothers!
One take!!!
With a live audience.
With a live band.
The talent is incredible.
Right? I'm blown away
The Health and Safety inspector would have a field day if you tried these shenanigans nowadays😂
Not true
The Nicholas Brothers were one of a kind incredible & defied gravity!
Wow, the clarity is so good that I thought is was a modern parody until I saw Cab himself!!!
Cab Calloway was and still is unique. I wish I could have seen him while he was still alive!
Unreal. High quality production and full restoration. So lucky we captured this performance for the ages.
Wow! Wow! the audio and video is SO clear….incredible….so too the insane talent and artistry in this clip
what is more amazing that every renowned performing arts school studies this performance in depth
Go and say to to a youngster of today at his 20's he has to dance like this, sing like this, and jump and fall like this to earn money. Good Luck.
The charisma in that room would blow the roof off!
Each time I watch it Amazed! In future we can see lots of people after them imitate a lot. Also the energy and views and emphasis on the musical performers as equally important seems to have been lost. Such energy every player, singer, dancer had...including the audience. Yes the audience compared to many dress up audiences today 🎉❤
STILL such a stunning performance!
Yes, 80 years ago.
Truly Iconic Music & Dancing !! Thanks for sharing this Awesome and Amazing Footage !!
Thank God for this film ! This dance would be impossible for anyone to do today three minutes into it when they jump off the piano and land in the splits ? Impossible for even the best out there today . Thank You God For The Nicholas Brothers and may you bless their souls . Amen
One of the best dance routines ever put to film! And the Nicholas Brothers were still doing it in the 1970s! I remember seeing them on the Jackson 5 Variety Hour.
No one dances like this anymore! The way these guys moved-- my jaw literally dropped when they performed the splits on the giant stairs! Too much special effects and glitz these days. This dance number was pure talent and a joy to watch!
i want to live in 30's
It’s an explosion of talent. Wow!
I'm introducing my dog to Jazz tonight. He's young, and I want him to appreciate this.
My cat appreciates Jazz. He's a cool cat.
@@jeffreyromain7336 hep cat.
This will never be TOPPED!!
Epic. The musicians are fabulous too.
I'm still sitting here after the video ended in stunned silence. JAWDROPPING !!
There is NO WAY anyone could ever create a machine that could dance to compare with the Nicholas Brothers! As athletic as the most highly paid football or basketball or baseball player you could name.
01:42 I love how Cab turns the act over to the Nicholos Brothers with such talent and class, exiting the scene!
Música de una era dorada en ser siempre recordada.
Those sure were the days! ❤❤❤
They did that in one take 😱❤️❤️❤️
And I feel lucky if I can walk across the room without tripping over my own feet
The whole movie of STORMY WEATHER is wonderful, just one great performer after another. Got it in my permanent DVD library! Fats Waller, Cab, Fayard and Harold, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Lena Horne, Dooley Wilson.....how can you go wrong? What a movie!
Amazing quality! I can't stop watching and listening to Cab Calloway!
Legends in this performance! ❤
Thank you, Joe Jackson, for teaching me this song! This performance is out of this world!
the Nicholas bros were badass dancers
INCREDIBLE ARTISTS, CAB CALLOWAY THE NICHOLAS BROTHERS AND THE MUSIC GROUP, ITS EXTRAORDINARY from France !!!
This is what we need today ❤❤❤
Now that's what they call entertainment. I was one too late and missed out on all this stuff, one shame. Looks like you're having a lot of fun doing this song and the Nicholas Brothers are fantastic
Loved it all! I'm always amazed when watching the Nicholas Brothers. They had a lot of strength and stamina, and their moves were awesome!
Thank you for uploading this...makes me wish I had a time machine...LOL
Pure talent, unlike the garbage present in TV and radio today.
Nicholas brothers Forever!!!
How can be possible 15 years ago and 4K quality?
Yea I'm wondering that too. My other question is why does it look like it's been remastered with AI..
I'll never forget you Nicholas Brothers... Under my watch, I'll strive to make sure your inspiration and talent never dies. It's too amazing to forget.
Nothing more to say than ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC !!!
Okay. This is a perfect performance. It just is perfect. Desiree “Desi” O’Neill
Outstanding. Now THAT's entertainment!
Beautiful! Full of wonderful moments!
I love Cab and the Nicholas Brothers.
Americana at its finest!
And they love the jive. Só do I!
Them brothers were incredible!
Now that’s entertainment!!!
Phew! I'm out of breath just watching this!
What an absolutely glorious era, back when the World and the American Dream were alive and well.
Omg. Musical genius. Through and through.
Nicholas Brothers were the best and they were self-taught with no outside help from "big money". When asked who was better, Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, the answer was almost always, "The Nicholas Brothers!"
Cab Calloway had the magical charm which drove the machine which was one of the best orchestras in the world, then and now.
Jo Jones (later known as Papa Jo Jones) isn't even mentioned here! One of the best drummers, ever! Kinda hard to do all that dancing without the ignition system of the engine. He even had his perpetual smile and charm as a young man.
they need to bring this back!
Cab Calloway is a hep cat, hep hep!
Sheer talent.
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE: THIS NEEDS TO BE ON THE BIG SCREEN
It was on the big screen! The movie Stormy Weather was in the theaters in 1943.
Fantastic footage (and “leg-age”) with amazingly crisp video.
Cab Calloway is so cool.
Simply majestic
This man invented COOL, everyone else has been playing catch up ever since!
Cab Calloway the 🐐🥰
Those two guys are STRONG !
Fire are the Nicholas Brothers
