- Abandoned McDonald's - New Philadelphia, OH. Today we check out this old McDonald's that closed years ago. You may recognize this location from watching That Nate Guy On CZcams doing a couple of videos from here years ago. In 2021, it still stands completely vacant.

I proposed to my wife in that McDonald's 35 years ago. Not sure how long it's been closed. Can't recall. Thanks for the video.
Lived in Phila all my life. thank you for documenting this. Had my childhood birthday parties there. The train was for parties. been closed for about 4-5 years my wife and i had some of our first dates there. Thanks again for giving me the ability to look back in the future.
10th like
I used to go there as a kid all the time! It had the coolest play place
The train was used explicitly for birthday parties, when it was still used when I was growing up. And the front area of the building was the play place area, prior to that front area being built and enclosed that area was an outside play place.
I miss McDonalds and Burger King back in the early 2000s when they were crazy colors and felt like fast food chains not futuristic unhappy chains
The modern shoebox architecture of every fast-food chain is the same, a grey box with windows. Back then, each building was unique and had character (such as the Spanish-Mission style Taco Bells and the red roof Pizza Huts).
@@christiangonzales7429 I agree. There's nothing distinctive about these restaurants anymore. In my area, Burger King seems to be going away slowly. There are two closed burger kings on my daily work commute. They are still in use, but haven't been changed much. One has housed a couple of different restaurants since closing; a po-boy restaurant and a seafood restaurant. Never ate at either so I can't comment. The other has since been the home of 2 used car lots! As for Pizza Hut, in my area, Pizza Huts have transformed from dine in place to carry out and delivery only now. Most of the red roof buildings are gone too. One of the red roof buildings was kept but painted completely white and now houses an Indian restaurant. Another has since housed a Cajun/Mexican fusion and a burger restaurant. It now houses a pawn shop! There are also still a few of the Spanish Mission Style Taco Bells around, also housing po-boy restaurants. Every place will soon look the same, and it's very unfortunate.
@@redstickham6394 I agree with you a million percent on all of this. The shoebox designs that almost all of these restaurants use is taking over, and they will be bland, characterless boxes. I looked up that Burger King that became Verizon and it looks identical to my neighborhood BK prior to its remodel, which is still open. The Spanish mission Taco Bells are even more rare than the red roof Pizza Huts; I can't find one still open anywhere near me. They've been converted to a plethora of different things; there is one active red-roof Pizza Hut near me but they painted the roof grey AND they replaced the trapezoid windows with full-sized square ones. Yum Brands obviously does not care about the brand's heritage!
They are modern looking to make poor people feel better about eating fast food it’s a marketing tactic
Hmm
Love the upload. Feels like I'm hanging out with a friend going to explore cool abandoned businesses and buildings.
Thank you! That means a lot. I just try to be myself on camera.
From one Pennsylvanian to another, thank you for the content. Keep up the good work man!
One of the greatest channels on CZcams 👍😀
Yes, Wallie and Kayla have a great CZcams Channel!
AMEN
Thank you for the kind words!
@@WallieB26 You're welcome!
I agree love the channel.
Thanks for coming to my hometown and documenting this time in history! I used to have my birthday parties here all the time as a kid in the train.
There was one time I spent an entire day with my friends at the play place and ate breakfast, lunch and dinner there! Thankfully, I’ve changed my lifestyle and don’t eat like that anymore 😂
Thanks again!!
i appreciate when people record things like this for the history of it
This takes me back in the day when the McDonald's used to look like this. Great 80's memories. I liked the old architecture with the block construction and the roof. It probably had a play area too.
You got to love the new location. Wendy's, Arby's, McDonald's & Burger King all in a row in New Philadelphia, Ohio.
This was my favorite McDonalds growing up. It had the best playroom, with a huge gray slide and a rope bridge. And that train was so fun! I had a bday party in their basement once when I was a kid. I miss that place, i really don't understand why it closed.
Cool to see you check this out. I live close to there. There were 3 McD's in the Dover/New Philadelphia area. They kept the New Philly Boulevard (4th Street) and the Dover interstate exit ones open. This one was hard to make a left out of there when traffic was busy. The front was a playland and the kitchen window with the tiles, they were like a pilot store for pizza a bunch of years ago and it had a sign about it in the window. You had the drive thru flow correct. Cheers!
They used to have birthday parties in the caboose in the 80's! They made pizza in the side room that had the black and white tiles Happy memories in that McDonald's!
Yes and the pizza was delicious.
Plot Twist : Eddie Lampturd owns New Philly and shuts down any place to eat if he knows YOU are coming to town. The Lampturd Revnge Against Wallie tour continues unabated...lol
Used to eat on the train years ago! Thank you for capturing this bit of history. Very cool!
Nice Video Wallie, There is a vintage abandoned McDonald's near Richmond, VA.
It closed January 8th 2017. They own a couple other McDonald’s in the area that they remodeled.
Is this one near a Walmart? I worked on a McDonald’s in New Philadelphia and Dover back in 1995. Wondering if this is one I worked on?
@@jefferyepstein9210 Yes Walmart is a couple of blocks down the street on Bluebell Drive.
@@Condorsat10
I remember that the Walmart had parking for the Amish horse and buggy’s definitely a strange site to a city guy like me!!!

Nobody crosses her and gets away with it 😈
They used to have birthday parties in the train, I had one there in kindergarten.
Great video, so many old structures are disappearing. It's so sad to see the old inside of this McDonald's. IT was thriving at one time. Some teenage kids got their first job here. Thank you for doing this.
I worked here for a short time right after high school, 2001! 😁
Nice! did they have the train back then too? If so, do you know why they had a walkway going to it?
@@christiangonzales7429 they had the train but i was only there for a few weeks never saw that walkway 😂
@@Tailwhip222 that train and the walkway were certainly the highlight of this place. Never seen anything like that before for a fast food place!
@@christiangonzales7429 They used to have birthday parties in the caboose in the 80's! They made pizza in the room that had the black and white tiles Happy memories in that McDonald's!
@@sarahschmidt2413 That's really cool!! I would love to have had my own birthday there as a kid. Heck, I'd love to celebrate my birthday there now with only my closest friends and family!! Rent the entire caboose out specifically for that.
It was a great video, WallieB26! ❤😘👍 Thank you so much!
Thank You for Your Enjoying Awesome Video Wallie.
Nice Wallie thank you for sharing 👍
Good point about preservation...but I, for one, will not miss seeing these buildings - I view them as a blight on the landscape.
That's awesome.. Thanks for sharing... 😊 I agree videoing history
Love your channel Wallie always have been a huge fan of yours! Great find btw love abandoned McDonald's especially old style ones
Another great one down in the books, appreciate the content!
My Grandma used to take me here all the time! the playplace was always the best part lol
In Champaign Illinois we still have one look like this one
As much as most of us want to see you go inside some these places, I appreciate you being respectful and following the rules. Not doing stupid stuff or making a mockery like other CZcamsrs had.
This should not be a surprise. That was a MCD with a basement that they have not built since the 70's. At some point the maintenance get so extensive it is not worth keeping. In that time, the traffic patterns and neighborhood has likely changed. Chances are it was replaced with another new one down the street.
Nope It was not replaced by a new one It was hard to get in-and-out with the stop lights being right there. Along with having an aldi's and other stores close by.
There's a still-operating 70's style McDonald's in Latham, NY - I liked it! Brought back memories!
I wonder where? I live south of Latham in Greene County (yup, welfare county of NY), but have been going back up to Latham again. That area had changed drastically!
Great video, Wallie, you explained the place very well! Sorry you couldn’t get any food there, and it isn’t good to see another business closed. It was cool of you to respect the no trespassing sign. Have a great evening! 🌛
We use to have a train theme McDonald's here in Pennsylvania. They tore that one down and rebuild a modern one.
The playplace was the best here
Thank you so much for sharing this great video it was very entertaining as I am a rail enthusiast from Australia that seeing the old style wooden caboose.
Never in my life seen an abandoned McDonalds! What?!
This was a rare and cool find, Wallie! I'm in Houston, and there is a similar abandoned McDonald's near me that was converted to a small car dealership. I believe the first window you looked into was the former Playplace. I like how they had solarium-style windows between the main dining room and the Playplace, even more rare!
There’s a Burger King that was converted to a… Verizon store?!!!? In Cape May Court House NJ. And right next door is a still-in-business McDonald’s. You can guess which fast food restaurant succeeded and which one hadn’t.
@@TrentonDashcam There's a Burger King on the my work commute that's now a used car dealership. There's another on my commute that's also been two 2 different restaurants since it closed. There are a couple of others my city that have housed other restaurants.
Two things. One, your first sentence of this video was amazing & two, you should have way more subscribers! Your videos are phenomenal!
Aww! Thank you!!! I appreciate the kind words!
Right down the road from me. It's been closed for years and years. It wasn't a bad joint. Always real clean, very friendly staff. Least, when I was a kid.
Thanks for sharing wallie you dont see a roof in a drive-thru at a mcdonald`s wow this is so awesome thanks again buddy :D
Back in the mid 80s this was the place to have your kids birthday party. They were held in the train cars and you would get one character from McDonalds *usually Hamburgler to hang out at the party. They also had a putt putt golf course and a couple kiddie rides. In the front of the main building was the play place with slides and computer game boxes. Thanks for sharing.
I live in New Philly & it’s neat to see the McD’s on your channel!
Awesome video man
Omg WallieB26 you can't find food again your funny 😂😂😂
Thank you.. Love the channel
That person with the bad brakes can't afford new ones because he spends too much on SBXs. HAHAHAHAHAHA
I was thinking the same thing! 😂😂😂
I love your Lack of Food rants ❤❤
The McDonald's in North Versailles PA had a caboose that could be reserved for birthday parties and that location had a basement as well. After heavy fire damage the current one with a gas station was built at the N.V. location.
The original McDonald’s restaurant building in Coshocton, Ohio was built like this and it also had a basement and they also had a slide where they unloaded stuff. The original building has been torn down and it is now a shoebox design McDonald’s.
Great video Wallie! Don’t see these everyday anymore
Good video! Wallie! I have never seen to many abandoned MacDonald's places! I have never seen one with a caboose like that, not in my area(WNY)!
I love the old McDonald's .
Ouch! That must have hurt! lol good video :)
Only "traditional" looking McDonalds with that particular roof design I still see in operation is the one off of Baseline in Boulder CO. Considering how quickly the "McCondos" and other modern developments are creeping in up there, I'm surprised it's still retained its classic image.
The same goes for Arby's that have the tall hat sign outside their buildings. I know of one in Denver, near 44th and Sheridan.
My grandparents lived close by to that McDonald's. I remember when it was built. I'm wanting to say some time in the early 70's was when it went in. Not sure how long it's been closed.
Awesome video 👍
The one dislike is the person with the loud brakes.
Recently read an article on the first McDonald's drive thru. The location was near a military base on Arizona
Good job wallie
I use to work there. It was the first one in our area, and was falling apart the owner didn’t want to fix it and instead just built new ones.
Great video !!!!! I haven't seen a McDonald's like that in Jersey in a while. Also, you can send Sheetz to New Jersey anytime you like. Kind of boring with just Wawa here.
I think also Richard Wolf did this one also on his channel
I've had a few birthday parties on that train! Ot used to be so well put together. It's sad how best up its gotten from being neglected since it got shut down.
ive never seen an abandoned mcdonalds.cool video.
I absolutely hate the bistro style McDonald's buildings. They are tacky and boring looking and the food has seriously declined over the last 20 years.
Windmills are not only eyesores but when they rust out they are usually abandoned and then fall
I remember my cousin having her birthday party in that caboose when we were kids. It’s only been closed for about 10 years or so because it was a nightmare trying to get out of that lot. I remember stopping there to get food when I worked midnights at one of the nearby motels.
Where is it located
Thanks Wallie, hope you have a good dinner.😋
The drive thru area reminds me of a bank.
That's got to be the longest drive thru entrance I've ever seen.
There is a McDonalds, that looks EXACTLY like that in Manahawkin NJ on route 72 west. It's been dormant for about 5 years. We used to go there for breakfast every weekend. It's still there today, next to a big WAWA.
Legend says that the ghost of a rejected happy meal toy is still lingering in there
Welcome to the support group for discarded Fun Meal Toys!
The front of that McDonald was definitely a "Playplace" with a ball pen and other play equipment.
God I remember this location me my brother's would go there with our grandma and I drive past it every time and I think of the good memories there that location has been closed for 6 or 7 yeas so it's been awhile the reason for its closure is there is a McDonald's in Dover Ohio and there is a McDonald's down the road from that one one its on the street Boulevard so I see why this one closed because it was to close to another location the dover and the one in New Philadelphia are still open they are owned by the same person along with the closed one but very rare to see an old McDonald's like this especially a closed one
Sounds like the rivets on the pads are hitting the rotors. Yeah that person driving that car really needs to replace their pads.
At this point they definitely needed to replace the rotors too! I will guarantee they are scored like crazy!
@@WallieB26 oh yeah, I've seen where they'd just burn the pads right off and you still have trouble braking. Shame you can't turn the rotors like you could in the older days. It's tough when you have no money but brakes are needed to stop your car safely. I mean you can downshift and drive on the shoulder of a road to stop but that's really just for emergencies. Then I have a hand brake that I used when my rotted brake lines gave out.
Awesome vid and the fryer at mine decided to spill oil everywhere
i live in denver, and when i was a kid in the 80's, one of the mcdonalds restaurants in our area, had a train caboose, they used it to have kids birthday parties in, my sister did it once it was a good time.
It was so hard to get in and out here. They had a retro pop machine to. It closed in 2017
Is that a McDonald’s Foam cup!?!? Bring back Foam!!
my mother hated the foam mcdonald’s cups and would always ask for a plastic one because her car’s cup holders would sometimes tear the bottom off the foam cup when she went to take a drink from it
that is an odd drive thru but apparently worked out good, i also like the caboose, i always thought a caboose would make a cool house thanks for the video
I used to go to this McDonald’s as a kid. You could eat in those Train areas. There was outdoor seating all through there. They also used to sell McDonald’s pizza there too. It was a really awesome place to go.
That's awesome! You're cute btw
Love your channel brother. Its safe I used to mow and fertilize there
I live close to there I was told it was hard to get in and out of this place and business fell badly so it was closed
I use to work there til they closed few years ago. The roof was falling in. The order screen was in the back right as it started to turn.
There is a closed Burger King near where I live, three other restaurants have gone into the place since the BK closed and each of them failed, when it was a Burger King I ate there a lot because it was so close to where I lived and I knew then that its days were numbered because you could tell it was underperforming due to the lack of business. A few years ago the building went up for auction due to unpaid taxes and either nobody bid or the bids were not high enough and it still sits there empty and unused, does not even have a for sale sign on it.
I've always wanted to go into there. I used to eat there when I was younger
McDonald's often have a basement storage area, with freezers, dry goods storage, laundry, and sometimes offices or training rooms. The stairs shared with a conveyor belt is also common. What is VERY unusual is seeing the stairs and conveyor outside the building. I've never see that before. Usually that storage basement is supposed to be super secure because it's usually where the frozen meat is stored. And that's a huge theft target, believe it or not. So having direct outside access is insane. Yeah there's nothing like Sheetz MTO. I miss it. Haven't been to Sheetz in 6 years.
I used to eat at that mcdonalds alot. Miss it being around
That's the McDonald's I remember from being a kid that has to be from the 80s or early 90s awesome to see
You don't see abandoned McDonald's very much in my area, Denver, many are either quickly demolished or quickly refurbished. All of the ones I went to as a kid have been replaced by newer bigger ones elsewhere and the old ones demolished.
As someone who is from and lives in new Phila i love this 😂
I’m from new Philly and have no idea where this is
Ik where the turbine is though

I miss the Golden Arches of the 1960’s 70’s
I worked my first job at a McDonald's in the late 70s. This one looks more like the one where I first worked, but mine was attached to a strip center and didn't have a drive-thru.
We live in new philadelphia and i seen that abandoned mcdonalds every time we pass by it.

We have two in my area of Missouri that were left abandoned.
