I love how you documented how respectful the crew is. They stop work when you are on site for safety. They all speak to you in a kind and professional manner. They even picked up trashcans that were not picked up by the city because of parking. This is a level of behavior that is rare with many construction crews and it's cool to see a standard being set by Tesla in this regard.

This panel can put out close to 100 watts czcams.com/users/postUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle. The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts. If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

Tesla solar is very nice. Material cost is also high. Just did a self install of a 7.2kW grid tie. Everything including panel, inverters, and sub panels cost $10,800. This was with the enphase system. The enphase system is nice and easy to install since it converts DC to AC right at the panel making the wire and conduit runs easier. The lowest bid I got from a contractor was $24K with lower quality equipment. You can always install the panels on your roof and run the wires and conduit to a central location and hire an electrician/contractor to do the rest.

@AlexDillman That appears to be a technique to lock in the tiles. I've seen many of the crew do this. The mounts have to be kicked to connect with the clips. In the upcoming video, I show how the tiles hold in place. Once they snap in, they can only be removed with a unique "crowbar"-like tool. I'm guessing the shoes also have a rubber sole for walking on and kicking the tiles into place.

I'm also evaluating the solar roof in Florida. The system size quoted is for the panels only. There are losses due to cables, inverter and panel orientation. The key number is the quoted yearly production. To estimate the design efficiency, I took their quoted yearly production of 28,017 KWH divided by 365 days times average solar hours for florida. Net size = 28,017 / (365 * 5.69) = 13.5KW. So the quoted 21.6KW system only nets 13.5Kw of power. Eff = 13.5kw / 21.6kw = 62%

We stomp on the panels because the metal prongs behind them are big while the feet we’re putting them on are small *We measure each tile to secure proper feet position* yes it’s procedure to stomp on these...From the glass tiles to PV tiles...They can withstand a swing of a hammer for sure. Some coworkers slightly mush the tiles in with a shove of their foot ... I stomp on everything😂💪🏽💫

The roof have waves can be fixed only needs just overlay redecking but this roofers looks like the only learn how to install the panels. If the have a high wind one time the panel can be damage and put the integrity of the roof in risk. I hope Tesla need to redesign how to install the panels o talk with the roofing contractor to do a 100% correctly no bumps o weak spots in the roof. I’m a roofer installer no contractor but always make sure my the costumers get what the pay . A good satisfying final product!

thank you for sharing your experience. I recently had mine installed and did not have a good experience. the first day i had to help unload the truck cause the materials showed up with no tesla crew. Just a delivery guy with the materials. The install took about 3 weeks and then it took 2 months to get the Permission To Operate. This was mainly because Tesla had a delay in getting the proper paperwork submitted and lack of communication. I did have a few mishaps during my install. One of the nails hit a water line that went up into my roof for a 2nd floor shower i have, but they squared that away and there was a large hole cut in my attic that wasnt replaced. The system worked for 2 weeks producing about half the energy the system was estimated to produce and the inverter has died as of yesterday. No lights on it and solar is not producing power now. Support was notified this morning, but there seems to be no urgency in getting it fixed.. I was told it maybe next week before someone looks at it. Not the type of quality service i was expecting.. I will say the install crew though was the best part of my experience, its too bad things fall apart after that for the customer experience.

Took them three months, they will keep lying to you it’s software update issue on inverter

@@nickneber3273 thank you for the insight. It's too bad the App doesn't allow for seeing individual tile performance. I put my 100$ down and got on the wait list around April of 2019 and my project (roof plus three power walls) started in February of 2020. Unfortunately, due to Tesla communication errors, my system has never been fully up and running for more than a week.
Every Tesla employee who I have met has been completely professional and competent, but communication can come from Las Vegas, Palo Alto, or from your local region. I can only guess that their growing pains are most magnified in unbelievably poor communication and project management. My original local PM was fired along with many others in the NE recently. I get so many mixed messages and unanswered messages that I exhausted.
One of my inverters keeps failing and I am paying giant electric bills but I have a sharp looking roof. I still feel confident that eventually the work will get done but I have a different crew here every other week and I have had my PTO from my utility since April!
Just have to stay patient and pray….very frustrating and very unlike the Tesla image portrayed everywhere.

If not, it seems to me that this is still in beta. Because on a new house, the extra installation is avoided and you don’t need to design the roof for every single house, as generally they have many homes with a particular roof layout.
