This panel can put out close to 100 watts czcams.com/users/postUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle. The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts. If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.
Excellent Ryan's Shed Plans. czcams.com/users/postUgkxn5Hu39f8DPIFYfBbaiOSis3qfw0nqoFp I built the basic model with its help and it turned out great . It is intensive and really educational. Ryan's got another victor! No one can represent it better than Ryan's. Thank you, Ryan's!
Absolutely love hearing this from a builder, and not just from the company. Please PLEASE do a second video after the installation is complete. Eager to know how it turns out!
This tells us nothing about how the product functions in the long term tho
Only because he's a builder doesn't mean he wasn't paid to make this huge ad.
Well stay tuned because 25 years plus and every single manufacturer of this technology has failed. There are a lot of unhappy homeowners in the United States who have tried this.
@@boblatkey7160 What are you on about?
We've been living with the Solar Roof for almost two years now. Love it! We had it put on an older house, and that made it much more complicated install than this project. This looks really slick, glad you finally did a video on this, Matt!
Are you located in an area where you get lots of sun like CA or TX? I’m in IL so I’m curious about the performance possibilities for my area.
The Tesla brand solar roof? I hear good and bad results of this roof. So I’m skeptical about the brand.
@@mykarma0011 Google "insolation map". That will tell you how "sunny" it is where you live. If you have basic math skills, you can actually calculate the upper limit of what you can get with your rooftop solar. PVs typically operate at like 25% efficiency, I want to say.
@quandombus18 I can't comment about Tesla roof but I have a standard solar grid on my roof and it has been fantastic. It covers my electricity bills for 90% of the year and I'm in NY in an area that gets more Grey skies then Seattle which is known for its dreary weather.
I financed most of it and my payment matched my electric bill. However with Covid everything went up in price including electricity (about 25% increase) and now I'm saving money.
It should add value to my house, the roof under the panels last longer as they aren't exposed to the sun, and honestly I think it looks pretty decent as 90% of my garage roof is covered with all black panel/grid.
My only concern is in the winter the system doesn't have a melt feature so snow can stay on the panels and not generate. I have since gotten a rubber roof rake to clear them but a melt feature would have been nice
What are the real numbers considering cost, install, maintenance, and repairs?
Yes! Do a show on the final product once it’s installed and running. Absolutely want to see that.
Calm down, let others do the beta testing.
@@petebusch9069
Yes love to see the final installation with an amp logger
I would love to see how the roof performs once everything has been installed.
Including the total bill and expected ROI.
Total bill is said to be barely more than a new roof with regular solar added. We’ll see about that.
Yeah, especially the difference between the installed wattage vs. real world production wattage. So how much power does the installed 55kWp actually produce on an avarage day...
you must be new here
@@thomasegjoergensen If most of the cells are facing South on the best days (early Summer) they will produce around 250 kWh per day. On the shortest days in the Winter it will be around 100 kWh per day.
Definitely want to see how the system works after construction completes
We had this installed a few years ago. Our underlayment was shot so needed to be reroofed. I got 4 bids on reroofing with new underlayment but with my existing 25 yr old roof tiles put back down. When we looked at the Tesla option it was a no brainer. We will realize enough cost savings that the roof will pay for itself in 12-14 years. And it only takes 4 years payback to get to what the traditional re-roofers price was. And it's a brand new roof adding resale value. Very happy with our 8.5K system and no electrical bills (So. Cal). If anyone wants a discount on Tesla I have a referral code I can give you. Thx
I would be interested in the discount code as we are very interested in installing this.
I’m interested. If your promo code is still works.
Would love to have the promo code too! Thanks!!
Promo code, please!?
@@sleepybear7642 How so? If the system pays for itself in12-14 years seems a no brainer.
I would love to see the finished product!!!
Please do a house tour when you come back- the rest of the home is probably just as awesome as the roof.
Roughly $120K in my portfolio are in tech/TSLA stocks, can I get an advice on any other stocks that I can acquire to diversify my reserve across multiple markets while creating a comprehensive portfolio allocation that balances my concerns of risk aversion and returns that meet yearly inflation.
I agree, before the pandemic got real serious, I used to handle all my investment and I was pretty good at it, fast forward to post-pandemic and my-portfolio is steady in the red with profit rate down to the lowest, that's when I touched-base with a coach I saw featured on businessweek, who restructured my portfolio and over the last couple months, I've made over $850k from initially $210K
Smart, If i wanted to do the same with my retirement funds too, how do i get started trading?
One of the fiduciaries I deal with is Alicia Ann Jordan. Just check the name. There would be a letter with the necessary information to set up an appointment
I'm grateful for this advice. Finding your coach wasn't too hard. I researched her well before arranging to speak with her on the phone. Considering her resume, she appears competent.
will tesla go back up? i was up over 100% now im at even
Follow up on perfomance and any issues definitely required!! 🤓
Whoa - a 50KW roof is amazing! 🤯
A complete walk-through of the power infrastructure would be great. 👍
Ten Powerwalls is crazy. Three is considered a lot for most homes. Plus two generators. He did say money wasn't a concern for this buyer.
Way overkill. That is at least 3x what the home will need. Same for the amount of storage they are putting in. Even on a cloudy day that system is going to produce 2x what the house needs.
50 kw of solar and 140 kwh of backup is Bananas.
Ya its nuts. Iv'e got a 6KW system on our 2500sf house and the solar pretty much covers the house usage plus my wife's EV here in California. 50KW is insane.
You and the power co could only use about 1/10th of it
Ohms law 101
Bad a$$!
Almost every home in America could make 50kw with the proper roof system, and will when these tiles are mass produced
The roofs would have to be .90 percent bigger or the panel's 90% more efficient
Again owns law 101
Like the whole inland deal the problem is is measured in watts should be measured in amps
Glad to finally see them up close, would have liked to see more on how they handle the penetrations
You're on the wrong website Sir, you want to be on YouPorn for that
Yeah... i was hoping to see how the roofer handled all the penetrations???
That is probably why they have generating panels and non-generating panels. Use the non-generating panels around penetrations and they can be handled the same as regular metal roofing panels. Try to get all of the penetrations at the same level and just install a couple of rows of non-generating panels. That way if the roof is smaller, all of the other panels can be generating panels.
You can see vent pipes and ducts in this video and it looks like they have special panels that fit the grid system. No doubt they've thought of every question we can think of.
I hope you’ll be able to revisit once everything is done and lived in for a few months. I’m sure there’ll be millions of people interested in how this works in the real world, especially for such a large build as this.
With 25 years in the solar panel industry not one single manufacture of this technology has ever survived and there are many many homeowners who have tried this technology and have ran into problems and are unable to resolve them or claim warranty. I would never touch it even though solar pays 100% of my income for the last 25 years.
You be THE BEST, Matt!
Yes, please do a follow-up when the entire system is operational.
I've love to see more about those "gateways": switching between grid, batteries and generators.
Also, can you talk a little more about the passive "air gap" from the soffit to the ridge vent?
ALL SYSTEMS GO!
Would love to see a finished project.
Would love to see a follow up when it's fully installed.
Me too but we won't see that, we only see the up front marketing which is what your watching in this video. There will be issues and the true costs have not been available yet.
Pete, you’re a bit cynical. With all early adopters of new technology, There are always unknown issues. Costs of purchase and issues of longevity are unknowable. Ranges of cost are 3-4 times the cost of standing seam metal.
@@danielwoodard680 Most of this crap fails in terms of ROI, that's why I'm cynical. Your right, there are unknown issues, I just don't want to be the beta tester that has to pay full price for the system. You know dam well there will be unknown costs down the road. That, and factor in new tech possibly coming out with new panels that are WAY better, then what are you going to do, hmmm. Did you factor in constant upgrades, you also know that will play a huge roll in the ROI of these new systems. Go ahead and feel superior spending your own money developing someone else's product. If that makes you feel like your doing your part to help mankind the go for it and watch yourself go broke while a new billionaire is created which ironically is all your really creating.
@@petebusch9069 Well, all the money hoarders of the world need something to spend their fortunes on. Let that be their unique way of helping out. You're right, products need continuous development and funding for that development. People should always exercise caution when making big financial decisions, and the length of the process from purchase to runtime can be a red flag to watch out for. I also avoid buying from any website that hosts its own reviews because you know they're cherry-picked.
@@Tubeytime Billionaires like to spend their money buying politicians both left and right. Now we all know that is never a good outcome.
As a installer of this product I can tell you I’ve broken 3 tiles of all size’s during installation. It is tempered glass so hitting the edges together will break them and accidentally stepping on a top clip will also make them explode.
All in all I do think they install pretty easily and look nice when completed
So a nightmare for anyone that works on it afterwards. Cool.
So you are saying you can not walk on them?
What would happen in a hail storm then?!
@@markae0 you can walk all over them. When you’re installing them you can step on the tabs or they can break. Then you’re making no $$ and cleaning up glass
@@Mrs.LadeyBug we set on on the ground and jumped up and down on it trying to break it. Since it’s tempered glass it’s super tough on its “ face” side, but if you tap on the edge it can shatter.
DEFINITELY come back to tour the finished installation! Fascinating!
Absolutely 💯 It would be very informative to see such an impressive system in its final form
& see in 15 years how many of the plastic clips/fittings have cracked (if any).
It's an unnecessary system nobody should be installing. With regular solar, you don't need to upgrade to 200 amps, as 100 amps is fine.
Yes please go back and do an update on the Tesla roof! This is amazing!
Yes. Definitely follow up when it’s finished. We will be building our new home soon and are definitely interested in this. Thank you for sharing this!
100% agreed! This is a viable option for a new build.
Love to see after everything is installed and functional, looks like a great system I like the fact you can replace a tile in the middle very impressive.

Great overview! Was really interesting to see the panels up close, I think that's the first time I've seen them in detail like that. Definitely need to follow-up with this project!
I really liked the details about roof edges and replacing a mid tile if needed.

Yes, please follow-up. I would love to see a full cost analysis.
That’s a ton of power. Nice build
Would definitely love to see a follow up video on this system.
I’m very impressed with the system. Thank you for sharing the knowledge that makes it easy to understand. Yes, please return and give us an update.
For sure want to see this done! I was told back in 2020 that I couldn’t use my portable generator backup as backup to my solar and powerwalls in the scenario you mentioned. Wonder if my local installer was just clueless or that has changed. Very cool! Love this type of resilience
Do you live in commiecalifornia? Depends on your state and/or your electric supplier. You can go completely off grid. But in many areas if you want to "sell back" your electricity back into their system, you have to shut down when the power goes out.
Check what inverter you have.
You have to pay extra for a special inverter so yes he was probably clueless but also maybe he knew it was going to cost a buttload more so he just didn't tell you
Yes, please revisit. You had me at "10 power walls".
That's a serious amount of power walls.
I tried to work with Tesla here in California for a year between 2021 - 2022. They had a lot of issues to iron out. Their customer support all had full voicemail boxes, and constant turn over of staff. After about 6 months of silence, I went with another product. But it's great to see them on that roof! I'd love to hear how it turned out!
Please come back and visit this house when it is operational so we can see how this house functions in the real world. This was an amazing show-- thank you !!
Seeing 10 power walls would be epic. Have to revisit this after they get the system finished!
Lets come back to this project after one full year and see the ROI, thanks Matt for featuring this Roof build.
Oh please. If you can afford a home like that you don't worry about ROI.
@@slickraft Yes and No. I'm guessing in this case it's mostly installed as a status symbol, kind of like buying a Tesla car (I don't think any Tesla product has yet offered a payback). But other high-end buyers will wait for an ROI (that's how they got rich; by being conscious of returns).
@@slickraft Where I was born , in Asia many houses are worth $100,000 to $200,000 , Solar panels and LFP batteries allow offgrid or gridtie installations ,some whole systems go for $10,000 ,with the cost of Electricity being so high and constant blackouts it is a no brainer to have Solar and batteries ,ROI around 5-6 years as many are finding out.
@@slickraft if you can afford a house like this that means you live ROI…
Whoever lives here has thought this through
@@FreekHoekstra We have much smaller house and cheaper solar roof/powerwall package. Had to replace the roof, and it ended up costing us about what metal would have, or twice asphalt (after incentives and insurance payment).
The ROI changes every year. We originally thought it was ~15yrs. Last Fall, we got a software update for the batteries, and now it looks like our ROI is cut to ~7yrs. Depends on energy prices, and if you have an EV etc. That's not factoring in gas savings and future energy savings improvements.
It also felt like an opportunity we couldn't pass up on, and was worth it for style reasons. They've also hiked the price since then, and people have much larger and more complicated roofs than ours.
I had an enphase solar system installed last month, and span panel getting installed shortly. I'd love to see this house when complete, with the power walls, span panels, and what 30 days of production looks like from that massive 50kw array!
Love the video, can't wait to see the finished product with the SPAN panels and all those batteries.

TOTALLY WANNA SEE THIS 2ND PART. VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT HOME
As an Architect and someone that just finished building a custom home, this roof is super awesome.....for those that can afford it. Our roof we installed is a high-end concrete flat tile, we priced a tesla roof, and it was 4 times the cost of the tile roof. With that kind of price increase it really is just for those that want the bragging rights or truly have money to burn for the new cool tech. I think it will still be a decade or more before you see this type of roof incorporated into everyday home construction. Don't forget, you don't just have the cost of the roof that's 4 times more, but then you need the power walls as well.
Does that include the cost of install? What was your expected ROI on the solar?
@@InfluentialStudios We could never ROI per our estimates. We would never save enough power to offset the cost of the Tesla solar roof. With a 20 year excepted production lifespan, we would never ROI before the panel production was too low and needed replacement. The Tesla roof might have a 30+ "roof" warranty but the panels start degrading production the moment they are installed. By 20 years you are already in the 30% production range. Cost of entry is still too high for most consumers.
I thought the same thing, but I ran some numbers and was surprised how good the ROI was. I may be off on cost and savings, but if I'm close the premium over a metal roof has an ROI of about 7.5% per year. Not too shabby. Video here: czcams.com/video/y6bcUSQXEmo/video.html
I'm building a new custom home in GA and wanted to get the Tesla Solar roof. The math just didn't work out--and I'm a retired accountant. Then there was the short supply and not enough installers to contend with. The roof plus the Powerwalls wouldn't start saving me money until after I'm dead. In some states, electricity is just too cheap for this version of the solar roof too compete. Perhaps in 10 years the cost will make more sense. I agree, it just for those that want the bragging rights.
Matt, We would enjoy seeing not only a follow up video upon completion but an interview with the homeowner a year after occupancy to see how the system is performing. Also had some questions for your next video on this topic. Does the cost he described at 3-4x metal roof include the wiring, converters, backup generators, etc. And what does Tesla say about their roof system in northern climates that experience snow accumulations and all the issues that snow brings including load, reduced performance, ice dams, etc.
good question. the answer to most of them is... uh... it's a pseudo-scam perpetrated by Elon , so what do you think? Costs are hidden pretty much everywhere. Pretty much everything is hidden
Thanks Matt....!! Great as always!
Listening to this while manufacturing these panels, they are very well designed!
What about costs? This type of system could easily cost $120,000 plus to install and with the tax credit that drops to $84,000. Let's say the electric bill is $500 a month and these generate 100%. That is a 14 year payout and this does not include additional insurance or other costs. That is considering that the house faces the correct position for the panels.
I had 2 people come by and give me basic solar estimates lately. The 1st one was honest and we crunched the numbers to find out that I would be paying $258.00 per month for 20 years to save $208.00 per month in electrical costs. That leaves me $50 a month negative over the costs.
The 2nd one came by and tells me they can generate 100% or my elecricity and we have a 400 amp service. He wanted to put 60 400 watt panels all on my house on every direction. Then told me it would generate $500 per month in electricity and would costs $260 to pay at 20 years. The guy was a snake oil salesman who wanted me to sign now and worry later. These are the people who give solar a bad name. Either it is going to be a good investment or the rates will be so cheap that it will not be a payback in the time expected, simply like that.
I am an EC who spent $15,000 on a Skystream 3.7 back in 2010 and they went out of business in 2014. Now that 15k investment has generated at the most $2500 in electricity and now it is broke down and they are gone. The worst investment I have made in a while. There are stories out there everywhere that people are buying solar because of promises which do not get fulfillled. Don't be afraid to say no to solar scams. If your rates are around 10 cent per kwh it will be hard to generate the spent money back.
Plus no one talks about cost of capital. That 84k could ear. 5% risk free. They never put that in the payback numbers. Just green fart smellers
My guess is this contraption with all the Power Walls and generators is $250000. From what I’ve seen the Power Walls and solar make since in Cali where the market is messed up, but not so much here in Texas. The Power Walls will need to be replaced in 10 years at most, $100000 and some labor today. You’ll have to do that 2 times before the roof starts to slip according to the 25 year warranty. Then do you replace the working tiles on the roof or the whole thing that cost 3 to 4 times a standing seam metal roof?
@@daddams2538 This system may work in Cali where electricity rates are from 35 cents per kwh to $1.06 per kwh which is 9 times what we pay in Texas. How long will it take to recoup $350,000 in electric bills. At 30 years that is $972.22 per month for electricity. Do they really think they are going to pay that much for electricity for 30 years? And this is if the system last for 30 years.
Would love to see the finished power system!
Love to see this final build!!!
Definitely come back to see it all working!
I had these panels installed in August 2020. But it's nothing compared to this. I've only got 6.43kW and one PowerWall. But it's still awesome. I'm close to breaking even - meaning zero electricity costs over the year with one Tesla MY charging daily from it. I'm estimating a payback in about 14 years but that includes the cost of replacing a defective roof that needed replacement anyways. Plus I don't buy gasoline. The one negative in So. CA is because there's no rain for most of the year, the beautiful black glass panels get covered in dust over time. The little rainfall barely ever washes it off and there's always a brown line across the bottom edge of each roof tile. That's noticeable from close up but not from the street.
What nobody talks about is the monthly payment you still have. You may not be paying for grid power but you are paying the system monthly.
@@xxZerosumxx that's what I meant by payback in 14 years. The monthly savings is more than the monthly payment.
I had a friend in California who had to keep his panels cleaned monthly to keep them operating at peak performance due to the dust. Your 14 years may go to 17 years if not cleaned!
A 14 year payback is horrible but thank you for that information. I hope you somehow come out ahead in the long run.
@@petebusch9069 After 14 years in fact...

Please give us an update on how this roof performs and electrical production. Also would like to see how they finish off the house as currently it’s monopoly framed without overhangs. Weird that one entire side of the house is without windows.
Facing the golf course? Should get windows as though as those solar panels to deal with the incoming golf balls 🙂
@@zapfanzapfan my mom lives on a golf course adjacent to the 16th green with dogleg approach. this was taken into consideration in how her house was designed and laid out on the site; so far only balls on the roof... she collects them from below the gutter downspouts! lol. no windows hit, brick exterior.
Exactly the install we are thinking about! Please come back when it's done! (span + pwall + solarroof)
Yes! Please do come back to this house, I'd love to see an update when it's up and running.
I looked into this 5-years ago when I built my home. It was roughly $80k for a 2,200sqft roof. Break-even was estimated at 50-years.
I suspect that break even period would sharply reduce as energy costs go up, that sounds like it was based purely on energy cost at time of quote?
@@DomingoDeSantaClara I'm not sure to be honest, that's just what Tesla said. I live in Ohio, so much different if you're in a sunny state I'm sure with how much energy you can produce.
Plus the price of the Tesla solar roof went up substantially since then, 50-75% depending on location.
I think the solar roof, once widespread and perfected and cheaper, will be the single most important change to our energy infrastructure ever. Imagine if we can entirely decentralize the power grid that’s powerful.
Solar roof is always going to be more expensive and less effective than the alternatives. Placing solar panels behind glass panels inherently reduces the efficiency. Not to mention that these are hooked up to string inverters rather than better performing micro inverters or power optimizers. You’re looking at a product that requires many more panels to perform at the same level.
It’s much better for everyone to use metal roofs and and attach regular solar panel setups, or even better we can utilize solar farms that are cheaper per kW.
Well the company that sells the panels will be centralized, unless they build a company not owned by anyone, good luck with that.
Don't all solar panels have glass?
Absolutely! Unfortunately we do have people in government positions pushing back innovation and want to force people to stay using the grid and oil.
I love that with upcoming more advanced, safer, lower cost and higher capacity batteries can help everyone disconnect from the grid.
why waste your time and money ? if Mr. Musk has his way he will build his solar farm and be able to power the entire country plus hail doesn't need to be big to destroy an object
This has to be visited at least one more time... maybe two. Love it!! I thought the Tesla solar roof was dead... glad to see it is alive.
Love me a straight shooter like this gentleman builder, great job sir!

I would make sure you use one of the verified 3rd party contractors. The only bad thing about this product is the tesla RSD (rapid shut down devices). they have a extremely high failure rate. and because of how these systems are designed its horrendous to do maintenance on and cause leaking issues when people are popping up tiles as the feet of the panels get pulled up 5%-10% of the time. If they get there failure rate down though this wont be a problem in the future. Another product that is better designed in that regard is timberline solar although it is not as astatically pleasing.
I'm looking at the Timberline, Solstice, and Suntegra on a new barn I'm designing. I agree, they don't look as nice, but A) the Tesla isn't available here and B) Tesla doesn't fill me with confidence.
@@corystansbury ya i have not dove into the timberline stuff to much but the design of how its installed makes much more sense then Tesla's.
You need to have another episode discussing the VAST difference between working with a roofer trained and certified by Tesla to install their product, vs working with Tesla directly. I was told by one such local roofer their price would be twice of what Tesla charged me (but it was no walk in the park working with Tesla, even though I am a licensed architect who understands the challenges of construction). The 3 to 4x price of standing-seam metal roof is a shocking multiplier, but it is also not qualified, thus unfortunately gives a very erroneous impression. It's NOT representative of what a homeowner would incur if they were replacing an old roof with new metal roof vs Tesla Solar Roof. In my case in DEC 2021, it was $36k TSR without a battery vs $19k (the cheapest possible quote, plenty other went multiples of that) for metal roof before federal & state tax incentives. A more apple to apple comparison, esp. for a brand new custom built house, would be to compare the combined cost of a 50 kw PV system on top of a metal roof, using the same capacity of batteries, chargers AND generators SO THAT the premium that a Tesla Solar Roof commands relative to the more typical PV+metal roof can be isolated. Furthermore, it appears that in this case, the same roofer would have installed either metal or TSR, which would most likely not be the case on other projects, meaning his metal roof cost would be an honest, transparent cost to the GC. I suggest so as not to discourage or scare off other homeowner considering TSR by the 3x to 4x multiplier quoted, you should do one more episode performing a much more accurate and meaningful comparison, not unlike the one you did on HW heaters.
In less words, I think what you are trying to say is in some scenarios, TSR is a cost comparable alternative to metal roof plus solar panels.
And with an appropriately sized battery what would that price be? Perhaps 3-4x?
Thank you for that great insight.
@@londen3547 It doesn't matter. To make a fair comparison you have to compare a conventional metal roof + a conventional solar power system with a Tesla roof (which includes the hardware to control the power generated by the roof, but does not include storage, unless you decide to add it). If you want to include storage then you need to add battery storage systems to both sides of the equation.
If you don't want solar power then obviously there is no reason to consider a Tesla solar roof system. But if you do want solar and want to compare costs, then see the first paragraph.
@@EllerraD Also the Tesla roof seems to be as attractive as a metal roof and metal roofs are nice if there is no hail issue. The attractiveness of just a Tesla roof is way way better than a metal roof with solar panels
Yes, we want to see the finished product. I love the look of these panels... so far ahead of all other solar panels.
Yes Matt would love to see a full tour !
I'm in California in PG&E tyranny land. After a 1200/m power bill I went with a ground mount system, 23k/w. I looked into the roof tile system but didn't pencil and I'm happy I did.
How much is your Pg&e bill now?
@@brokenwrench404 0.
This is like $200k in solar.
If that were my house, I would make myself a latte on my $5000 Miele Espresso Machine, saunter out onto my balcony in just my boxers and scream "I'm Rich Biatch!!!" a the top of my lungs every morning before lighting a $100 bill on fire just because I have too many of them 😂
Fantastic job Jenkins Team
Very cool technology, with that black roof your going to need lots of aircon to cool off the home, thank God there's heaps of free solar power in this array.
The panel makes a gap between it and the roof below, so while it runs hot, it should keep the roof cooler ,especially in hot sunny climates.
A lot of the radiation that would be converted to heat by the black roof is being absorbed and converted to electric energy by the solar cells.
There’s an air gap between the plywood roof and the panels. And it’s not insignificant either. Iirc they actually mention it but cooler air naturally circulates underneath it. It’s probably way better than asphalt.
@@kai.05xcept solar arrays do create heat. You do realize only 23% of the spectrum of sunlight we get is usable for pvs right?
@@kenthhamner2641 yes, but they also only turn about 30% of that spectrum into heat.
Investing in assets like stocks, gold, silver, and digital currencies that are not influenced by the government is critical presently, given the ongoing global economic downturn. It is an opportune time to diversify your sources of income and broaden your investment portfolio.

Find stocks with market-beating yields and shares that at least keep pace with the market for a long term. For a successful long-term strategy I recommend you seek the guidance a broker or financial advisor.
you're right! If you are unfamiliar with the market, I recommend seeking advice or assistance from a financial/investment coach. With the help of an investment advisor, I have diversified my $450,000 portfolio across multiple markets, We were able to generate over $1.2 million in net income from seasonally high-dividend stocks, ETFs and bonds. Dang with Tesla’s new price hikes, that’s like a $300k roof/battery system installed.. 😳
thye have money say house cost 5million
From everything Ive read the GAF Timberline Solar Shingle is a lot better. Installs like regular shingles so no special training for roofers and it takes a day or 2 and not weeks like the Tesla. GAF also has a 25 year warranty vs Teslas 10 year.
Tesla roof has a 25 year warranty too. Just got a quote for both.
Always good to see two professionals talk on screen.
Hi Mr. Truitt, I’d really enjoy seeing a ‘completed project’ video, and I also want to thank you for this ‘before’ video!
Just a super chill $350k roof install.
That seems too high but I’m honestly not sure.
@@buildshow last time I priced out 25kwh + 4 battery packs it was almost 200k so I was just guessing... It's pricey though.

While I hope the technology becomes more widespread, I have my doubts about working with Tesla. Much like their vehicles, Tesla solar serves up a very short list of options and tends to be very rigid about deviating from them. For example, I have some shading issues and Tesla refused my request to add micro-inverters (as a solution) to the proposal. Furthermore, getting a live person on the phone is a challenge, particularly on the service end. I know that GAF has a similar product out now, however, I suspect there are still issues that need to be worked out before buyers can be comfortable with this option.
Some caveats I feel are important for people to know, some of this is in the video but I wanted to expand upon it:
1) This is not competing with asphalt, this is competing with premium metal roofs and people who would also do solar. Keep that in mind when comparing $
2) This is still a relatively early “beta” product from Tesla, and they have priced it high to limit demand while they iterate. Solar roof is on the 3rd major version (maybe 4th?) now with a ton of improvements. Wait times are also high for this reason. Eventually they will finalize the design and scale the factory to drive the $/tile down
3) the glass is *bulletproof* to 22 LR, so all but the worst hail can be stopped without damage.
4) glass takes hundreds of years to break down, in terms of long term durability it’s hard to beat glass as long as you’re not impacting it with huge debris
5) In the future when the factory is scaled up and the $/tile drops you could conceivably do a “100% performing panel” roof and get some absurd peak power numbers (100+KW?) because the cost will be reasonable. For now that is not economical though
6) the Tesla app is very slick, love it. Unfortunately the Tesla Power wall is 3-4x more expensive than the competition in terms of $/kwh. If you are rich and $ doesn’t matter Tesla has the best “user experience”, but otherwise there are better options in terms of $/kwh battery storage. This is also something that will change over time, right now Tesla has artificially inflated the price of power wall because they are cell constrained with their cars. Every cell they could sell for power wall makes more $ for Tesla in a car. Once Tesla has scaled battery production such that they are surpassing EV demand you will see massive, rapid price cuts on the power wall product
Impressive, amazing system
