  • Recently I've become annoyed with having to push up my tailgate; although it would stay in place once up, but I figured it's just a matter of time before they completely failed. In this video, I show you how to easily replace these gas charged lift supports.

    I found them cheaper at CarID where I eventually purchased them. www.carid.com/...

    Hey man, thanks. I have a 2012 and I was going to loosen up the bolt, then I thought, huh, maybe not. Came to your video, saved me a lot of grief. Thanks man.

    I am follicaly challenged and the encounters I have had with my tail gate lately has taken its toll on my forehead. Ordered some new gas struts and your video has made the the replacement task so easy. Thank you very much.

    Thanks a million, mine just went out on 2011 liberty and looks exact to yours. Was thinking rear panel had to come out to access bolts inside door. You saved me a huge headache, now to just find replacement. (Update, found parts at AutoZone same day and 5 min later back in business)

    Thank. I just changed my lift gate supports. Very easy. Just make sure to remove the strut at the gate end first. Also, you don't need to losen the clips on the new ones. They arrest by themselves

    You don’t need to open the retaining clip on the new shock, to replace. In fact it’s better if you don’t. If that new clip pops off, it’s a pain to make right again. Just grease the pin, and push. Done.

    I have a 2013 GC overland with the powered liftgate.
    How can I open the liftgate manually in case if there is a problem and the liftgate cannot be opened by remote and by the handle and I want to replace the electric lifter or the air strut?
    Could you please make a video showing that because there is no video on the entire internet showing that till this moment.

      I got mine from CarId... here's a link for you (double check yourself that these are correct) www.carid.com/2015-jeep-grand-cherokee-trunk-tailgate-lift-supports/?filter=1&sub-model[Liter][]=3.6L

    Should the body (big part) of the lift be closer or after away from the glass?

    • @242Shaker
      @242Shaker  Před 4 lety

      Tien Trinh if installed properly, there should be no difference from it originally.

    Nice change where do you get your mats from mate?

    • @242Shaker
      @242Shaker  Před 6 lety

      Charlie Murphy the rear mat is from weathertech, the interior mats are from mopar (justforjeeps.com); I think they fit better and they say “grand cherokee” across them... cuz I’m a nerd. 😬

    You don’t need to release the clips on the new ones. They will click right into place

      Correct! I learned that later.
