    • @UnboxingSve
      @UnboxingSve  Před 3 lety +8

      Good question! It is because of the tire width - larger wheel size comes with wider tires which makes more friction causing slower acceleration and higher fuel consumption.

    Do larger wheel damage suspension..?
    And can we calibrate speedo meter for correct reading after installing bigger tyres..!

    • @UnboxingSve
      @UnboxingSve  Před 5 lety +3

      Definitely, the suspension will feel the bigger rims so you will need to change parts sooner. Of course, this will depend on the roads you have in your country, if the roads are good, that will not be so obvious as if the roads are full of holes and then it affects the suspension even more. I would not suggest playing with calibration of speedometer, better to use the website that I recommended and see the proper dimensions of tires for bigger rims, then if you put the proper size, your speedometer will still show exact speed even if you are on bigger rims, as long as the tires are per factory recommendations (which the website at 1:57 will show you).

    • @UnboxingSve
      @UnboxingSve  Před 3 lety +3

      Yes you can, but your stock tire size for 17 should be 215/45ZR17 so you can calculate how much speed difference your speedometer will lie. Also, when putting rims from another car then you should check how much J and ET they are, they should be 7Jx17 ET39 for your car. 7Jx17 part of that is the size of the wheel rim - in this case it has a width of 7 inches and a diameter of 17 inches. The ET39 shows that these wheels have a positive offset of 39mm.

      No, if you respect the factory tire size recommendations while upgrading. I have explained in the video for example 195/65/r15 is the size for tires on 15" rims on my car and if you upgrade to 16" then tire is 205/55/r16 so the overall diameter of the tire is same as with the previous one. Then on the 17" it will be 225/45/r17 that are standard sizes for my VW Jetta but it will be different from car to car so I have left website where you can check for your car.

    Hi, thanks for the video very educative. I have a questions. I have a 2014 Toyota Avalon hybrid with stock 215/55/R17 tires and wheels are 17x7 ET40 bolt pattern 5x114.3 . I fall in love with a 20" Wheels with bolt pattern 5x120 20x8.5 ET60 and tires 245/30ZR20. I had to install 1'' adapters. the installation was done by an professional mechanic and it was straight forward. everything fitted perfectly including the center bore. the pros and the cons are exactly what you are described in this video, but the acceleration decreased way more than I was expecting. the cars feel is very heavy and I have to push the pedal way more in order to speed up. the tires are high performance summer tires. do you think if I put all season tires the acceleration will improve? or is not depend on the tires? the cars feel stable and strong I dont feel nothing wron with the ride even a high speed (100mph) do you recommend me to keep them or got to 19 ?

    • @UnboxingSve
      @UnboxingSve  Před 4 lety +2

      Hello, I don`t think type of the tires will change anything. You have issue because your tires on 20inch rims are 3 cm wider then your old tires, that means more grip and better stability, but it needs more power to run such a wide tires which will also lead to higher fuel consumption and as you already experienced, decreased acceleration. Factory recommendations for your car are max 18" rims with tires 225/45R18 and that will not be too much difference from 17 in terms of acceleration so my advise is actually go for max 18" rims.

      They recommend only LT195R15. So I am not sure will you even be able to fit 17" and not sure which tire size you should look for. For the OEM wheels they recommend only the size you now have. Also, your bolt pattern is 6x139.7 which is tricky to find rims so maybe you will need to customize if you want to upgrade.

    One very important thing is missing and that is ET(wheel offset, more will explain google). By changing one wheels(rims) with bigger ones, your total diameter of wheels(rim+tire) should stay close to original as possible, if you don't want rubbing on car chassis from vertical tire movement. Also speedometer will be off, abs may act differently and problem with passing a tire homologation. But achieve that, you will need specific size for your car, which probably mean wider tires. With wider tires, you will probably need wider wheels(rims). And that is point where ET come along if you want, your new wheel(rim+tire)(when car is fully loaded or unloaded stock car without chasiss modification) will not rubbing on suspension, inner part of car body, or when car is fully loaded and your wheeels are turned max left or rigt. Et number is specific for every vehicle brand and model. And with changing Rim size parameters , ET number will differ. For example ET number for Golf 7 with 195/65/R15 tires and 6jx15 wheels is 43. For 7,5jx17 sized wheels and 225/45/R17 tires, ET number change to 49.
