I would also add that when you come home or to a warm place after shooting in cold conditions, it's better to let the cold drone sit in the bag for a couple of hours before u take it out. This will ensure that drones' inner parts do not get moisture as a result of condensation due to rapid cold/warm temperature changes. Bag itself will be getting warmer smoothly as well as temperature inside the bag.

I heard a good tip after flying in cold conditions where there's more moisture... After drying down the drone, put a silica gel bag in with the gimbal before replacing the gimbal guard. Helps to dry out any moisture around the camera

I use a typical transparent thin plastic bag (which is ment to put bread inside when you pre cut it at the food store), to store a cold drone inside when bringing it inside to a hotter humid environment. That way the moisture that a cold object - the drone - draws from the air stays outside of the bag while it heats up.

I would add to you post shoot actions. I’d also recommend that when you get back home you take your drone out of its bag, take out the battery and allow it a few ours to get back to normal temperature without being in your bag.
The reason I say this is going from freezing cold into a warm house you may get condensation in your kit. If you leave it out and open rather than in your bag. The circulation of air will bring it back up to temp and should help stop condensation.

As for planning, since I do alot of ad hoc road trips, I don't always know what I will have to video and photograph. I usually take a first flight to get an aerial view of the area. I then bring it down, charge the battery again just for good measure while I inspect the pictures on my laptop. Then I can plan the flights. Lastly, you talked about flying from the car. I do that all the time, even taking off from the sun roof instead of the ground or hand-launching.

Haha. Reading the title I thought, "why/how fly in winter". You spotted the number one issue directly.
Snow or sand, nothing for the inner of the drone.
Starting from the hand looks okey but landing in the hand..... mind the fingers or the nail cutter can go to the trash bin... Joking!
High level tips, fear icing on the propellers. As a former pilot, I know what icing can do.
Discharging the battery when flying that ought to create some warming in the battery, but of course, maybe not enough.
My question: what about the remaining battery indication in the controller? Does it reflect the lower capacity or does it provide "dreams"?
    Thanks for the lesson!
