Curious to hear what you guys think! With how good the Mini 4 Pro is, what are the use cases to get a larger drone? Seems to me that most people cover everything they need with this tiny little thing and you get the benefit that it's pocket sized!
I’m running the DJI Mavic Air 2…..and love the mid size
I'm definitely looking at a smaller drone. the costs of the Mavics is too much.
Great video @DavidManningvlog but I'm interested in what it's like following a mountain biker down a hill with lots of trees over head.
First thought was missing San Diego, second thought: Peak design makes great gear. I just got the mini 4 pro and I'm looking forward to taking it out to hike.
I'm looking to swap out my Mavic 2 Pro for the Mini 4 Pro. I also shoot Sony mirrorless and have way too many lenses, so the portability here just seems insane for what will likely also wind up being a better photography drone than my old one (finally getting vertical sensors back).
Especially for a photo focused use-case, I can't really see why you'd want an Air 3 or Mavic 3 Pro outside of focal length variety.
Totally convinced me with your video. Mini 4 pro for xmas it is
i just started using a mini 4 pro as well and this past weekend i took it in my mountain bike ride. oh my gosh ... the feeling of having a drone filming me in the mountains was indescribable. I love watching mountain bike competitions that are recorded with helicopters and drones, I felt like the mountain bike world champion with the drone filming me. i just put the video in my channel if you want to see the outcome. i used to try this recordings with an air2s but the mini4pro is much better with more sensors (lateral), no need for a phone attached to the controller, and the circles that you can easy put the drone werever you want. i loved the mini4pro!!!
I have the DJi Mini 2 and this would be a major upgrade. The tracking is huge! And the obstacle avoidance! 👍🏻
I will definitely be getting the Mini 4 Pro, but you can't beat the 70mm on the Air 3 👍
You can zoom and get 720p 70mm
“you need to change those props and you don’t have the screw driver your screwed” literally! 🤣
I just got the mini 4 pro yesterday as a birthday gift. I did my first flight this morning, and man this thing is absolutely amazing
I thought you gave a real honest opinion on the mini 4 and as you said for most occasions it would be fine! In the uk the sub 250g allows you to fly in build up areas and fly over small groups of people, so that's a big + also
That's crazy to hear actually. So the rules on where you can fly actually change if you're under the 250g limit? For me, that would be a massive reason to go Mini over the larger drones!
@@DavidManningvlog although if you take and pass an exam you can fly drones like the Air 3 or your Mavic classic in built up areas and around but not over uninvolved people.
@@DavidManningvlogThe weight is the only important criterion. Below 250 g (below! Not 250 and above!!!) you have the most rights. But they differ in countries. Dont attach anything to the mini 4, cos it has 249 g with bat and sd card already.
@@DavidManningvlogwhat's crazy about it? I know I'd feel happier having 250 grammes dropping on my head, compared to nearly a kg.
Good stuff man, you never fail to make it fun.
Excellent as Usual!!!
Yeah, that track mode is sick. So much better than I thought it would be.
Thanks for the review David. Just starting on my drone journey and loving it already. Like and subbed. 👌👍
Great post! I'm sold!
Honestly this video was exactly what I was looking for. You got out there and tried it out. That was legit. Much appreciated my guy!
Great video! Been wanting something for mountain biking. BTW, we have a shared vacation condo right there on Sail Bay…..looks like you’re right south of it. 😁👍
Great video! Thrilling to watch you on the skateboard with the drone keeping up. When you talk about « too windy » conditions, what does it translate too i.e. how many k/hr or m/hr ?
Nicely Done! Very informative! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
I love your enthusiasm!! Just bought this drone, not used it outside yet. I got 3 batteries and the RC 2. Excited!
So when you recorded did you have a setting on to get rid of the background noise like wind or even the drone itself? If not that's amazing how quiet it was . Excellent video thanks for the "hard" work you put into your videos.
Woooow it does look amazing. I want something to have on the car and help with traffic. This sure seems like the option
Excellent videos as usual David !
But pleeeeeease, tell me where did you get your cap? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
thanks for the review
Great review and I also love my mini 4 over all my other drones, even the Skydio 2. Oh and you have my subscription.
Great video bro! Love my mini 3 pro!
Awesome video on the mini 4, Totally agree with you on the mini 4 being a very useful drone. I have noticed that high fail rates on the active track is tracking from the side and front, tracking from the rear has been great and she really to go Bro!🤣
I have a few Dji Drones & since I got the mini it's been my go to.. and as you said unless it's a high windy day or I need the extra features the mini serves my purpose. esp just to keep my flying skills sharp.. def want the mini 4...... thanks for your video & feedback Would like to see you go through more of the features on the controller....
Cool video.... I bought one yesterday and did a first flight.... After updates and charging etc.... I had to fly in the dark. I love night flights though. This Mini 4 Pro is AMAZING.
Great Video As Always 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the idea on the bag! I got the sling bag! It’s great with the drone!👍👍👍
I have the Mini 3 Pro and was surprised how well it handles wind. Took it on a trip to Maui last December and it survived the Island's strong winds. I assume the Mini 4 Pro is even better dealing with wind.
Amazing ad, well done!
OMG Bro, just bought the Mini 4 pro after the Air, such a great bit of kit. Love the videos, ps what sunglasses are you wearing they are soooo sweet man! :)
Hey man, nice video, I live in the yukon and I often go north in the tundra where its open and windy. Do you think that the mini pro would be able to get the job done ?
Thanks
I love the new update where you can view what's around you from the obstacle avoidance sensors, and now it can be used via fpv goggles and motion controller, it blows my mind how it does this
You don’t need to register if you are flying under recreational purposes. But if you are Part 107 and making any money with your drone it needs to be registered regardless of its weight.
Exactly probably this video is monetized so you know the rules
Doesn’t the bigger battery make it over the limit?
You still have to register your drone .
In Australia we don't need to if the drone is under 250g and not being used for commerical purposes
@@thecoasties1602yep
I think the reason they went with screwsfor the props is to keep the weight under the 249g, a click mechanism and the supporting post would be heavier than 2 screws.
Interesting take! I guess it does make them more secure🤷♂️
How are you able to sync up the audio from your mic to the drone footage? I’m newer to video editing. Thanks and great review.
Great job on the video David! Thanks for making it. I have talked myself in and out of a drone so many times. Maybe someday...
yoo so same, I have the money but I am still in a stage where I don't know if it's good to own a drone or not. I don't really need it to take pictures, but I just want to have fun. So I don't think buying an expensive dji drone will do it for me but its still so so tempting.
@@epicbots8479I’d wait, or if you do buy one, but an affordable low cost one like the 3-or 4 mini if you like tracking and all the sensors. New laws are in place for 2024 because people have abused their. Fun recreational rights with the drones. So read up what’s allowed and decide which drone you’ll go with. I’m getting the mini 4 pro with the RC2 over the air 3 due to price and weight travels
I do ebike reviews. The mini 4 pro is a must for what I do. I also travel with the mini (I used my Mini 3 Pro before I got the 4) all thru Greece, Bonaire, Africa. You can travel with it pretty easy.
Hello from Scotland dave, love your videos. Not drone related, what are the sunglasses your wearing in this video?
Nicely done, David. You made that fun to watch. Definitely makes me want one...just trying to make a use-case for it. 🙂
The pure fun of it is a solid use case!
@@DavidManningvlog Ha... thats the number one spouse convincer there... David said "Pure Fun" is why :)
Your comment at 18:36 is a little misleading. If your only flying recreationally then yes, no registration is required but once you start flying commercially (Part 107), which is what you're doing in this video, then you need to register any drone. At least that's how I interpret the rules? Great review!
Yeah, totally agree! I think I just look at the vast majority of drone purchasers and they're not going to be flying for work, so why would they buy anything more than a Mini when it's this good now?
A recreational flyer must still pass the FAA UAS Safety Test (TRUST) test so they are aware of the rules. That test is free of charge. If flying recreationally and the drone's weight at take off is under 250 grams, it is not required to be registered if flown under the "Exception for Limited Recreational Operations" rules. Any drone regardless of whether it weighs under 250 grams or not, must be registered with the FAA if it is used as part of a "Part 107" flight. The RPIC (remote pilot in command) must hold a valid/current Part 107 certificate and operate all drones flown for the "furtherance of a business" must be registered with the FAA with the $5 Part 107 registration for three years. Since the video captured by the DJI Mini Pro 4 was included in David's video, David must have a valid/active Part 107 certificate and the drone must have been registered with the FAA and the registration label applied to the drone before it took its first flight that captured video for the David's business/video.
I'm still using the Lowepro Protactic but it's carrying my Sony A7IV/Multiple GMaster Lenses, DJI Air2S/Controller/3 Batteries, 2 GoPro's/batteries/charger, Elgato Streamdeck, Macbook Pro 16" M2 Max, iPad Pro M2 12.9, Multiple 140 wat Gan Chargers, About 10 Cables including HDMI, Thunderbolt, USB-Hubs. I have used it for maybe 3-years, daily and as a digital nomad. My point is only this. The LowePro is a FREAKING Great BAG! No Peak Design anything has lasted me much over a year. Even your old Protactic looks new still.
Oh man, completely agree! LowePro make some incredible bags! Also, make sure you're stretching that back out. With that much in your bag, you must be sore after a long day!
Haha I hear you. I actually forgot my DJI RS2 gimbal is in there too. Such a giant bag. But heavy, yes! Totally. I usually set up a home base and start rotating in what I need which helps. The 2 things that really weigh me down most are the 16" MBP and iPad Pro with keyboard. Without just those two things I feel light as a feather :)@@DavidManningvlog
Hi David - should I upgrade from Mavic Mini 2 - to Mini 4 Pro ? or without extra payments I can switch to Mini 3 Pro ?? Plz can u help with choice ???? Thanks
Great video mate 👍
Does the lens make the f1.7 vs f2.8 difference or is that built into the sensor ?
Would a f1.7 aperture benefit an action cam or it would be worse?
Hey David, met you at Costco a few weeks ago. It was nice meeting. Nice video. If you do end up getting the RC-2, let us know what your experience is with offline maps on the controller. From what I can tell, the max map size that you can download is ~3MB which equates to a map size of approximately 3mi X 2mi. So imagine how many Map snippets you'd have to download just get coverage of the SD metro area. Also after carefully saving a map snippet it appears that when you back in to look at that map snippet it doesn't match the area that you saved. WTH. So some discussion of offline maps on RC 2 would be useful as this might be of interest to others as well. Cheers.🙂
this is great!
Do you know what mic I can pair up with my mini 4 pro? Looking for something that clips onto helmet or collar to capture voice/break wind on dirtbike rides!
Five Stars Video!!! Thank you!
Quick help!! The slow motion is the only way to get 100fps. Are there any settings I can adjust or I just have to film short slomo and speed it up in post to use it? Otherwise it's like 10 minute videos
✊very helpful thanks
I love watching your videos because you are local, so you're always filming in locations that I recognize. As soon as I saw your first shot, I thought, "I love Mission Bay." lol
Great video! Thanks for the skill share link I just signed up.
Yes still need the big drones people always say this in between releases wait for mavic 4
Great review thanks! I did hear it's better to use the new batteries with the new drone not the old batteries . Different power outputs.
Great video bro
It looks like the PAKT anywhere 5L sling? is that correct?
Nice upgrade even from the Mini 3 Pro, image quality, 360 obstacle avoidance, active-tracking advanced features, and way-points flight are the biggies.
Dee Jay and Eye!
so if i was fishing and wanted to be tracked or followed by this drone how is it done? can't hold the remote and fish at the same time.
I’ve only just got a mini 4 pro in uk as my first drone & I’m excited to start using it
Similar drone laws over there in the UK?
I bought this drone, I "upgraded" or what you will call it, from my DJI magic PRO 2, (I still own it). But I never use it because if the size, it doesn't fit in my backpack with all my gear for photographing wild animals, but this one! Mini 4 pro, what a beauty, fits like a charm and I think it's the drone you have with you that matters, so I would not choose any other drone over this one! I love it!
Yeah, I think that's a great point. When your drone is larger, you rarely keep it with you. It's so dang easy to keep a Mini in your backpack when it only takes up one little slot in your pack!
@@DavidManningvlog 100% 🤝
I beleove the screw on props are a conscesion to weight. Honestly if you are going to carry spare props ...how hard is it to keep the screw driver in the same little pocket?
Sounds great to me! Small, light, not terribly expensive.
How long does the standard battery run in a real world test? The plus battery gets 30 mins in a hover.
Hi sir dji mini is one of Great drone made by dji ,Great video👍
Great video. I need a van like that!
Are you screen recording with an iPhone?
Yes sir! Screen recording on the phone while flying and then lining them up in post to be able to fade from the video footage to controls👍
Great video! My only gripe with the screen built-in into the controller RC2 is I can’t use any other device while I’m flying. I used to hook up my iPad so I could get a better view and that’s not an option with the new remote as far as I know. Could you please look into that and let us know if there is a way to use a phone or an iPad or any other device with the RC 2. Great content.
you can use a usbc to hdmi adapter.
@@foam27 thank you. I bought one not too long ago, but kind of clumsy.
This is off topic but I wonder if you know the answer to this issue. How I can set the height on my Mini 4 Pro to 50 feet instead of the default minimum of 65 feet? Asked for LAANC permission and it said I could fly up to 50 feet then was unable to fly. The drone defaults to a minimum of 65 feet.
In the US:
If you're flying commercially, then there's no difference between under and over 250g drones.
If you're flying recreationally, then there's a huge difference, but yes you're still flying mostly under Part 107 rules.
In Canada:
Regardless of whether it's commercial or recreational, sub 250 drones are operating under a VERY small subset of the normal rules.
No flying in Class F restricted areas
No flying in Transport Canada restricted areas (via NOTAMs)
No flying in or near forest fire management areas
No flying over or in National Parks
And CAR 900.06 - no flying impaired, recklessly or in a manner that might cause harm to people or property and especially to other aircraft.
That's it.
Nice review. Im a cyclist and would like to see more on the POI tracking feature as I ride me my bike in the back country or climb hills.
I would love to see how well the tracking function on this drone works when the subject that's being tracked isn't in possession of the controller but rather the distance between the drone and the controller increases while the subject is being tracked.
i have the mavic pro 2, debating if i need the mini pro 4
Im getting the mini 4 pro, my next one will definitely be a mavic, i think an optical zoom lens is needed on a drone
The 250 g weight is more of a big deal in the UK and Europe. In the UK you have to stay 50 m from uninvolved people and 150 m from buildings unless you have a drone under 250 g, then you can fly it as close to people or buildings as you want as long as you don't put anyone in danger.
Wow so good video
David, as always, good video. Keeping a drone under 250 grams is a significant advantage when traveling abroad. I possess both my Part 107 and EU license, allowing me to legally fly my Mavic 3 in the US and EU. However, in Mexico, I cannot legally fly a drone weighing over 249 grams, as only Mexican citizens are eligible for drone licenses.
I can fly a drone weighing under 250 grams without any legal restrictions. The major benefit of opting for a Mini is to stay within this weight limit. Therefore, acquiring an extended battery may not be the best idea if your primary goal is to fly legally without a license.
I have the Min 4 Pro - upgrade from Mini 3 Pro cost me less than $150 accessories included, I also have Air 3 and Mavic 3 Pro, I have trouble making choices, lol. I fly Air 3 and Mini 4 Pro more than the Mavic 3 just because they are so good, but then you want the big boy for the Hasselblad, and now Vision Assist Had OG Mavic 3, a painful release with not features and buggy as hell. DJI learned some hard lessons about releasing early. The sales don't make up for the reputational harm.
The Mini 4 Pro is the best Mini drone ever. Great review, thanks for sharing.
huh?
I have the Mavic pro #1 first gen that came out in 2017 and I would love to upgrade to this lmao
That is true with 100% of all my electronics in just the past 5-10 years, as I also have the 2016 Macbook Pro.
It's as if we've peaked technologically vs what we actually need in life. Every new advancement now falls in the "want" category, not the "need" category. If you need a drone, the Mini 4 probably ticks off everything you need, but if you want more features or a crazier camera system, then you can step up
@@DavidManningvlog My Mavic 2 Zoom is cool and scary enough for me, there is no need to upgrade as we don't know how small DJI is going to get.
Mini 4 pro is a great drone, but it has no 3x camera like the Air and Mavic 3 pro does. Multiple focal lengths is a game changer, it’s hard to go back to one wide camera.
How do you treat the footage to post on CZcams. I notice your footage looks quite different from my results. That's for David or anyone reading this that has any advice. Ty!
18:49 "DGI" This is why you only get one battery and no RC remote 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
always love the content and format David, nice work! 👏👏 think a lot of folks enjoy the minis, and will continue to enjoy them. but personally, I just cannot see myself going back to a single-camera system. as creatives, have two or three lens options in the air is one of the best inventments I've made in the drone space - for personal & commercial work. the other factor, for me, is the dissapointment looking at the quality from the minis. It stings badly coming back from an exciting and rad shoot, only to see the IQ is subpar - esp in low light. i know the minis have a place & purpose, but to me its def worth an extra $1000 to not be dissapointed in footage now, let alone 5yr from now. Anyone that has been flying for a while knows this cringey feeling lol ....
I received my Mini Pro 4 two days ago, weather outside is snow and rain and I havent been able to fly it yet, hate our climate in sweden. anyway drone is awsome and the little I have done with it its just amazing
I have the Mini 1 SE and want to upgrade to this
I've been watching some stuff on this drone in particular because I've heard so many great things about it, and seeing the quality of it made me wanna get it all the more! However I'm a photographer and I focus mainly on seascape, coastal and surf shots. Never actually flown a drone and I need one that'll be good against a decent amount of wind. Would you recommend going up to the Mavic 3 Pro or would the Mini 4 pro work fine? Thanks!
Some will say it handles well. But I say after owning a slightly bigger model I would stick to the bigger models. I don’t care for my mini 4 pro just yet.
David you need to get hold of the Hover x1 drone to show on your channel! I'm sure you would find a great reason to show the ability and use to some with this drone!
I agree, I have the X1 & the Mini4pro, they both complement each other really well. In fact I’m just putting together a video of using the X1 with my Onewheel
I have the DJI Mine 3 Pro and TBH upgrading to the 4 pro is a waste of money IMO. Most of the Upgrades can be done by Firmware, especially the Active track but hey? that would mean DJI missing out on more profit, right?
Don't do this to me, David. Haha. I was able to talk myself out of looking at this since I upgraded to the Mavic 2 Pro earlier this year, but after seeing the active track... I might have to reconsider.
Great review, which skate board were you on?
Evolve Hadean! That thing is a beast!
@@DavidManningvlog my wife would kill me if I got one but it looks brilliant (from the perspective of a 57 year old teenager), I used to have a Santa Cruz back in the 70s with Kriptonics… still miss it, closest I get is Snowboarding oh and mountain biking
I wonder if I could record vertical for reels?
Weight limits are a big part of flying over streets and people? At least in the USA?
It's funny but not really because I live in New Zealand everything is twice the price as anywhere else if not more but I just got a DJI Mini 4 pro and it cost me just on $2000 with the fly more combo. That's what you get for living at the bottom of the world. Makes great drone footage 🚁🏴☠️
Woooooow! That's quite the price hike! I'm hoping we get to New Zealand soon and I will absolutely have my Mini 4 Pro with me!
David you need to register that drone AND you need a part 107 license. In your case you are using the drone for commercial work (ie, your CZcams channel) so the drone has to be registered regardless of the weight. 250 gram limit only applies to recreational flying.
Additionally, because you are flying under commercial use, you'll need a part 107 license, although I'd suspect you already have one of those since you have the bigger drone, right ;)
**Trying to think of a way to justify buying another drone to my wife** 🤔
Great video David 👍🏻
Try buying one FOR your wife. 😂
Hahhaaa!🤣
I flew my Mini 4 Pro near some mountains near my home. I was careful to maintain enough altitude and not fly behind anything. At just over 1000m distance the weak remote signal warning popped up. The Mini 4 Pro was on my side of the mountain and visible by my spotter with binoculars. How can the range be advertised up to 20km when it has difficulty at just over 1km?
How were you doing the audio while using the drone to follow you on your skateboard?
Rode Wireless Pro rigged up in my helmet👍
I have the mini 4 pro and I perfect using my phone
