    Thanks so much for the review, it means a lot that hopefully more HQ fans will find this and use it to create their own adventures. I always welcome feedback and suggestions, so feel free to get in touch if you have any! Thanks again ☺️
    Edit: You do mention in the video about saving the quests. They use the local storage on the browser, so should stay persistent (unless this is deliberately cleared by the user). The download/upload does allow you to backup your quest list though. And the cloud saving allows you to save your quests to the cloud so you can pull them down to any device you wish. You can also choose to share your quests via a URL if you wish.

      Regarding saving, I did mention the download and upload options for backing up your work, but I specifically said it would be nice to have the option to easily save as a pdf. (I say easily, because I can save the work as a pdf from Chrome's options, but I just would have liked to see a button to make that a one click process.)

    • @hquestbuilder
      @hquestbuilder Před 2 lety +2

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring If you use the print option in the browser, most should give you the option to print to a PDF now. Although the map lines can come out strange sometimes, the PDF should physically print as intended. Hope that helps!

      @@hquestbuilder as I said in my previous comment I know how to do it that way but a lot of people won’t do it would be nice to have an easier option.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Apologies, I didn't see that part of the comment for some reason. Yes, a 'Print to PDF' option would be great, and I have explored it, sadly the coding libraries to perform those directly from the page are pretty complex, and likely to have very limited results. I may put in a 'Hints and Tips on Saving/Printing' call to action in the compose view to address this though... you're right, a lot of folks don't know about that print to PDF option within browsers.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před 2 lety

      I posted the comment then instantly edited it because I realised I wasn't being clear enough, so you may have seen it in the short interval between the edit. It's by no means the end of the world, but my first instinct was to look for a "save to pdf" button rather than going through the "print > save as" option, and as you have clearly made the tool as accessible and easy to use as possible for everyone, I was expecting saving options that are just as obvious. Some kind of note would help, I think.

    Look easy to use.
    As a kid I love to make quest. I'm sure that kid of today can create tons of cool quest.
    To save as pdf just print it as a pdf. Et voila 😎

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před 2 lety

      As I have said numerous times, I know you can do a save as PDF from the print option, that wasn't the point I was making. I said I would have liked to see the option to save as a pdf from that screen. Not everybody knows about the various different print options, and it makes the application more transparent. If you're making an application that is clearly intended to be as simple and transparent as possible, go the extra mile.

    As for saving to PDF, when you're going to print, go to your printer list abd instead of your printer, select "print to PDF", that should sort you out! 🙂👍

      I know how to save as pdf through the printer options. I wasn’t very clear in what I was saying at that point. What I meant was I would have liked to see a one-click save option there.

    Well that's my art GCSE down the drain, lol.
    But really this looks a great tool, the people behind it have done a great job recreating all those tokens and really allowing for a complete (used loosely) map building tool. Thanks for sharing I'll definitely use this for my own HeroQuest set and my future HQ content on my channel.

    I stumbled across this myself a few days ago. It's very impressive that it let's you switch icon types on the fly. Very clever. Maybe it would be worth doing some kind of community shared/collab quest creation/playthrough down the line?
    I've been having a lot of fun homebrewing my own new heroes with spell cards etc for my niece and nephew.

  • @play4ever590
    @play4ever590 Před 2 lety +5

    I recently looked for quest designer tools and what I found was this one and heroscribe. It seems that the latter has way more icons from all the other expansion and it is great for me who want to create highly customized quests, but on the other side I didn't find any tool for writing quest notes with heroscribe whereas hquestbuilder has something like that. So... they are both really worth! But I still don't know which is the best for what I need

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před 2 lety +2

      Heroscribe has been around for a long time so is probably more feature rich. I've never personally used it though. I liked how accessible this option was, but I think everyone will settle on one they prefer. Good luck with your dungeon designs!

    • @hquestbuilder
      @hquestbuilder Před 2 lety +5

      I couldn't actually get HeroScribe to run, hence the creation of hQuestBuilder. It will likely never get as fully featured as HeroScribe, but it's device agnostic, and pretty easy to compose quests on 🙂

    I guess for the classic heroes and expansion quest is they are available for everyone while the mythic tier\tier goals are more exclusive. The designer probably went with what most people have and not want to leave out those who want to use the other game pieces they don't have in real life. I fully expect more quests, like the barbarian, will be added once Hasbro comes out with them.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před 2 lety

      I expect it's just because it's a work in progress still. The creator is clearly going to be adding more features.

    • @hquestbuilder
      @hquestbuilder Před 2 lety

      There are plans to add more expansions for sure. I will likely add them as they release, so I can get the updated graphics to pair with the older sets. The lack of the mythic tier icons is tricky as there aren't any that can be matched to the old styles... unless I have some interested graphic designers! (There is actually an old style Abomination icon easter egg if you can find him!)
      There are Homebrew icons that allow pretty much infinite variations of icons too.

      @@hquestbuilder Is there a limit on the number of quests that can be made for a campaign? The current longest is 14 for the original book and one of the mythic tier books.

      @@jasonsumma1530 as hQuestBuilder uses the localStorage in your browser to save your quests you can create a very large volume of quests... so no, there's no limit. I'd recommend you back up your quest list to a .hqb file though, just in case you do lose the locally saved version of your quest list. I hope that helps/answers your question 🙂

      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před 2 lety +1

      I hadn't got that far in the new edition yet, but I just checked it and yes you're absolutely right, there is a second door missing, which should be situated on the left wall on the space by the stair tile. That's quite an annoying oversight because it really isn't very obvious there is anything missing to begin with.
