Back in the 1980s, custom 3D controls were used to arrange three-dimensional renders for realistic placement and motion in relation to one another. There was a reiteration of this idea using a trackball-style controller that was sold to the gaming market. It flopped because in part it was ahead of its time, cost too much, and was somewhat buggy. Perhaps you should do some research into this topic before making assumptions that your ideas are novel predictions of how this could be used to contrast it with how it already has been used.
Where is it? I'm waiting. I approve of the use of holograms for most things except for maybe...uh...video conferences for work...lol
Back in the 1990s, the U.S. military did buy a bunch of Magic Crystal hologram displays that showed real time 3D placements of their various assets in a live theater of war. The top of the display was hemispherical. The base held the computer tech of off the shelf Intel or AMD hardware. With an update to the projection system and the computer power, these types of volumetric hologram displays would still be beneficial for that use.

Google Earth in VR is already better than seeing just a hologram. It's already possible to design in 3d in VR.
Just imagine yourself wearing a device like that from Horizon Zero Dawn or The Smart Contact Lenses that you wear on your eyes that could project Holographic Images of A Keyboard and Options within your view.
Allowing u to touch one of those options.
Have it Bluetooth Enabled, and you could control your phone.
Play Mode, Internet Search, Shopping, Music, Video, and Settings with Security in mind.
There's always a Take Me Back To Safety button, Exit Program, and a Escape button.
Erases the Bad History as soon as you are taken back to safety or you close the program.
Hear And See Translation In Many Languages.
Can be removed when not in use.

Nope not really excited about this technology. Besides we've got augmented reality headsets now so that's pretty much the same thing at least as far as your mind is concerned!
