  • California has changed and NOT in a good way! Wow!
I sent a month driving around California on a road trip. I saw devastating homelessness, amazing ocean views and interesting desert communities. California has a lot to love, but this place sure has changed a lot.
It's been said that as California goes, so goes the rest of the nation. Well, that might be troubling if we all follow California's lead.
Here's an unedited view of my month-long road trip through California.

I live in Romania, and I never encounter such poverty in my life. It looks like a third country. And, when you think that the main problem of the politicians in the U.S. is the suffering of men trapped inside a woman's body or a woman in a man's body and not these unfortunate people that live in the street... it's crazy!

I agree. The politicians have deflected the real problems in this country such as homelessness, a broken education system, allowing corporations to pollute the environment, and a medical system that can deny a necessary surgery to save a life. We are moving to Northern Maine close to Canada.

About 30 years ago I lived in Ukraine and Russia (extreme North) and in my wildest dreams I would never thought that America looks like this. Later on I moved to Canada and became a truck driver. I covered hundreds of thousands of miles across United States and Canada for 22 years and I witnessed all this myself. Sometimes we live in imaginary world based on stereotypes and myths and it can be destroyed within minutes or hours once you look at it from inside.

I am from Mumbai, India. We have the largest slum in Asia, but within that are ppl with all amenities, incldg fridge, ACs, computers etc but no 'proper housing'. Some places have community toilets, etc, but in this video, I see nothing of the kind.
    I see 2 issues:
    1. Hiding a reality doesn't work. If it's public, people will help (like we do in India, we keep talking about it, and government listens).
    2. Imagine this! In 20 years, the US government wasted $2 trillion in Afghan war only to replace Taliban with Taliban
If half that money was spent here, it'd have kept lives liveable
But... the Miltary Establishment has more 'urgent' issues.

Nobody can afford housing and most industries packed up and left due to taxes and labor costs. There is not much gray area between poverty and elitism. I am middle class, and make a decent living, but had I not bought a house 10 years ago I couldn’t afford in today’s economy. Also, many wealthier people own multiple homes and they only rent them out as VRBO for crazy amounts of money. A working class person cannot afford rent. Small towns are in dire condition as well. Companies such as Amazon destroyed small companies. They cannot compete so they are boarding up. It’s a nightmare scenario.

There is no way out if it because both parties are corrupt and LOVE the money they get from big corporations. Neither of them care to better the living conditions of the poor… because taking advantage of people and their work load is what got them their wealth!
The only thing that could fix it would be a TRUE government and system change.
The US suffers from capitalism in the terminal stage.
THIS is where no public healthcare, good public education and no unions in big companies lead you to…
Workers rights in the US are the equivalent to those of the 1850 basically everywhere else?
The American dream is for the rich to get and stay rich and for everyone else? Well the rest gets poorer by the minute.
And what are all citizens fed? The lie that if you just work hard enough you will be at the top one day… but that is not how it works.
No one working 3 jobs will ever get there because those jobs? 95% if what you generate goes straight into your bosses pocket, if you’re lucky you get 2% of that as your salary and that’s without tax deductions.
Those jobs were not made to get you wealthy or even provide a good life, they were meant to generate more wealth for the higher ups…
But somehow the US managed to tell her citizens that lie and profited off of it! Not only do people work hard and harder because they want to "make" it, generating a lot of wealth.
NO! They are also against everything that might sound even a little bit "communist" like paying for a good general education everyone can benefit from or public healthcare that actually is worth its money! No, they are also against unions!
THE tool against big companies taking advantage of you, the tool to fight for worker rights… because people don’t want to restrict the power of the 1% in fear that once they "made it" they would also be restricted!
      It’s truly f-ed up!
Americans going against their own people, against themselves, suffering greatly from it, WILLINGLY, because they still dream about being super rich and they don’t want them to lose their privileges in fear they would also not have them when they get there…
The truth is, they will never get there and instead of being realistic about it they rather relax, lay back while being fed bullshit and actively sabotage any attempt to make life better for the middle and lower classes…

Also, this video involves a lot of cherry-picking to show some of the worst spots. I am an American from a poor region in Colorado and recently moved to Slovakia to be with my wife, who is Slovak. I miss the US! I see its value more now than I did while it was all I knew, especially in the basic core value of freedom. Seeing what has become of my home state just tears me in two.
I was born in Los Angeles and grew up middle class in the East San Gabriel Valley about 20 miles east of LA. Mom was born and raised in LA, and my dad was from eastern Ohio.
Our neighborhood was working class, lots of families from all over ethnically. My maternal grandparents lived nearby and I spent as much time there as at my own home. Rode my bike all over the place, enjoyed the climate and we kids had a good life. But somewhere along the way, apparently things were changing, and mom didn't like it.
By the late 70s she was urging my dad to plan to move north. So we uprooted and moved hundreds of miles, and it was a culture shock for me. It was only a temporary fix, as same issues cropped up a few years down the line. Left for the military in 1985, came back after, moved away for good in 1993.

Homelessness in America has NOTHING to do with government corruption. The real problem is that the US Constitution in no way mandates that the Fed Govt is responsible for the welfare of The People. I only realized that recently when I discovered FDR's proposal for an Economic Bill of Rights in 1945, just before he died. These were a set of Constitutional Amendments that would guarantee all citizens a place to live, a job, medical care, education, and more. However, this idea died with FDR. Reality is that among the various "rights" that Americans enjoy are the Right to Starve to Death, and the Right To Be Homeless, all with no government interference. Lucky us !!! Consider that NONE of the food banks and soup kitchens either now or going back to the Great Depression have been supplied or run by the Govt, but but by private charities and private donations.

That's what they've done because they don't like the food they throw it away and beg for money from people in their homes. I know how I would show them my hospitality and welcome them. I returned to visit about fifteen years ago and it just reinforced all the reasons I had left in the first place. The California that I had grown to love was now history.

California is the land of haves and have not with a diminishing middle class between them. I was born in Long Beach in the 50's. My parents were middle class, we had a home, one car, and my mother stayed at home until I was in the 5th grade. Most of my family has moved out of state and I am here alone worried that I might become homeless. The cost of groceries, gas, and everything else has just skyrocketed these last 2 years.

I came from Brazil 2 years ago. These were the saddest memories I will forever carry with me : the empty parking lots with people suffering from drug addiction, the homelessness in the downtown area , the amount of car break-ins.
For me in America you are responsible for your own success and well being . The people that make money have endless oportunities to make more money and have access to any luxurious items (including private doctors). On the other hand if for some reason you can't make enough money nothing comes for free. Vaccines for example , in Brazil you could get your child vaccinated at any neighborhood in any town as long as you wake up early and wait in line . In Charlotte if you tried getting vaccines in September 2022 the next availability was for December. Poor people don't even have easy access to birth control, to buy contraceptives here you need prescription from a doctor and even when you get you are bound to that one pharmacy your doctor sent the prescription to.

The worst part is majority of these people on the streets don’t even want help. So many addicts are comfortable living this way, and if given a better opportunity they would take full advantage and trash whatever their given. They can’t even keep themselves clean let alone their makeshift homes, the streets, public areas. Everything is completely trashed. The majority couldn’t care less and only know how to take instead of give back.. and a good amount of these people just genuinely don’t want to work towards anything. Addiction, mental health and bad habits play a huuuge part.

I'd been back to my hometown many times (grandma still lived there) and to surrounding communities to see aunts and uncles, cousins and nieces/nephews. Moved permanently out of California in 1993. I miss what it was. I don't miss the crowds, crime, cost of living, homeless and bums, drugs, trash, loss of the middle class, lack of pride in community.... you name it.
