Is this the UK’s Hardest Parkrun?

- This will be my 10th ever Parkrun, and to celebrate we've come out to Woolacombe Dunes in North Devon, to attempt one of the UK's hardest and slowest 5k courses.
Running up the famous but daunting DUNE OF DOOM was tough, but it was evened out by the more calmly named, Slope of Hope. Trails, beaches and soft-packed, steep sand dunes were only one part of the problem, as the temperature was below freezing for this one! So big thanks to all the marshalls and volunteers, using their own free time in the bitter cold to make an event like today happen.
We'll meet some great people along the way such as Marty, as well as one happy dog Harley and his owner Craig, who had travelled from Bude for this one!
Some sad news heard at this event too, as it was announced that a local runner had passed away recently. I did not know him myself, but my thoughts and condolensces go out to their family and friends.

I marshal at Woolacombe Dunes most weeks, and its always a pleasure to see visitors enjoying our wonderful course. Thanks for making a great video - come back soon.
What a lovely thing to do, takes some dedication to Marshall in the freezing cold so my respect goes out to you and the other volunteers. It really is a fantastic course, and will definitely be back in the near future!
You legend! Thank you for doing what you do.
This is definitely one for my list. Lovely course and a real challenge. Great job!👍
Thanks Tony, and have fun whenever you get to do it!
This has to be on the to do list - looks great - thanks for filming it 👍🏻🏃♂️💨💨
Yeah it’s an awesome run! Have fun whenever you get to visit! 🏃♂️
Nice park run. Dune of doom. First time watching. New subscriber. Best wishes with your training and to your channel. Here's to a great 2024.
Thank you, same to you! 💪 🏃
Looks incredible!! Great work getting around it 🫡
Yeah it’s a stunning course! Cheers 🫡
Great run at Woolacombe Connor. We met at Barntaple when i was tail walker. Apoligies for rhe dogs making a racket at the start of the run! One was mine - Sigris . The other was my sisters - Coco. You passed my daigther at the start shes was in purple hoodie amd orange hat. Keep going. Keeping inspiring people. Big shout out to Chris who did your bar code scanning hes a legand with 500 plus parkruns under his belt. Was cold that day!
Thanks Mike! You and Sigris seem to be everywhere, didn’t realise that was you until this comment. Oh cool you’ve got most of the family on parkrun diaries now then! Wow 500!? That’s the most I’ve heard of, great stuff. And will do Mike, we’ve been invited to the Library for a wellbeing cafe as well as the jobcentre, so hopefully the word will start getting out and more people will take up running and make changes. It was absolutely freezing that day yes, must have been colder for you being the tailwalker 🥶
Well done! Great video and nice to meet you as you overtook me. 😂
You must be Steve then wearing the green No.10 top. It was good to meet you too! Your Parkrun stats are brilliant, over 300 total and was it was also your first at Woolacombe. That’s some dedication! 💪 🏃
Thanks Connor! Great times from you too. Sub 20 not far off. Keep up the good work.
Cheers Steve will do! :)
Done my first ever parkrun today, feeling great. Very entertaining video!
Awesome well done for your first one! Hopefully many more to come 😊 How did you find it?
@@addict2athlete Great, running in a group is way different than running alone. Although I am still not feeling the best after a cold I had recently, I managed to do the run in 28 mins.
Yeah it is, I find it helps to push you though. That’s a great time considering the cold as well. Hope you feel better soon and keep up the great work! 💪 🏃
Great video👍
Cheers, should have some more like this soon!
Nice video,well done
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks! :)
I did my first parkrun yesterday! 80 minutes, but I did it! This parkrun looks scary to me lol
Nice one James well done for completing your first one! Hopefully the first of many more? 🏃♂️ Yeah the beach run and dune climb is a leg killer!
That looks nice!
It’s lovely there, I imagine in the summer it would get a lot of participants, but it’s a stunning course and I highly recommend it! Winter makes it a bit easier as the sand is more compact
Looks fun here in south africa in the eastern cape we have a beach run half on sand half on cement testing little run but i am getting there💪🏻
Wow that sounds like a good one to do, Well done mate keep it up! 💪 🏃
parkrun - “always one word, always lower case” (it’s a brand!)
Sorry Nemesis, I’ve changed fonts since that video as it makes the writing all uppercase. Plus lowercase titles on CZcams really affect my OCD. But I do try to use all lowercase when I can
Gonna add Watergrove to this on the Lancs/ Yorks border .
Just checked out the course for Watergrove. Looks like a fantastic course for difficulty and scenery!
Looks decent… you wanna try The Wyre Forest …. It’s up down .. up down… finishes on a steep hill
Just seen the course, it looks like great fun but hard work. I love trail running so might have to give that one ago in the future! Thanks for the suggestion
No noooo no heaton park is so much harder! I did it yesterday and those hills are killa I can't even walk today!
Haha I hope your legs have recovered a bit! Is that the one that’s starts off with a 1km hill? I’ll have to look into doing Heaton Park in the future 😃
Are there any parkruns actually in parks anymore?!
Haha beachruns doesn’t sound quite right does it!
at least its only one lap
In answer to your query, nope, not statistically. That would be Great Yarmouth North Beach for the UK, Not that Parkrun want us to have easy access to statistics going forward, going by recent news.
Still very much worth a go though, as with any parkrun, and has been challenging people for far longer than the new pretender.
Seems the beaches are the toughest courses and it’s not so much about elevation. I’ve heard of a few difficult courses with lots of elevation but the ones with sand seem to make it tough all round.
Yeah this is a really great course and I highly recommend it if people are in the area.
