- Hey guys!
This is part one of the crochet tapestry "silly goose" bag!
I've been making a lot of crochet tapestry lately and figured I would create a tutorial to help you guys learn as well. Part 2 shows you how to make this into a cute little shoulder bag.
If you know how to make a single crochet, you should be able to understand how to make this!

This is an EXCELLENT tutorial. I’m an avid crocheter, but I’ve never done tapestry. This explained absolutely everything. Also, your kitty is delightful.

I'm glad you enjoyed! thank you :)
YOUR EDGES ARE SO CLEAN!!!! 😮😮😮😮
I truly appreciate this! I want to make a tapestry crocheted blanket of something special to me but I’ve never done it before.
A step by step tutorial is so helpful for beginners.
I'm glad it was helpful! good luck on the blanket!
You're a legend!!! I've been trying to find a way to colour change on the WS while keeping the stitches the same as the RS! Tysm ❤
You're welcome! I'm happy this resonated with so many people
Thank you so much, the patern is really cute and you explained it very well! 😊
you're welcome! thank you :)
this is a game changer!!!! you are awesome, thanks for taking the time to show your technique. ❤❤❤❤❤
no problem! glad it helps
thank you so much for this!!!! i’ve tried tapestry crochet before but i would only change color by completing the stitch with the color you’re switching to, and i could never figure out why every other one of my rows would look weird. i’m trying the new technique now for those rows across the back and i’m excited to hopefully have it turn out good this time!!!!
I hope it works out for you! Idk if there is a better way but this one seems to do the trick for me
@@jadecordial it did end up working!!! it turned out so so much better and i’m so excited about it!! thank you again :)
Amazing thank you!
Thank youuuuu!!! My stitches looked so weird and I couldnt figure out what was wrong :-:
Why are you so underratedd😢😢 THIS IS SO AMAZINGGG❤❤
Aww that's sweet, thank you!

It would be helpful if you explained what you used to turn photos into grids to create the tapestry. (the link takes you to a food page on Pinterest)
I usually don't do that. I tend to use a grid that I find on Pinterest pre-made. But if I were to, I would use the stitch fiddle website. You could use that to get a general idea of how to make your photo into a gridded pattern. I'm pretty sure you can create your own grid from scratch on there as well!
thaks so much for making this tutorial! i noticed that my stitches for the first two rows of orange yarn look uneven and there are gaps between the v's. however, the third row with the 5 orange stitches look fine. i was wondering if you have any solution to this? is it because of the color change or maybe my tension is too tight?
Hello, can you please drop your pinterest? Because I wanted to look thro your crochet inspiration, you had so many cool patterns saved. Btw I adore your videos🫶
THANK YOU I have been losing my mind the number of stiches per row would just decrease as I go on :(
10:45 My second colour is very far away so not easy to recover it gives a big line 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
You could cut and add the second color in again to get rid of the line or just try the row again and bring the color with you!
hey! this video was perfect for me, ur explanation is so concise
you can totally do it the same way. but i've found that when you do it the same way, the first stitch that you change colors on ends up looking kind of incomplete when you view it on the front. so i decided to find a new way to change colors on the back to try and mitigate the issue. you may find that you don't see a difference at all! in that case, you can just change colors the "normal" front side way
@@jadecordial i just tried doing it and i totally see what you mean!! thank you again
I love this tutorial, can't wait to try it out. What yarn are you using? ❤
big twist and red heart size 4 acrylic yarns are what i use for mostly everything i make! i think the green is red heart "sage"
@@jadecordial thanks! Im never sure what brands are best lool
@@hoshilove95 i just what what is at my local craft store. we only have joann fabrics/ walmart here so whatever i can find that i like i get! and bonus if it’s on sale haha
Hi! How do you know when it’s front or back? Do you just choose which one you’d prefer? I loved this video it was so easy to understand, thank youuuu
The first row you start the color changing just treat it like a front row and then alternate from there! the front is the good side and the back is the side you'll keep all the loose strands on
@@jadecordial Thanks so much for replying!!
Hii, love the pattern. Just a quick question, how much yarn did u use for the background? (meters or yard) and what size hook?
i don't know how much exactly and a 5mm hook
hello, I tried this technique but my stitches ended up being diagonal and leaning towards the right side, any idea why?
hi! i love this so much it's so cute!! do u have the link to the grid thingy? i can't find it in the description TvT
yes I do! I forgot to add that haha. It should be in the description now!
@@jadecordial thank u so much
If I were to try and make a sweater the requires tapestry crocheting, would I leave the back as is or do I cut and sew in the ends?
I guess it depends on how messy the back is! I would probably cut and hide the ends or they would bother me. You could also hand sew a soft piece of fabric on the inside of the sweater to cover that part up.
hey! when you worked on the front side you did half of the last color completed the stitch with the next, but on the back side you finished each color stitches... may I ask if that makes the stitches neater? im completely new to this type of crochet, thank you!!
I think it makes it look neater! You can always test out both ways on the back side and see what you like best :)
@@jadecordial thanks!! 😊
Hello, Thanks for the video. I have some questions.
I tried this method, It looks better than I used other method. But the front side's pattern looks still not clean like you. Should I use a smaller needle to make it tighter and more gapless? Or do I have to pull the yarn very tightly when I change the color of the yarn?
I make sure to pull the yarn really tight as I change colors, especially on the back!
@@jadecordial thank you. I will try once again 😆
Does or matter what end you start with when you are left handed? The graph
Just make sure you are reading left to right when you are crocheting a "front" row and right to left when on a "back row". I prefer to start the color changing process on the front of a row so at the first color change just start reading from left to right on that row!
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I always wanted to get into tapestry crochet and this was perfect!!!❤❤
Can i ask how much yarn i need for this???
One skein of the background color should be enough and then a small amount of white and even smaller amounts for black and orange
Hi! Just wondering, what yarn are you using in this project?
Size 4 acrylic! Big twist for the green and other random ones for the rest
@@jadecordialthank you! 🙏🏻
I've done a few of these crochet tapestry patterns. My issue is that they always come out inverted, and I have no clue what I'm doing wrong. I haven't seen anyone talk about it so I am just confused about how to fix it.
If you are crocheting right handed, the first row after chaining would be worked from right to left. The bottom most row of your pattern needs to be read from right to left. And then the following row (which would be the back of your work) you would read from left to right. That should keep it from inverting!
Or you could invert the grid before you start and keep crocheting how you already are haha
Which kind/brand yarn did you use and also what size ? ❤
size 4 and the green is red heart yarn i believe. I like to buy the big twist brand from joann fabric usually though.
I cant find where to print out the pattern
The link to the grid is in the description! If you click on that then it should take you to Pinterest and you can save the photo to your laptop or phone!
To change colors you do not finish the sc with the old color first
I do. But only if i'm changing colors on the back side of the project. But you don't have to do that. It looks crisper in the end though
She completed the stitch and got great results. I've never done it that way, but I'm going to try it today! :)
I cant open the link for the grid 😢
if you copy and paste into your browser it may work! or go to bracelet book.com and type in the pattern number
Hi, What is the hook and yarn size?
size 4 yarn and 5mm hook
15:18 kitty
she's so silly
27:29
It’s so hard i cannot 😐
The first time I made a tapestry it was so frustrating! But if you keep at it, it starts to make more sense
Good work but this is not tapestry crochet, it is intarsia crochet if you don't carry the yarn all the way way.
I suppose so!
I second @mnda99's comment> 'This is the best tutorial I have seen on tapestry crochet, thank you'
thank you! i'm glad to help :)
