My grandad on my fathers side was one of those “I don’t need to go see the doctor” kind of people, he passed from cancer that if he had just gone to go see the doctor could have been caught early

Story 4: it's annoying when people don't take allergies seriously but at the least finally realized that his kid's allergy was a medical condition.

Working with people, never rely on verbal instructions. I've seen people whom I've clearly instructed what needs to be done and that they would be screwed if they don't do it. Discuss it multiple times on the same appointment for emphasis. They would still not follow professional advice and complain that what I've warned them would happen, happened. Always get it in writing and have them sign paperwork as proof.

My father is a great example. Doctors told him to change his diet or he would die. He suffered from several seizures, strokes, blood clots, etc. had to have several surgeries to replace parts of his cardiovascular system. Lost several toes and half a leg due to poor circulation due to his high fat diet that his mother enabled. And then eventually passed away in 2013 at the age of 55.
What he missed was the birth of his granddaughter (and currently only grandchild), his first child that was given up for adoption finding us, literally all of his children turning 18. All of our graduations. And none of us are gonna be walked down the aisle by him. He also missed brother’s swearing in ceremony for the marines.

10:20 My biodad was the same way. His health started tanking and he just didn't wanna face it until it was very nearly too late. Ended up in the ICU for months and I'll swear up and down for the rest of my life that he had the worst heart readings of anyone who didn't leave that ward in a bag while he was in there. I visited a lot and would watch the monitors while waiting if they were in with him. Given a second lease on life, he wouldn't do the rehab because it hurt and constantly got himself into trouble because he was used to being strong but was as weak as a sickly kitten. Excused his physical inability to go into his own basement by telling his friends that I forbade him from going in there and no matter what I'd say trashed me all over to them for other things as well. And he could never comprehend why they were always telling him to kick me out. BD- "But I'll die without your help!" M- "Yep, so stop trashing me to them and be honest that you're just not doing too hot."
Lived four years in constant fear of elder abuse charges because the man was too embarrassed about his own infirmity (and my refusal to bow to his whims when they ran counter to his or my health needs. I'm also disabled so I often just can't go out at a moment's notice) to be honest with his friends.

A couple of months ago I was in the hospital and my roommate decided to fire up a cigarette. She was on the hospital oxygen. I had to laugh at the near death experience. The person had come from the ER, lost her dentures & a few other things before she made it upstairs. Yet she’d managed to hang onto her cigarettes & lighter. 🤯😳🤦‍♀️

I was told my grandfather would light up a cigarette while sitting in his recliner on oxygen at home. He was in his 50s i believe, this was 87/88. He passed away in 88, I was born in 89.
