I’m too old to have been interested in High School Musical when it came out (or after), but I knew it was her immediately once they referenced her father passing before the big moment in her career.
The goldfish custom fits her ver much, it's flowy, vibrant, and elegant.
I thought it was a cool full circle moment in the first song. For people who don’t know, Olivia Rodrigo, the original singer of the song, played a Gabriella type character in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. So, it’s cool that Vanessa is singing a song from her successor of her character. 🎉
This was a perfect song choice! I started to recognize Vanessa’s voice towards the chorus and then I was like “there is Gabriella! I hear Vanessa’s tone now!”

She never really lost "it". When she disappeared on tv after her peak post HS Musical days, she had some formal training and actual experience on Broadway. If anything, she was gaining some experience as an actual pro in the musical department.

It’s HEAVILY autotuned. All of the voices are to some degree. I dunno why they did that to her voice. It’s ear-piercingly bad autotune.

@@melindamercier6811 Vanessa’s been singing for a long time, so I wouldn’t say “heavily edited” so confidently. I could hear some parts of the songs that weren’t completely perfect, so it wasn’t all auto tuned actually. Overall she did pretty good, and we know she can already sing so I wouldn’t doubt if that was all her natural voice so quickly.

How much her voice has matured is beautiful, I can still hear the Vanessa I grew up with, but there so much more resonance now and its breath-taking! You can tell she brought her Broadway xp with her to this and it was phenomenal!!
I love this show! All of the great teen vocalists of yesteryear come back incognito to show they still got it and show that they aren’t just a product of the machine but real talented. Leanne Rimes, Hanson, and now Vanessa. Look out world! They still have it!

Being an only child is hard and honestly I would have had more children because my first one turned out so wonderfully but sadly it wasn't in the cards and my little one grew up by herself. Having you, and other dynamic young women that I could allow into her lives through shows that not only entertained but also enlightened, inspired, and encourage young people to go for their dreams, and navigate their own lives is so important.
