The Masked Singer would be a fun concept if they got people on it whose voice anyone would recognize in a million years instead of secondary characters from Real Housewives spin-offs who don't even have their own Wikipedia pages.
@@jeffreyberman8426 Considering I live in the UK, the last 2 seasons of the USA version of the show I have got 4 people right just from 1 song. They would have to be fairly well known for me to know who they were.

I love that you pointed out the overuse of autotune. I watch this show religiously and that’s something I point out a lot to my husband because it drives me nuts. Especially when it messes with the performance of a really talented singer. And it sometimes covers up their natural quirks that makes their voices recognizable (which I wonder if that’s why they use it so heavily.)
I didn't even know live autotune was a thing until one of Joel's other videos
Hubby often guesses "Sounds like so and so if they were trying to disguise their voice" and I wonder if he's commenting on the autotune without realizing that's why the voice sounds "disguised".
They definitely use autotone on this show to disguise voices of actual singers, they'd be way too easy to guess otherwise.
In my country's version of this show there was a singer with super distinguishable voice but his voice wasn't recognizable at all before his last performance where he sang with his "normal voice".
It's a shame because it takes away from the performances but I also get why they need to use it.
No actually.... It messes some of there voices up so much sometimes, I was listening to Poodle Moth and the auto tune was so distracting, it disappoints me sometimes.

Kids and I were listening to the Wicked soundtrack yesterday, and my seven year old son exclaims “that’s Elsa!” We’re not much into Frozen, but apparently he heard enough! He was educated about Idina Menzel.
That fact that he forgot that she originally sang the song 😭

Something funny about Lele Pons is that she also participated in the Mexican version of The Masked Singer and was eliminated after singing a Shakira song. Even funnier, when she was on Dancing With The Stars she was also eliminated after dancing to a Shakira song.

Chris from NSYNC probably didn't sing his best because it would have been too easy to recognize him. Cause he sounded so good when NSYNC sang at one of jt's free concert and people have said he sounds very good on the pop 200 tour so he either didn't try his hardest or was having a bad day
Also I don't know if that song was in his key. He usually sings much higher.

At least in the US version, in the Korean version they got guys like Ryan Reynolds BTS and Blackpink
@@edschelchang6123 Their format is very different though, they don't have seasons, they just have shows almost every week all year where 8 people compete in only two episodes where a winner is crowned in the 2nd ep, then 8 new people comes in to compete. in a year they have 50 episodes, that's 200 celebrities a year so I doubt most are huge a-listers.
Also pretty sure Ryan Reynolds was just a special guest performance like Demi Lovato did in the US, didn't actually compete.
I don't even watch the show but anyone who is a fan of PTX knew right away it was them

They're one of the few artists I guessed right away. The only other one I can think of at the top of my head was Wayne Brady in S2. I hate myself for missing the season that Leanne Rhymes won. I watched her performance as the Sun and would have gotten here instantly.

Starting in Season 8 of the US show they started doing Themed Nights. A lot of them are franchise specific and when they are they get some of the charcters from that show/franchise to show up for the episode.
Roomy, you are missing the fact that you get little factoids as you watch the Masked Singer that are hints to help you figure out who it is. It’s not a pure shot in the dark like you’re doing here.
Honestly wish there were more clips from non-US Masked singers. Like Rhino, Eiffel Tower and Piranha from Masked Singer UK.

I guessed Macy Gray. I listened to "I Try" so many times that I recognised her voice immediately
I got her pretty quickly too. It was between her and Tina Turner, but I think Macy's voice is a bit 'softer' if it makes sense while Tina has more 'grit'.

Sometimes singers trying to sound worse than they actually are to throw off the people trying to guess who they are. Further in the show they sing better and better
I would love to see you do this with the Swedish Masked Singer at some point too. Could be fun to see how many Swedish celebrity voices you'd recognize

Man, I never realized how big of a Darren Hayes fanatic I am. I mean, I own all his solo and SG stuff, but the second I heard him sing I was like "that can't be Darren Hayes, right...?" and there he was.
Knew it was Demi Lovato the moment she started singing.
I remember wanting to kick myself for not getting it because I kept saying, "I know that voice!"
I got Shatner because I used to have a friend who'd listen to his spoken word music, and that style is just so unmistakably him.
William Shatner and Kevin Hart were the only two I guessed correctly! But you're right, Shatner's line delivery gave him away instantly.

Weeirrd I JUST looked up what Bishop Briggs is up to these days (i was obsessed with her song River) yesterday, and saw her whole run on the masked singer. Not counting her, I got 3 right: Shaggy, Macy Gray, and Darren Hayes (I went through a whole Savage Garden/Australia phase 😅)! I was soo sure Demi Lovato was Kelly Clarkson.
You should try and guess some more from the English version lmao, especially piranha from season 5 I think
absolutely yes, sausage from season 2 and knitting from season 4 (who went out far too early although I might be being biased as a big Steps fan) would be great as well

Nick Cave!!! One of my favourite artists. Like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen his poetry and music are exquisite, but his voice isn't perfect. And it doesn't matter.

I got pentatonix, macy gray and William Shatner, and Darren Hayes voice is so recognisable, I followed his season, but knew him straight away from first song.
I have missed these kinds of videos. Petition for Joel to do the masked singer 😂
I would recommend to watch some performances of Belgium's Masked singer (broadcasted by vtm). The costumes are very detailed. And all performers need to sing live: no pre recording. They all get singing and dance lessons months before their performances, so this makes it more interesting to see what vocal training can do. :)
I think Joel could guess the identity of 'Edelhert' (season 2, in English: Reindeer). The rest are mainly Eurovision/Flanders famous people.

The best voice I've heard from one of these Masked Singer shows that isn't distinctive enough to be able to tell who it is I would say is the winner of the most recent UK series aired in beginning of 2024.

They do backup sing for many groups and have been on Broadway. Pretty good for The Brady Bunch boys. William Shatner was Captain Kirk on Star Treck!
OMG okay I never seen any other Country's version, but I got Savage Garden omg!! I LOVE that group and that singer sounded just like the lead singer too!
Just to give you a head's up, Roomie, O-Town was a boy band from the 2000s, here's the big BUTT though, it was founded using a Reality TV show. While they did have a few hits, their biggest being "All or Nothing" (it even overshadowed Backstreet Boys and N'Sync), they didn't last long in the decade because there were so many boy bands in the early 2000s.
Idina menzel would *never* sing defying gravity like that, considering that's basically her song! D:

Macy Grey did Masked Singer Australia, and I had her pegged on the first note her voice is super unique. And Darren Hayes I also had dead to rights the moment he went into his falsetto. Darren's version of Unholy he sang on the show was amazing.
I was surprised about Ashley and Chris since they are incredible singers in their own right. It's all about the song choice.
Shatner has such distinctive delivery if you're used to it, so got his pretty quickly. Also got Dick Van Dyke, song choice sounded older, and he's got that Jaw which gives him a distinctive voice.
The Dick Van Dyke one I guessed Ed Asner. Haha!
You need to get to know Bishop Briggs. She’s amazing.
Idina Menzel is the original singer of the song defying gravity, and I think there is a rule you can't sing your own song on the show, so it would not have been her.
The ONLY person I recognized pretty quickly was Bishop Briggs, she has such distinct qualities to her voice once you know her. Roomie ya better get checkin in on her amazing music. She IS powerful, as you pointed out, to say the least!

I loved the masked singer! I’m from Australia so I already knew Darren Hayes, I grew up in my teens with Savage Garden so it was very obvious to us Australians.
I guessed Lele Pons and Mach Gray but had no idea about the others

I got a lot of them but we don't really get a lot of music from elsewhere in the world unless we look for it lol. Also the show makes it easier to guess because they give clues- but I only watched the first two seasons.

I think in the boy band world it's more important that the singers blend well with the other voices, so I sometimes think some of the members are picked for that reason not because they are the best solo vocalists. Hence why Justin and JC took leads in Nsync and I believe Ashley wasn't one of the main leads in O-town..I think it was Jacob and Dan.
