👋 Background info on myself: I am a prior Marine infantryman currently serving in the Army. I've been through specialized Close Quarter Battle training, security guard training, subterranean warfare course, urban surveillance training, foreign weapons training, helicopter insert/extract master, as well as numerous training with other militaries and their equipment.

The guy who almost got hit by that mortar round was incredibly lucky that the soil was so soft. The munition detonated mostly underground, which absorbed much of the explosive force and likely trapped the shrapnel. If the ground had been hard, like in winter or in a city, he probably wouldn't have survived.
Me and Surfer come from the same international university in Lithuania. He was just 18 when he signed his contract. He is a real beast in the field.

@@lightningleaf23 I agree that it's not fair, it doesn't seem right, but I'm not sure if the alternative is better. Do you really think it works out well fighting a war with soldiers who are forced to be (and often die) there? I feel at least a little bad talking about it like this because technically all of us should be volunteering and we're just sitting here, just like he said.
@@Rhakete many in ww2 didn’t want to fight but proved themselves the problem is now it’s easier to cross borders and escape. Rich Ukrainians with enough cash to live without working driving around in Audi Q7s in Poland whilst men die is unpalatable

I remember those guys i think he got shot in the foot while laying down on the ground which means whatever hit him probably went literal milimeters away from his head. Good thing somebody allready confirmed he made it and is even back in the fight

Hi Theo, I have two documentaries to recommend. Not necessarily for reaction but very good documentaries. First one is "Darwin's War | Inside the secret bunker of Ukraine's ace FPV drone pilot", on the channel Scripps News. Second one is "Danish Ukraine Fighters", on the channel Danish Defence Documentaries. Both with pretty good English subtitles.
For the military guys, how do you detect where incoming mortars are coming from? Is there some sort of device that can pinpoint things? I know radar can do things to pinpoint with high accuracy artillery fire, with mortars is it the same idea, is there something handheld? Or is it just a "its coming from this direction and we know they can fire up to this distance, so its between there and here."
Even then though, is it that easy to determine which direction some of those are coming from? Sorry, 30 questions in one. Would love someone with some more knowledge than me to help please!
you can hear the gun firing in the distance before the shells hit the ground especially if it's bigger like towed artillery or spg. catching the sound of the tube is usually all you really got. these guys know where the front generally is though so i'm sure they can narrow it down too.
There are such devices as AN/TPQ-36. Also artillery reconnaissance troops use acoustic and seismic detection methods

I come from Poland. The message from the soldier is very accurate. But it is even worse, they do not work and are on social benefits, which allows them to go to bars and discos. I understand that they don't want to fight, they can't fight, they don't want to die, etc., but their army also needs rear support. There they could help their country and army. It is sick.

В мене знайомий їздив в Росію на заробітки, це було приблизно до 2020 року. Через пару неділь, в чому був одягнутий в тому і утік. В Росії не доробивши до місяця, залишив сумку одягу і 6000 грн, якщо перевести на грн. Більше не мріяв, але не все розповів. Його мати сказала що був дуже зляканий і пару ночей після приїзду не спав, кошмари снились.
Добавлю що приїхав в одязі, який купив на аванс російськими. Хвалився що куртку купив за 2000 грн, якщо перевести на грн.Нагадаю що приїхав без копійки грошей, бо тікав вночі, чому не розповів.
