science (or study in general) tends to make this happen. You keep moving up the ranks until you end up in a group where everyone is interested in the subject and there are some who are better than you, way better. Maybe you were the hardest in high school but at college, or graduate school, you become an average fish in the pond.
He really is the whole package.

i am really glad that they showed this in the show. Because it makes so much sense. As smart as sheldon in, he was been in such a small corner of the world and guiding his own studies so he won't be the smartest in the room and that's so good for him.
He was still the smartest, just needed some catch up on some knowledge.
Not only did she swamp him intellectually, she also employed violence.
She is on her way to becoming either a Starfleet Admiral or a Borg Queen.

This seems like an access to resources problem rather than a Sheldon doesn't try hard problem. And those universities were probably an hour away from where that mostly adult students were born.
Indeed, a 9/10 in intellect kid living in a working class area in a small town with no good schools will be put to shame by the 7/10 kid that grew up to wealthy tiger parents in the best schools.

I don’t think it’s so much the country but the social class. He grew up in a working class free spirited home in Texas with no money for extra study / schooling. If he grew up under wealthy, strict tiger parent he would be a monster.

I went through the same situation and it was a very significant learning situation for me that helped me in business for the next three decades. I mistakenly signed up for "Business" science lab instead of "Science" science lab. And I was arrogant and condescending to my lab mates and they were naturally increasingly angry at me. My grade depended on them too.
I found out I was not in the right lab (and couldn't drop) after three weeks. I went and *apologized* to them for being condescending and told them I didn't know they were not science majors and that my behavior was terrible in any case. They forgave me, the tension went away instantly, and we all had a fun semester together. I always listened to their input, contributed mine, and made a conscious effort to avoid condescension but also help share my greater knowledge to help them understand the material.
This came into play *multiple* times in business. Apologizing soothed the waters of conflicts many times (and at least one time saved my job when I had irritated the daughter of a senior executive because she didn't know how to do her job due to rapid promotions (she was reasonably smart but hadn't come up to speed yet) (and yes, everyone knew it was nepotism.. but you can fight it or you can go along to get along)).

Robert Picardo is great as the professor, but I don't get why American directors/writers feel the need to paint a caricature of Germans. That guy is an accomplished physicist, with contacts all around the world, teaching an international class at a very renowned university. He might have a German accent, but he would very likely be speaking perfect english. And he would very likely not say "und" when he means "and". I'd be willing to concede that he may pronounce more difficult words slightly differently, however, especially the terms used in his profession would be accurately translated and used, as communication within that field with his international colleagues would be regular, and held in english.
So if you want to portray that accurately, get a German actor and let him do his thing. It's very likely that a German-speaking actor that's active in hollywood productions/internationally speaks english as good and with a comparable accent as a renowned physicist.
Then you never been in Germany and talk with locals, especially with the ones on high positions. I would even argue it even tune down in show😂. I agree that they are fully capable of speaking with proper pronunciation and vocabulary. But where is national ego on stake logic is not working. And Germans are not unique in this, dutch and french are exactly the same.
I am in Germany, right now, living my life, because I am a German citizen.
I stand by what I said: German accents are played up strongly by hollywood. If you want an accurate German Accent, look at Christoph Waltz, Anrold Schwarzenegger or Andreas Herzog for example. Those actors are active internationally and their accent is often barely noticable unless they're playing Germans, at least compared to the abomination that is the video we're commenting on. They sound a bit clunky sometimes (especially Schwarzenegger in his Terminator-performances), but that's all.

Außerdem habe ich noch ein Beispiel von meinem guten Freund, der den größten Teil seines Lebens in anderen Ländern studiert hat, aber immer noch mit dem exquisitesten bayerischen Akzent spricht, den es je gab.
His reasoning doesnt make sense to me. Are u a dog or are u good at playing the piano. If sheldon was a student in one of the highest universities yet wasnt good at studying there then he would never have gotten there.
I think it's more that the method of studying was a shock to the system.
I think a lot of Americans get a bit of a educational culture shock when they realise how hard it is here.
I think they admitted Sheldon partly as a favour to Sturgis but also because whilst Sheldon probably didn't have the most outstanding CV in terms of extracurricular, he did have the correct grades that indicate he's able to handle the course.
Who knows maybe in European they consider the highest grades in America to be just good enough to be passing?
Besides, this is a grad school programme. It's meant to be there to help you learn. It's not like he's there as an expert.
I will say the professor is being a bit elitist. All universities have to have the proper credentials to teach a course and would be considered legit and they wouldn't look down on someone who didn't attend a prestigous university.
Then again this is the 90s... maybe universities were more elitist then.

This kind of people bring best out of you, if you have potential. My favourite teachers were like this and that significantly helped me during my studies.
