Some corrections - * It has Direct shift CVT transmission. Not a 7 speed automatic.
* Interior door trim made to look like diamonds. Not a carbon fiber effect.
I'm using a CHR for about two years. I have some good and bad experience with it.
Pros
- That 1.2 l turbo engine has very good torque band. So it feels very powerful in every RPM.
- Power delivery is excellent ( One of the best main stream Toyota)
- Handling is very good for a sub compact crossover. Very stable in corners.
- It has new gearbox called Direct shift CVT . So it has real first gear like traditional auto gearbox and then shift to the actual CVT . Upside of that is it doesn't feels like a rubber band like a normal CVT when launching the car.
- Gearbox is programmed to feel like traditional gearbox without holding the engine in same rpm like normal boring CVT when accelerating.
- Front seats are very supportive and hug the body in corners very well.
- Dashboard design is very beautiful and interior quality is good enough for the price.
- Suspension is little bit stiffer. ( comfort wise Premio is more comfortable than this in low speeds. But in highway speeds this is more comfortable than Premio. In curvy roads this destroys the Premio in handling.)
Cons
- Rear passengers feel very dark because of small windows.( If you are taller than 5 9" it is not gonna be a big problem)
- Rear door trim feels cheap and armrest is not padded. Does not feel premium like in front.
- Audio quality is not good for rear passengers ( Only for cars without premium audio system)(Actually most of jdm models)
- In low speeds sometimes gearbox feels jerky.
Fuel consumption
9 - 12 kmpl in urban areas. 16+ kmpl in long trips. If you drive conservatively it can easily achieve 19/20 kmpl in long trips.( I always achieve 18+ kmpl in long trips) ( **Your test car is still in break in period. Thats why you got only 16/17 kmpl )
But if you drive like a maniac fuel economy lowers drastically. It is the nature of small turbocharged engines. It can't do fuel economy and power at same time. As a example, if you drive conservatively CHR is more economical than a Premio. If you drive like a maniac Premio is more economical than a CHR.

Engine capacity should be corrected as 1200CC turbo. This engine comes with 4 cylinders and that why the engine is very smooth. Compare with 3 cylinder 1000 cc engine this vehicle is very smooth.

As usual good review MRJ. To understand that lane departure & drive assistance it took some time me to realized when i drive my bros vehicle...hahaa..!! it's a good feature.
Lane departure is good but not that worthy. It works with a specific speed lets say 40kmph. And sometimes sensors can not identify lines. Look closly in display it is shown if the the system can identify the road lines
