  • Belisarius was a renowned military commander of the Byzantine Empire under Emperor Justinian I. Born around 500 AD, he is considered one of history’s greatest military commanders and one of the most notable figures of the Byzantine Empire.
Belisarius played a pivotal role in the reconquest of large portions of the Mediterranean territory that had been part of the former Western Roman Empire. His military campaigns are legendary, including the Vandalic War where he conquered the Vandal Kingdom of North Africa in just nine months, and the Gothic War during which he reclaimed much of Italy for the Byzantine Empire.
One of his most significant military achievements was during the Gothic War, where, despite being significantly outnumbered, he managed to recapture the city of Rome and withstand a prolonged siege. His strategic prowess was also evident in battles against the Persians and the Huns, where he employed military deception and tactical brilliance to secure victories despite limited resources.
Belisarius’ life and career were marked by his loyalty to Emperor Justinian, his innovative military strategies, and his ability to achieve success with varying levels of resources. His legacy as a military genius has endured through the centuries, earning him the title of “The Last of the Romans” for his efforts to restore the glory of the Roman Empire....
