The first time I heard Niamh sing was a Dutch radio broadcast of a live set from her wonderful album Heart's Desire (2002). Shivers ran up and down my spine because I thought Sandy Denny had returned to life. Only after several minutes of listening -- entranced -- did I became aware of the Irish accent and realise that this was another angel.
She's not much of a looker but has possibly the most breathtakingly sublime and amazing and emotional and beautiful voices EVER!!! I couls listen to her for hours. Fitting that this song lasts for so long. Not long enough.
What a crass and unnecessary way to start a post about one of the finest traditional singers in Ireland William. Literally nobody cares about your personal opinion of Niamh Parsons' looks - an opinion with which lots of people would strongly disagree, and a lot more would think you not only have no right to post it publicly, but that in posting it you have done something as rude and unkind as it is inappropriate and untrue. Have a think about it and maybe apologise, or at the very least refrain from being such a twat when you post next time.
My god this is still great.
Ms. Parsons and Gerry O'Beirne - a dream team if ever there was one. Thanks to both, and oldflat for posting.
For St Patrick's Day and my angel bride who is an angel over 5 years now. Miss our Celtic music nights.
My absolute favorite. My mother used to sing this to me.
One of Niamh's best. Great setdancer too, not forgetting Gerry O'Beirnes subtle guitar accompaniment.
Niamh Parsons and Dolores Keane are my all time favourite traditional singers from Ireland. From England it would be June Tabor and Sandy Denny.

I love that she's an alto, and that she didn't rush it.

Such a gem of a video - Niamh was great even many years ago.

Recorded in 1989, I believe...
oldflat thanks for the info.
Is this an Irish song? If so how come it references Erskine town at the end? Isn't Erskine in Scotland
Enniskillen town. It’s the one thing that bothers me about the lyrics. Why introduce a place name at the very end?
@@roxken1 Thanks for the clarification!
How many years ago was this!?

Hey William, what do YOU look like?

Well I saw her last year and she was gorgeous 😀
So, while we’re bluntly giving our opinions here, I personally think she is beautiful.
