- Hello friends!!!
Firstly, I hope everyone is doing well! I have had a busy week, but things have finally calmed down a bit.
Onto business... So, this abstract realism tiger is a mixed media collage method that I really enjoy. I thought I would share an in-depth video about the techniques I use to get a variety of abstract effects.
By the way... This painting has no oil layer on top. I will probably galze with oils at some point, but it really doesn't need much.
I hope you all enjoyed the video and got some useful information out of it. Thank you so much for your support, questions, and lovely comments! Please don't hesitate to ask questions if I didn't explain something. I will respond! Love to all of you!

Love your art Lydia❤
I'm an artist as well. But didn't start working in mixed media until after college because it was never taught in school. And I took art classes ha. I didn't know abstract realism is a thing. And I think this is the exact style I've been looking for my whole life! I love it!!
That's a really nice compliment! I felt the same about certain artists on CZcams over time and now Lydia is a true inspiration to me.
Thanks for sharing how to layer for abstract background!😊 love your work!
Just found you...This is great! Thanks for sharing. I'm so about process.
Lidia your art is absolutely amazing and you are very talented. Could not find anyone who would encourage and teach me shift from realism to something more contemporary until i run into your channel - thank you so much!
Thank you Liana!!!❤😊

I could get lost in this piece. Hours later someone would have to come into the room and tell me to shut my mouth and blink. Yummy! And your music is dope.

Wow, so much going on with this painting! It’s kind of like looking into someone’s mind… Maybe yours… And seeing all the layers, thoughts, potential, you name it! I love the look on the tiger’s face! He’s taking it all in, but he’s guarded! Great video, great painting!😀

This is simply amazing. Holy smokes, all those layers, colors, & mediums! I'm a big fan of abstract painting, & your style is mind blowing because it's just so cool & well executed. And it seems to flow from your head to your hands effortlessly. Phenomenal!
Thank you Deano! I try to let things flow as much as possible, but sometimes my left brain gets in the way. When I start analyzing and critiquing what I'm doing, I know it's time for a break.☺
Love your work and will catch your previous videos. New subscriber here via Michelle Galley.

Amazing! I think you'd love the project/book "Disrupted Realism" by JOhn Seed and the work of Zoey Frank and Alyssa Monks!
I will check them out! Thank you!❤
Stunning!! As always you have nailed it❣️I might have mentioned that I love predators 😁, my daughter got me a sign "crazy cat lady"... Love the colours, textured layering and atmosphere with the majestic tiger🙌🏻. I know it takes time to make these videos but I really enjoy them, very inspirational and gets the juices flowing 💖🌹
Thank you Catherine!!! I love the big cats! Tigers are definitely my favorites. I am unfortunately allergic to the smaller version of felines. 😻💖
You makes it so easy, but my anxiety kicks in when I’m by the canvas 😂
Some days are easier than others. I have rough days where I have to step away.😁
i never would have thought to wet the canvas with water under the spray paint!
Right??? It works really well, but only with water based spray paint. 😁
I love the idea of Abstract Realism and think your work is pretty awesome. I appreciate the techniques described. Now, how do I explain this style to my husband? He asks: Why the musical notes? Why the numbers? I explained they were design elements and sometimes had a symbolic meaning. Maybe you can explain that part better, LOL.
Hi Diane, thank you! A lot of the imagery, numbers and musical notes have personal meaning to me. I have been a musician (piano) for over 30 years. The numbers can represent different things. In the Tiger painting 3 6 & 5 are in different places on the canvas but represent the cycle of 1 year. 3 2 1 is a countdown of sorts. Hope that helps!❤☺
@@lydiabroderick867 Yes! Thank you. I figured the 3 2 1 was a countdown. I love piano and have played it myself mostly by ear for many years. 👍 Thanks for your reply ☺️
Fantastic work, do you unwrap the new canvas and paint straight on it or do u prep by gesso first?
I do prep canvases most of the time with gesso or modeling paste then gesso depending on what I plan to paint. 😊
@@lydiabroderick867 thank you for the reply, once again brilliant work and thanks for sharing 👍👍
Did you use a stencil for the tiger? Love your work
Thank you! No, it's a drawing from a royalty free photo I found on unsplash.com You can find it if you search for "Tiger".❤
Love your style. Do you have a web site where you sell your paintings or prints. I mainly do portraits but want to add interest in my background. Thank you.
Thank you Sandy! My website is currently under construction. Tech stuff isn't my strength so it takes me longer to do website things.😳☺
Lydia, do you happen to knwo the maker of the musical notes stencil youre using? Its cool.
Hi Mary! There is a link in the description of the video for that stencil. 😊
Do youhave any tricks or tips for sketching the beautifull Tiger? 🎶❤️🎵
Hi Lis, that tiger was probably the hardest sketch I've ever done because the background was so busy. If I were to do it again, I would have blocked out the area in one color to make it easier to see the lines. ☺
What squeege do you use? I can't find one I like.
I just have a cheap plastic one that I picked up at the hardware store.😊
@@lydiabroderick867 that's what I have. I will try another one.
Did you trace the tiger?
Yes, I''m also curious about the main image, is it traced?
Love your work, however I don’t think I could purchase all those art supplies $$$$$$$$$$
