I got to meet Lindsay and I told her I just loved her natural acting style. She's so genuine.
This might be the earliest TV show addressing the emotions of our pets. From what I remember Max was suffering from PTSD due to the lab fire that hurt him. Jamie figures it out and helps him.

Some of the episodes featuring Max are so poignant they make me teary-eyed even today.
Exactly that. Some of these episodes hold up EXTREMELY well. The series ended on a high note as well.

So, what has always been hilarious to me about Max is that I was at an event of some kind in Calgary Alberta, back when the shows were on and there was a Q & A between the audience and someone or a panel from one of these shows. Some kid asked whoever was there from the show whether they were going to have a bionic dog. The question obviously came at them out of left field and the guy kind of laughed awkwardly and was like, "No". Everyone was laughing. And then, sometime later, here's Maximillian! It's almost like someone on the production team heard that kid's question and decided, that would be really interesting to a young demographic. Let's do it!
Poor"Max The Bionic Dog"..that poor sweet German Shepherd..is suffering from nightmares of being locked in a cage as a puppy in lab that was on fire.
Season 3 had its ups and downs, but its opener and its finale did have some GREAT moments.
Rudy and Oscar "forgot" to mention Kate Mason, the actual first bionic person. She was even then, the "test bed" for newer bionic. Only met her in Bionic Showdown.
I had the chance to meet Lee Majors when he was doing the Six million dollar man. I was on a Universal Tour and he walk up to our group and said we can all have something to eat from the Buffet tables and l did. He was down to earth not big headed.Great guy.
It's a good thing there wasn't a bionic cat. Probably bionic scratching furniture and bionic knocking things off shelves.
I read that they wanted to put the dog on Steve's show and Steve said no way, send it to Jamie, and that's how max got on her show.
I watched every one of both series(Bionic Man/Woman) loved Max when they brought him in. ❤

As a kid, I was obsessed with dogs, and Max was FANTASTIC!! Inspired me to love GSD, and finally get my own❤ They are incredible-so smart and curious. Definitely not a lap dog or for lazy people. They need stimulation and daily exercise/challenges/jobs, esp the western working line. American shepherds are bred just for looks and low set hips/hock walkers Max looks to be a well bred western working line. I'm assuming he was trained by the amazing Frank Inn. Frank was famous for finding shelter dogs with natural abilities that he'd fine tune, so I'm not sure about Max's real life backstory

I saw a number of episodes on Nickelodeon (I think?) in the 90s sometime, maybe early 2000s. I didn't care for it because her patronizing bosses keep calling her things like "babe", as here, and then she shames them with her superior empathy skills. I preferred the Steve Austin show; it was simply dumb and fun. "Issues" came in with this show. Now Jamie's got animal testing to deal with.

The original Max in this episode was a dead ringer for the german shepherd I had at the time. I wanted to bring my shepherd there and have the two of them get married haha. Hey I was 8 at the time, don't judge me. 🤣 I remember going to Universal Studios and going to the set of this episode, and seeing Lindsay interacting with the crew and "Max." They were doing some filming work and Max's legs were all bandaged, but apparently those images/film shots were never used.

I'd never watched this storyline and I just assumed it was a case of "jump the shark" for the show. But this was a nice storyline and the actors really sold it well.

Yes exactly! The show probably was filmed on film, which basically can be transfered to 4k. And probably the main film would be considered to be actually 16k source. Yes much higher resolution than most tv series filmed digitally now

Why is Max falling apart? Because Oscar just said he was made Bionic 8 years ago, so he has to be at least 9, and since German Shepherds live 7 to 10 years average, the math ain't hard.

FUN FACT: They Bionic Dog story was supposed to be featured on Six Million Dollar Man, however, Lee Majors wasn't interested in that idea.
And so it became episodes for Bionic Woman, instead.

I think they did the right thing. Jamie had been through an enormously traumatic experience. Her body nearly rejected the bionics. Just the feedback from her ear almost drove her crazy. Also... there's this thing called compartmentalization. Max was on a need to know basis, and Jamie didn't need to know during her recovery.

Jamie had already majorly been though the wringer with her bionics and knowing about Max too soon would have been too much for her to deal with if he showed even more serious problems that she could encounter. Things for Jamie had settled down a bit as she was now better accustomed to her bionics and she was at a better, stronger place in her life so her learning about Max was fine by that point. It turned out to be beneficial to both of them. Jamie got a bionic companion who could not only keep up with her but actually assist her when needed. Max got a sympathetic, protective caregiver who would understand him and ultimately free him from the lab so he could get over his issues to thrive.

Roku has all 3 seasons of the Bionic Woman peacok, which has all five seasons of the six million dollar man.
I think that they saw the bionic dog as a potential spin-off show. Don't do this with other shows. You can even trace the idea for back as a 90s. To get an idea for a pilot for a show.

The people that created the 'bionic' shows went too far. When they tried to add the 'bionic boy', that is when I gave up on these shows and they were cancelled. I could only take so much of Steve Austin taking on 'Bigfoot'!
