It is three years since a plague either killed everyone on earth or turned them into zombies. Dr. Robert Morgan is the sole survivor and lives a perilous existence where at night the zombies attack his house and during the day he seeks out zombies and kills them. What is great about this movie is showing him with his family and friends, and his work. It gives a better understanding of what happened.

Absolute LEGEND! I suggest you three of his movies in which he is outstanding: the two Dr. Phibes movies and, above all, Theatre of blood (or Blood theatre, i can't remember).
And way before Thriller he did The Black Widow by Alice Cooper.
It's got that quirky sense of humor we all know and love.

I like the remake with Charlton Heston too, because he is another great actor, but the version with Vincent is much more creepy, well, and his voice is legendary.

This is the only film version of Richard Matheson's 'I am Legend' that gets why the protagonist is a 'legend'. Yeah, Vincent is a little hammy at times but its a good film and of the three made (using Matheson's novella as their initial template) this is the most true to the same. Also clear is the influence this surely had on George A. Romero with his zombie movies. The novella has it all , so its ripe for a proper modern faithful remake which could be done ('28 Days Later' style) on an indie budget and would probably be all the better for it.

Good old school horror movie
Tingler kept me away from the Sunday matinee for quite awhile in the sixties. When I saw the scene in Tingler where it was released/escaped into the movie theater my feet went up on my seat and didn't come down until the movie ended then I made a B-line for the exit! The Fly and House on Haunted Hill was also the scariest for us kids in the fifties & sixties, then along came Night of The Living Dead!

Why didn't he live in a better more secure place. I mean out of the whole city, he lives in a run down house?
I was 12 when this came out.
Sure is different watching this today.
Idk about the guns but I'd like to think the sentimental value of the home he lived with his daughter and wife would weigh more on his mind than safety since he is the last man on earth

But overall, this is a solid movie.
@@LynxStarAutoThat was strange, but it's not a Nomad, just a run of the mill four door wagon. As stupid as the zombies seemed to be, he could have started sleeping in a house one block over and it would have taken them five years to figure it out.
One of the best coloured in film I've seen so far I think.. great movie . instant cult classic Vinnie price. Ya hooo haar ha ha he her cackle cackle. Like a Hammer house of horror pictures. I watched the Jacky Nicholson and Bella lugodi pic yesterday and that was insanely good. I've worked my way through Nicholson's filmography and missed that one. Really hit the spot. This one is looking to do the same. Same hammeresque vibe .

De mon point de vue, la première partie oui, effectivement on retrouve l'ambiance du film et Heston est dans un rôle qui lui va comme un gant.
Par contre la deuxième partie... Très moyen voire nanardesque tellement les mutants sont ridicules malgré la présence et le talent de Anthony Zerbe en leader qui ne parvient pas a relever le niveau.
Et la fin avec les enfants fout tout le film par terre tellement ça tombe dans la niaiserie religieuse.
This is the only adaption that explains why he is driven to keep going on, as it is in the book, to find his neighbor and kill him, so he can get a good night's sleep!

So this is what the inspiration for "The Omega Man" was. I was not aware of this film until now.
I saw IaL on tv years ago .more like I tried to watch it. the quality was very bad so, I gave up.
The restoration is very good. The coloration fades a little in & out but,adds to the atmosphere.
I did read the novella & this film is closer to the book than the remakes.
The scene where Morgan´s wife returns from the dead was creepy AF.
Price was a good actor.

Odd that his ‘56 Chevy turns into a ‘58 Ford when he was burning the bodies in the pit at 12:30 then switches between the two cars.
Also when he takes the first female zombie out of the back of his car she is feet first but when he put her in, he put her in head first. Also in one early scene, the garage is closed and then pans to him driving straight into the open garage. Love finding these little errors. Great movie

I discovered I'm a legend novel (1954) last summer and i read it in two days.the damn thing was someway mesmerizing and impressive.same this l Cold War "Panavision" little gem.. The Will Smith version is so childish and inmature in comparison..

Ho visto questo film la prima volta in vita mia, qualche mese fa su RAI 3, erano circa le tre di notte, film curioso pensai, metà girato a Roma metà negli States. La trama era quella di "Io sono leggenda", capii così che il film con Willy Smith era un remake, senza sapere la storia dietro ai film.
