    First off, congrats Nikki! You've progressed nicely and the joy you express in your voice and body language when you realize each step forward is awesome! Secondly, congrats Dan for being the husband and trainer you are for Nikki. I watched the video yesterday where you guys were talking about negative Nancy's making negative comments about your training style with her and your choice of first bike for her. I would say to tell those jack wagons to piss up rope and then ignore them. As a trainer myself (for truck drivers) I know that repetition is a solid and proven training method, both spoken word and physical action. Your training has worked for Nikki and the her skills, confidence & joy for riding are irrefutable proof of that! You keep being her trainer/husband and all will be well. Third, I'm glad you mentioned riding in and out of the shadows to Nikki as a hazard. That can really play games with your perception. I have found that looking through the shadows as best you can to be helpful. The thing you didn't mention was rocks on the roadway. You did mention debris which covers that, I suppose, but one doesn't picture rocks in the middle of your lane when thinking debris. I'm sure you know that rocks in the lane of travel are not an uncommon occurrence on Mt Lemon. I have come around some of those corners to be greeted by what I would call small boulders right on the edge of my lane!! Being surprised by that can be a little unsettling. Sorry for the long post. Just my $.02!! Keep up your good work (both of you)!

    I've seen plenty of deer up there when I ride early in the morning. Came around a corner by the ranger station one morning and there was a deer standing right in my lane. It's amazing how well they can climb up a very steep rock face!

  • @ladytao6370
    @ladytao6370 Před 4 lety +2

    Hi Nikki and Dan! I loved the video. I wish I would have had a mentor to be able to do what you're doing progressively like you are Nikki, enjoying the journey, however long it takes you. And of course, it takes the viewer to imagine themselves doing it with you, listening what Dan has to say about the curves, hazards, distance between riders, reminding visually that in winding roads you go single file and not staggered like in the straight ways, that way you have your scape routes available (you'll be surprised how many people do not remember that and continue staggered when they going on curvy roads)
    Thank you for all you are doing and I wish I could be riding with you up and down the mountain :-)

    Live in PA. Deer are everywhere. If you honk or flash your lights at deer they often freeze. Most of the time its best to just let off the throttle and brake if you have time and space to stop. Otherwise, swerve to whatever side their rear end is facing. If you try to swerve around their face, they will often run or jump directly into you. If you swerve around their back side, they will most often run away from you, giving you more space.

I love the terrain tat you're riding. the fact that you're riding with Nikki listening to the conversation on your intercom makes it more enjoyable. I wish mi wife would like to ride with me but she has her limitations and that's cool with me. I had a chance to ride to Sedona once. Maybe I can gout to Arizona again some time and see some of these scenic places that you're riding some day. Keep it up. I'm glad I found your blog. I look forward to you and Nikki riding more trails.

    Advice as a seasoned rider .... ALWAYS ALWAYS let the more innexperienced and slower driver lead .... even if it stresses them so the can concetrate more on the road , usually there is the tendency to fixate on the "mentor" "teacher" (name it how you want) instead of the road your wife progresses very very nice well done to both of you its very informative and entertaining watch you guys

Ride out on the 60 to the 79 south through Florence cause it’s more calm than the i10! Than turn right at Oracle junction and your not far from it. It’s like a 3 hr and 15 min trip one way. Nice job, Nikki, that looked like a fun ride. I noticed you guys keep your visors down the whole time. Nikki even commented on wishing she could feel the wind on her face. Why not open up the visor on a ride like this? I just recently switched to a full face helmet, thanks in part to DDFM videos, but I like to ride with my visor up if I'm under 50 MPH. I like to feel the wind, especially when it's warm outside. I always have sunglasses on so I feel like my eyes are protected.

    I've noticed that when you (Dan) move or lean your body toward an upcoming corner, you keep head perpendicular to the road surface (like a road racer), but Nikki doesn't.
    It is an important technique that keeps your brain from thinking that it's starting to fall.
    I'd have thought that your parking lot "slow turns" would have used the same technique ... but I haven't watched all of those yet.
    Anyway ... just curious why you're not both doing the same thing.
