All this, from Gerber?
Seems more like a *Curveball*
Bah Dum Tiss 🥁
Or a knuckle ball.
( sigh.. ) Fine I will buy one...
Right. Another hundo spent in steel.
Thanks for the review. Equally surprised to see something this well polished from Gerber. May actually pick this up...
The auto 06 is pretty solid from what i have seen.
I love my vintage folding sportsman 1. Only one I own.
That bloody big box makes it into next shipping category to send internationally so I can't buy one from BladeHQ or anywhere without paying 50USD for shipping! Really like the look of it and glad berbers having a win.
Berbers? Come on now Pete.. also dickhead survival when?
I'll buy one for ya and send it brother. as ling as you send me cash ill order and Redbox and ship. I appreciate what you do....its the least I can do.
Zombie resurrection post, but I couldn’t not respond… I’m a lefty and with my Spyderco Para3 I prefer it tip down. It’s perfect for opening, holding the blade and swinging the grip. I’m really happy and impressed with the designs Gerber is resurrecting itself with.
We carry Gerber because we use the knives as a tool. If we break them because we needed a pry tool or screw driver big deal. They are easy to sharpen on the fly. If you lose it your not out hundreds of dollars. Gerber also has a great warranty from my experience. I will be a lifetime customer.
Nice to see Gerber getting with the times. Great steel with ball bearing pivots and nice finish. No deep carry clip though. They could have went with a lower cost steel to bring the price down also.
I’ve always liked Gerber, hold an edge and takes one easy. Cheap enough to not worry over a bit of abuse.
I couldn't agree with you more. Im so happy to see Gerber coming out with some USA made knives. I really hope Gerber is turning over a new leaf. Maybe we will see more US made then foreign made in the future if they get good responses out of them. Good video 👍
Pretty cool! Closely resembles a Kershaw Dividend.
dividend much cheaper
My dividend with m390 was about thirty bucks cheaper.
Only In shape. But that’s where it ends. Dividend is trash as it comes in 420c unless you have the sprint run which I have from HOB’s which had them In s35vn which is damn good steel but I still think this knife is a better more premium knife even than my mine In s35vn
More like a mix between the dividend and misdirect.
I’ve had the kershaw dividend m390 for about 8 months now and love it. Put the deep carry clip on it too. Just ordered the zt 0357 to match 🙃 not to sure about the gerber fastball though....might have to handle one first.
Nice review! I picked up a Covert right after I watched your review. 😂
This is like a premium Kershaw skyline with the flipper, single sided liner, g10 scales, and sub 3oz weight. Might be my next knife right here.
I carry all my spyderco knives tip down and I have to say that it’s been growing in me a lot I wish a lot more knives had the option to carry tip down
I've had the same Gerber for about 15 years. Cost around 14 bucks. Still the same as out of the package after A LOT of use.
Looks like a dividend, and I love my dividend, I might just need this knife
I got one and love it and now my EDC mine was centered but sharpening was not that great so I used it a lot and resharpened it
I like tip down left side carry in really small knives but I’m not a southpaw. I usually carry a Large cold steel type primary and it’s nice to put a secondary small knife on the other side of the pocket. I do like the blade to face the seam in my pocket because I have had accidentally deployed blades in my pocket before. Only problem with it down is that there are very few with deep carry options in that direction.
Tip down all day, every day!! I have always preferred it that way. Feel free to judge but it just works better for me. I always like seeing 4 way clips nothing wrong with having options if you ask me!
That grind is a deal killer for me. It's so obvious when closed at the correct angle.
Hey Jeff! You should do a video on your top 10 most edc-ed blades since you’ve gotten into knives.
Buck sprint, s30v, burlap micarta scales, ball bearing flipper, USA made, $99, 3 inch blade and 3.2 oz. The fastball is on my list, mostly because I want a gerber in my collection and this is the first decent model of theirs I've seen, tho every review has complained about the grinds.
i Like my gerber edict. lockback, super hard to open one hand but its just sweet. light big and 154cm
Looks good knife !
Love my Fastball, seems like some changes are happening within Gerber!
You should do a review on the gerber evo. It's been my edc for a couple years and I love it. It also has aluminum handle scales with a single liner for the lock, as well as a flipper
TheDakrax that knife is a piece of garbage, there's your review
Looks like a nice knife ,I might get one for dress slacks , church stuff like that
Gerber didn't used to be crap, my dad had one of the original Gators and that thing was an absolute monster, and I still have their first multitool and it's still plenty usable. It's good to see them trying to make decent stuff again.
This might be the nicest Gerber knife in recent memory but does that mean it's great? Does that mean it's worth a hundred bucks? It seems like every review for it features a quality control issue. When I look at this knife, I'm instantly reminded of the Kershaw Dividend. While it is assisted, the Dividend seems to have better fit and finish. The Dividend is also available in S35VN or M390 for less than what this costs.
Nice video may have to try one
Mine is awesome! Gerber has been pushing to get back on the map for a while and this was the knife I knew would catch attention.
No longer ashamed of liking Gerber knives!! Lol!! I have tons of high end production knives, but i always had Gerber as a kid, so I've always kind of routed for them to do something good again.. I think they are on the right path! Come on crkt, follow suit!
Gerber is Finnish-owned. Fiskars is a scissors company. They make the Bear Grylls line of knives and gear, which is a British endorsement franchise.
@@bobmellon And by my very mediocre but expensive made in USA Gerber Centerdrive multitool, quality control is still a major issue. Some Chinese products are catching up to, and occasionally exceeding, US bladed products.
Great warranty and customer service--but out in field and on the job we need real quality in the product. Imagine a soldier on the job who's blade roles or snaps. Or multitool wire cutters shatter. Great customer service is of no use then and there. Gerber doesn't lack good ideas or design. Just good, solid manufacturing quality control.
Hey Jeff, you missed something very noticeable to me in this review!!!! At the 5:27 mark of this video when you're pointing the tip of the blade towards the camera to show us the blade centering of your Gerber Fastball, I can clearly see that the swedge of obviously noticeably way off on one side of the blade. From that angle it makes the blade look almost chisel ground.
I would like to see this next to the kershaw dividend.
Oo its look like kershaw leak with handle from kershaw link oO
Bought a Gerber folder; came dull. Tried to sharpen it, the edge of the blade was folding over like tinfoil as I was sharpening it. Like it was completely not heat treated. Sits in my first aid kit so I can cut open the plastic wrap on new bandaid boxes. Used it once to cut some 550 cord and instead of a nice cut it looked like I chewed through the cord with my teeth.
It's about time Gerber!
Really nice knife,
Very few Walker lock knives are of quality. It’s. Incredibly easy to manufacture. If you want quality you need a button/back lock.
I actually only but American jeans, a certain company has the best fit for me. They're about $150 But I find great sales and git a few used pairs for under $30 each.
Kershaw has been my EDC for years. I have Spyderco, Kbar, cold steel etc.. but my kershaws are my favorite to carry daily.
Motor City Barbecue i edc a
Kbar “mule”. That sumbitch is freakin Stout!! Ya hear me Son?? Lol
Awesome Rev men, I had a question I just got a new airlift knife and for EDC porpoises its awesome except it is super super hard to open the dent is tough as hell and it doesn't have a way to loosen it up but a flat Philips but it doesn't turn and the pocket clip hardware is like a combination of a hex and a Philips and there is no way to remove it
Still EDC a GERBER EZ-OUT in ATS-34 steel and yes tip down.
I got a credit at Gerber for returning another knife that died on me so I ordered one. My old Gerber was a big disappointment hopefully this one is rocking. It looks good.
hey Jeff, have you had problems with the continue mission leather tag? i just had to glue mine together because the ends frayed
Looks like a great knife as long as the aluminum scales don't have that chalkboard texture.
Gerber's USA stuff is definitely decent and huge upgrade over their Chinese-made crap (....Paraframe....).....lol
@Van Helsing I can.....they suck
@@TheScottyp1 Yeah, so can every other knife.
I Love Gerber. I have sent back my Gerber Dime back twice after they broke. They have replaced ed them a d stand behind there word
Far better to stand behind their product quality, than make up for flaws with cheery customer service. Both would be ideal. How about lowering the product failure rate, AND give great service?
Im a righty but carry my knife left side. Definitely prefer tip up but if i really like a knife and its tip down only ill still carry it.
TIP DOWN RIGHTHAND. GREW UP THAT WAY & NEVER HAD ONE ISSUE PLUS I DON'T PLAN ON GETTIN' TACTICAL WITH MY CARRY BLADE. CHEERS FROM UPSTATE SC
The Fatman same way just on the left
What is our opinion of adding this to an ankle mounted urban E&E kit?
Gerber made some really good Japanese produced knives about 30-40 years ago, like the Hunter III or Magnum or the International.
Japan is a quality knife making country. Long blade tradition. Made in Japan or Taiwan is much different than China. And now China makes some very decent edged products. But one never knows without either buying, or watching good reviews. Like this one.
Looks like they’re stepping up their game now 👍🏻
They've been stepping up their game for the past three years now.
Well they definitely haven’t been on my radar, nice to see this though.
@@jvf_t4r59 maybe you need to pay attention a little bit more buddy
Honest Dave thanks smartass, will keep that in mind 👍🏻
@@jvf_t4r59 No problem. Check out the sharkbelly from them
Do you ever trade knives? I have 2 that I want to trade, a ww2 bayonet and a 1960’s Gerber double edge fighting knife. I want to get a nice folder.
Legendary, lovem
where in Europe could i get that knife?
everywhere i looked is sold out or not available
Being in the UK, all I can find are either Gerber, Mora, or Victorinox... I have to say the gerber knives hold a terrible edge, but they're decent quality. Looking for a benchmade though!!
I like tip down more, bc I personaly can grab, open and use the knife faster when it is tip down in my pocket
this resembles the kershaw leek a lot. I like my leek too.
looks like gerber did a kershaw design. i dont do gerber anymore, every one has qc or tolerance issues.
*now i have to get one*
Alright where's the catch? 40 hrc? Lead based coating inside the liners?
hey I'm BURBS lol 😂
Nah, 65 hrc so its chippy.
@@ohiogarbageman9507 the blade is just a piece of glass painted silver
hey I'm BURBS lamo
People don't talk about gerber when they talk about spyderco, because spyderco hasn't compromised their quality or steel, like gerber did. USA made or not, gerber is extremely behind in the market - release a clever design 5 years after they're popular? Gerber needs to change it up - if they want to captivate the majority of the current EDC community. And one cool design, with aluminum handles isn't going to cut it. Nice video!
which website do you recommend to buy knife
I just got a 2015 Case 63087 ss Stockman, brand new, for $13.99 at my local ACE hardware. They had the new Chinese chrome vanadium price tag next to it. It was the last nos in the display case. I guess it had been displayed for 4 years & no one spotted it.
Please explain "Chinese Chrome Vanadium" price tag, thanks.
@@mayo470 made in China CV, $13.99
@@josephhaddakin7095 huh? Case is importing now??
@@mayo470 no. The store was filling the display case with import knives. My knife was the last one still there.
Just had a guy behind a counter telling me to try out a gerber. I still have to wait a while to see how it works, but I still only think of bear grylls every time I hear the name "gerber".
Gerber Hope's you will soon forget
Christian Bowen the last time Gerber made a BG product was in 2013... that’s been a while. They’ve moved on
I like the Fastball and the size looks perfect, but I need a lower cost option with a slightly more curved blade. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Interesting request. Look at civivis new release It has slight curve
I was excited till you said 99$. I like knives but never enough to put money into them. I try to keep them at 20-30 bucks and the Kershaw cryo has fit the bill and haven't seen a suitable replacement.
WCGwkf get yu a ganzo🔪🔪🇺🇸👊
Gerber mk2 was a great combat knife.
I was never a big fan of Gerber because they always refused to tell me what steel the knife was. I do not know if it works for my needs or how to maintain it if I have no idea what it is! Anyway they have started actually giving that information so good.
Umm, what is wrong with the grind on this knife? It is very uneven. One side is like half the depth of grind as the other. Is that just near the tip?
i got a multi tool from gerber back in december one of their OTF ones $75 and 15 minutes later the spring in the pliers broke and the knife was EXTREMELY dull i could take it and rub my fingers on the blade no problems returned in within the hour. i’m done with gerber for awhile once their name starts getting thrown around more and people swear by them like benchmade or spyderco then maybe i’ll look at them again
They probably will never be the quality of benchmade or spyderco so dont get your hopes up. Maybe 30 years ago they woulda been
I'm lefty and I prefer tip up right side carry
I liked what I saw coming from Gerber at shot show this year, but their QA is always still the issue. For the steel, the design, the action, and being USA made, it's definitely worth right under $100
mike g 100% agree
I got my first gerber knife. Its a bear grylls knife and I like it but the sheath sucks
It actually a good looking knife, an priced right.
I just bought a buck 112 in s30v American made with the best heat treating For 90$ or you can get the 110 for 100$. I don’t care if it’s tip up or down.
Cool knife, but I do prefer Gerber's old logo imo.
my blade was very convexed, i fixed that, like knife and safty closing, good knife for 100$ usa you can't beat, it is a washed blade i was given silver or gray but i like it less scratching hopefuly, but they got to get blade edge grinded better, why was mine so convexed , to much, love convex anyway so easily fixed with water stone
I actually prefer tip down because of the way I grab my knife it’s in a ready to use position
I like to carry thin pocket knives in a shirt pocket. With a flipper tab, tip down is very natural for how it gets drawn.
I would have considered ordering this knife, even for $100, if it had G10 scales.
My first locking knife was a Gerber
I like tip down on my Kershaw leek because it only shows alittle of the knife
I’ve always just walked on by Gerber, just thought is was cheap. However I’m interested in this, huh...
They had great knives years ago. It is too bad a company with great heritage won't step up to the plate, and take a chance with new, original designs, made from popular materials (aka titanium, carbon fiber, etc).
no battlebox this month?
The reason they are affordable is cause in the 80's and 90's all I could find for Gerber was full tang an boot knives! Wasn't till gun makers like Smith an Wesson, Colt an other started knives; then Gerber got into folder. 13 years ago an back to the end of the 90's when House of Blades popped up in Texas is when all these blade brands started! And yes I am tip down due to the laboring jobs I work on my back an crawling, climbing on roofs, in trees', etc. Tip down for me is safer grabbing my knives from all positions!!!! I would sooner buy that Gerber before a spyderco. The spydercos' have not ever passed my working test on the jobs and in the wild ( I broke 2 and gave 1 away before not paying their amount for spyderco any more ). And Eagle knives in the early 90's had the spider hole before spyderco ever came out. I love having a good memory. Good review and it's all just my personal opinion- eveveryone has a personal opinion and job for there own brand(s) of bladed tools. Not wanting to hurt any feelings. Just a long time fan of cutlery-n-tools.....!
Gerber freeman stag handle caper knife in s30v over here. Back then it was the least expensive knife in s30v shipped abroad. Pretty knife, not sharp but a classic for the knife closet.
This folder looks like kershaw and very comfy. Too bad about the metal handle, those ugly up too much imho.
This knife can now be customized on their website.
I like tip down. I don’t know why but I have a Cara Cara 2 that’s tip up and going back to my tenacious which is tip down it just feels right for me.
Powernation you can move the pocket clip on the Cara Cara 2.
Review the gerber ghoststrike
Gerber did a good job of making a Kershaw...
Logan2070 it looks almost completely different other than the wharncliffe blade (of which is not Kershaw patented) and aluminum handles... it’s more angular, has better materials that say the leek. And isn’t assisted. The best difference. Other than that designs just meld together after a while
Reminds me of the Schwarz Perpetua .
This does look like the Kershaw skyline.
My least favourite knife is my Sypderco Salt H2 steel. I can’t get it to stay sharp.
I like ZT and mass drop
Why not just get a Kershaw dividend in m390 for less?
true and better quality
The steal isn't as good as the s30v and it has a plastic housing. But most of my kershaws are like that and they're great.
mjam73
You know that M390 is significantly better than S30V and it is aluminum, right?
Duh Doy I’ve seen the heat treat on kershaw m390 is kind of hit and miss
I really like Gerber. specifially their m500-600 I think their called, multitools and the center drive multitool are my favorite. That said my favorite economical folder is the crkt hi jinx and its ball bearing pivot is almost like its assisted. It's really smooth, strong, has tight lockup and is so well balanced I can throw it. After listening to your review I'll have to pick up this knife not to mention the edge contour is probably my favorite blade design, atleast among my favorite. For my EDC/working knives I prefer the harder type stainless steels because I live in central SC and it more humid than a fat chicks twat.
do you still have your zippo collection?
I like it
I'm a lefty prefer right hand tip up
